Glamorous Cannes

Advantages: Gorgeous, Glamorus, nice weather, beautiful beach

...and fashionable Cannes at the other side of the sea. We were staying at Nice and went back there in the evening catching the return train. Cannes is full of hotels and holiday apartments. But most of them are rather expensive, thanks to its glamorous and fashionable reputation. However, there are plenty of equally beautiful places nearby along the Mediterranean coast where you can get relatively cheaper accommodation. It is highly possible to stay in Nice, Antibe or Canges sur Mer and visit Cannes in day trip. All these places are very well connected to Cannes by road and rail. Best HOTEL in Cannes - Carlton Intercontinental

Advantages: This is one amazing hotel with everything you want in one of the greatest cities of France
Disadvantages: pretty much non-affordable for normal folks

...In september 2000 I was invited to the presentation of OPEL´s new car called Corsa. I was surprised that they did this presentation not in germany, but in Cannes, France. Furthermore I was really happy to see which hotel OPEL booked for the 3 day stay of their exclusive customers: The world famous Carlton Intercontinental Hotel at Cannes... Famous, some of you might ask and I say yes, famous it is. Most of you know that european film festival every year at Cannes. That hotel there is that historic building in which all the major actors, directors and plenty of wannabe´s are staying. The building itself is under a historic building law in france and so to uphold business in there the owners have to spent lots of money quite frequently to rebuild the beautiful historic outside of the hotel. ...This summer I was lucky enough to spend a good bit of time touring the South Of France. It was a voyage of discovery and wonderment and I am going to share with you my experiences of Cannes. If you want historical facts about the place, or a list of hotels...you will not find it here.... but enjoy nonetheless. Funzo's Fantastical French Follying Adventures (the catchy name I gave my trip) had to take in Cannes. Driving along the south coast after a dissapointed day in the overcrowded, far too English resort of Nice, Cannes seemed an ideal box to tick and the 40ft Motorhome trundled laboriously along the picturesque if not scary coastal road that can take you from Monaco to Marseille with the sea never leaving your eyeline. The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. Cannes on a budget - yes, you can do it

Advantages: Glamorous, no mosquitos, cultural, beautiful, an experience
Disadvantages: Full of silly little poodles & their equally silly owners - can be expensive if you don't watch the prices

...Beleive it or not, it is possible to have a week in Cannes & spend no more than you would anywhere else in the Med! I was in Cannes years ago & did find it terribly expensive (but we were young, on the prowl & in search of nothing but drink & men... but not necessarily in that order). This time however, we were on a different mission - a secret trip to the Monaco Grand Prix - tickets were a surprise 30th birthday present for my loved one - and boy was he surprised! The GP is great but it was only a small reason why we chose Cannes. We had lovely accommodation - the Resideal Cannes right behind the Carlton & the Noga Hilton on the Croisette. Hotel International

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...
