Jolly Carlton Hotel - Amsterdam

Advantages: Friendly staff, modern decor, lots of handy facilities, great location
Disadvantages: Rooms are a bit on the small side and cramped

...A couple of weekends ago I went to Amsterdam with my boyfriend. We wanted to find a hotel which was close to the centre so it was easy to get around, but that wasn't too expensive (if we could help it!) I went on lastminute.com and I saw a deal for one of the 'secret hotels'. This means that you don't know which hotel you will be staying at, but that you will get it at a discounted price. It told us the rough location (around Rembrant Square), the room and hotel facilities and the star rating. You find out which hotel you are staying at as soon as you have made the booking. We thought it would be quite exciting to get one of the 'secret hotel' deals, it was in the right location for us and sounded like it had everything we needed so we went ahead and booked it for the price of £287 for three nights. The deal was also that we would get...

Advantages: grt location
Disadvantages: --

...**** Quality Hotel Pierre Arc de Triomphe Paris**** I stayed in this hotel the second time i visited this city. There are 25 rooms, all en-suite ,single, double and twin. **Location/Getting there** This hotel is located very near the arc de triomphe and down one of the streets is a shuttle bus service which will take you to the airports, both Charles De Gauile and Orily. It is also near a metro stop and a taxi rank. This is how long it will take you to get to te hotel from the following places From the Champs Elysées : 10 minutes walk From the Palais des Congres : 10 minutes walk From Opera : Direct access by the ligne number 3(2 minute walk). **Reception/staff** I didn't think that this looked very impressive. There was apparently a bar but this was an area with two seats and small work top.Unimpressed.Checking in was okay but...

Review of Quality Hotel Pierre - Arc de Triomphe, Paris

Apparently it's pronounced 'De Loy-yer'

Advantages: Nice quiet locale, cheap (relatively speaking) and cheerful.
Disadvantages: Dated decor and basic rooms

...On my recent trip to Amsterdam I was lucky enough to have the hotel and flights sorted out by one of my buddies - good man! He booked us in to The Hotel De Looier, which is a former diamond factory ( in the 19th century) in the antique district of Amsterdam, 5 minutes walk from the Leidseplein (one of the main bar/restaurant areas). CHECKING IN The checking in process was fairly quick and easy, although there only appears to me one member of staff in reception at any one time, so at busy times you could probably find yourself waiting a while to be seen to. With that in mind, I imagined that checking out would be a slow process but we only waited very briefly, probably because my friends took so long to get ready that we were quite probably the last guests in the building! The lady who checked us in spoke fluent English, as...

Oh La La debmercury stays in Hotel Bellevue Paris

Advantages: Excellent location and good value for money
Disadvantages: Not suitable for disabled people

...The Hotel The Bellevue hotel is a three star hotel and has 36 rooms, which are all nicely decorated in either burgundy or blue tones. It is a four storey building with lots of parisian style. The hotel is a small independantly run hotel which is in a fantastic location 19 Rue d' orsel, 7518 Paris which is at the foot of the Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre. I had pre-booked a taxi online when I booked this break. Taxi was from the Charles de Gaulle airport and when we arrived the Bellevue Hotel was lit up outside and looked very warm and welcoming. The hotel has a small reception desk which is open twenty four hours and the reception staff are very friendly and helpful. At the side of the reception desk there is a large rack with lots of tourist information leaflets on where to go and places of interest...

A great Paris hotel

Advantages: Perfect location, excellent access to Metro and sights.
Disadvantages: Bedroom doors bang loudly when they shut.

...The first time I ever visited Paris I stayed at this hotel. I just left it up to my boyfriend and his dad to choose the accommodation as I knew nothing about this city at the time, except that it had the Eiffel Tower! When we looked it up on the internet there were a few flattering photographs, and because it was so close to the Gare du Nord (where we arrive from the Eurostar) it seemed like the perfect little hotel. It's in a great location for a hotel that isn't too pricey, or too cheap. Location It's located in the heart of Paris, it's a lovely traditional looking building and is in the immediate neighbourhood of the amazing St Quention Market. This is a indoor market, it's hard to miss as it's a large metal stucture and is quite impressive and attractive. It's a good place to buy 'real' French food, although there is...

Rho Hotel Amsterdam

Advantages: Great location, good price
Disadvantages: None at the price!

...OK so there is another review, I know. Here's mine. The hotel is very conveniently located about a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam CS (central station), just off the SE corner of Dam Square. Just look up as you enter the square - you cannot miss the Rho sign. Our room was on the second floor and as a result somewhat noisy at night. (It was locals too, not tourists, making the noise!!) Our friends were on the top floor and had a much nicer and quieter room. Try to get top floor when you check in! The rooms were clean and light. Of reasonable size (our friends room was actually very large) and really quite comfortable. The staff were very friendly and of course (this being The Netherlands) English was spoken perfectly. The hotel is surprisingly large and is always busy especially at breakfast. The breakfast rooms are large...

The Organic Hotel? Hotel Gabriel- Paris

Advantages: Great rooms, great hotel!
Disadvantages: Expensive to eat in hotel

...I recently spent three nights in Paris and booked the hotel through the Euro star website along with my train ticket. In total the hotel cost me around £150 for the three nights for a double room. When I got there I asked if we could change to a twin room and we paid 45 Euros more to do this for the three nights, so the total I paid was around £195. I think this is a very reasonable price for a hotel in Paris, especially because this one was lovely. Firstly, it is located within the Marais area of Paris, which is very nearby the Picasso museum. It is a walk able distance down to the river and to the Louvre etc, however there is a metro station minutes away; Republic. From Republic you can catch the majority of the different metro lines, or you can catch it to a station which will allow you to connect to the line you need. The hotel...

Basic Accomodation on a Budget in Amsterdam Centre

Advantages: Excellent prices when booked online. Clean, basic accomodation, superb location!
Disadvantages: Very basic, long way up to 4th floor!

...I recently got back from a short break in Amsterdam, where I had a fantastic time exploring this vibrant and exciting city. I've already reviewed the superb airline I flew with (Jet2.com) - check them out, but that leaves the accommodation. I was recommended this hotel by a friend who said it was basic but clean and the location was superb. He advised me to book online with www.bookings.nl (which I intend to also review shortly) to get the best price. So I did, and sure enough, within minutes I was booked into the Hotel de Gerstekorrel for just 45 Euros a night for a single room WITH en-suite! There's gotta be some kind of catch I thought... well there is, slightly, you have to pay another 5% city tax on top of that but thats all. Got a friendly confirmation email shortly afterwards, which I printed and took with me. I arrived...

21st Amsterdam Hotel

Advantages: Mediocre location, cheap
Disadvantages: Could be cleaner, no towel!

...I went on holiday recently with a bunch of lads to celebrate our 21st Birthday....what we did in Amsterdam though for that is a different story xD However on browsing the internet we originally settled on a hotel which was said to be literally 1 minute walk away from the city centre. However due to some stairs being described as the 'Stairs of Death' We decided to upgrade to a 2* Hotel instead! On arrival in Amsterdam, we found a booth at the train station where you typed in the address of your hotel, and it located it for you and printed it along with tram lines and numbers to get, So we printed and thought with our luggage, oh that doesn't look far, we'll walk there. And truth be told, it was only what 20 minutes walk away from the centre. Maybe a bit more depending on your walking pace. But with the Luggage it took...
