...around The German train and underground system consisting of the S Bahn, U bahn etc is very efficient and cost effective with a day ticket for a family costing less than £10 and allowing unlimited usage of the train system. Trains run every few minutes to most locations and map are available at all stations and shops etc. It's a colour coded system that is very easy, clean and safe to use. Taxis are cheap and efficient in Hamburg although many taxi drivers don't speak English so grab a cab from your hotel where staff can direct the driver saving you a job! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anything else?? Tipping staff is not that common or excepted in Germany but is very appreciated by hotel and waiting staff: don't feel the need to go OTT however! Most Germans speak English very well but a few words of German are also very useful...

Relax at the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel

The hotel is well located and transfer time from the airport (Hamburg) is under 20 minutes or so with taxi fares also being under 20Euros (£13-£15). Just outside o f the hotel you will find a glittering array of upmarket shops and small boutiques and the hotel is located in a very quiet area and all of the rooms are exceptionally quiet. Yoho Ho(tel) - Where Santa stays in Hamburg?

Advantages: Something a bit different from your regular German city hotels

...Yoho is the abbreviation for the 'Youth Hotel' and it's located in Hamburg. I'll admit that when I was told to book it for a visit earlier this week, I did worry that it might be like a youth hostel. Perhaps before I checked out in the morning they would make me clean my room or wash the dishes. Fortunately neither was the case, and despite the strange name, I found a rather charming modern hotel located in a nice old historic building. The main criteria by which they justify the name is that they offer slightly lower prices for guests who are under 26. Sadly nothing I can benefit from any more. Brilliant for a weekend getaway to Hamburg

After looking at various hotels we decided to stay in the Best Western St Raphael. Location: The hotel is only a few minutes away from the main train station (and U-bahn stops - Hauptbahnhof Nord and Hauptbahnhof Sued) and also the bus station so if you fly into Luebeck then you're only a few minutes from your bus to or from the airport which is especially handy as the flights often arrive or depart early or late at night. I like cities where the airport is not that far removed from the city centre, so we were off to a flying start in Hamburg when less than half an hour after landing and ?20 lighter we found ourselves a our hotel. Hamburg has a whole bunch of hotels and guest houses but we only stayed at one, the Radisson, and it was ok. Expedia and Opodo have good choices if you're choosing to book online (which, when you think about it, really is the only way to do it).
