Hitlon Hotel, Venice, Molino Stucky
Advantages: Great hotel, great location?
Disadvantages: Perhaps too big!
...Last year in the Sunday supplements I read about the new Hilton Hotel that had just opened in Venice and they had comments on the wonderful views and the roof terrace.
As we had booked to visit Venice in March of this year, and had been several times before this was an opportunity to see another view of Venice from a different area.
I had read that it is a large hotel and thinking about Venice and the size it must be out of the main Venice tourist area, we had not seen any building work on that scale the year before.
The Hilton hotel is in the Giudecca area of Venice away from St. Mark's Square. We had to catch a water bus from San Zaccaria, over to Zitelle and then just wondered along until we arrived at the Hilton which is the other end of Giudecca Island.
They do say that Elton John has a house in this part of Venice...

A Little Square in Venice
Advantages: Great location, comfortable, quiet, secure
Disadvantages: Single bedroom a little basic
...Last November I took my third trip to Venice. It hadn?t been my intention to go at all; this holiday was a joint birthday present from me to my parents but they insisted that I go along with them to show them around. Venice is a beautiful and unique city, so how could I refuse?
◄Discovering Hotel Campiello►
I discovered the Hotel Campiello on my second trip to Venice a few years ago. We were on a 10 day trip to Italy and had decided to spend most of the time in Rome and Florence, trying to leave 2 or 3 days free to include Venice. We had booked our hotels in Rome and Florence in advance but left the booking of the Venice leg until we were in Rome. We were staying at Hotel Paba in Rome (itself a gem of a place) and told the owner that we were thinking of booking into one of the big luxury hotels in the Venice Lido for 2...

LITTLE GEM HOTEL IN VENICE CALLED LA FENICE
Advantages: location location
Disadvantages: the staff
...the hotel is famous for the artists and authors who have stayed there. The hotel is located just five minutes walk from St. Mark's Square. so a brilliant location only problem is finding it the first time as the directions to the hotel given by the hotel seem very complicated and not easy to follow. It is only 15 minutes from Rialto bridge and even closer to Acadamier so a perfect location. It is located in a quiet thoroughfare so no street noise . It is right by the famous opera house that was burnt down and has now been rebuilt in all its glory although to go for a tour is by special arrangement only. The hotel ambience was very much in keeping with Venice and has a quantness about it there is a little garden you can have your breakfast in and drinks in the evening although it is quite nice it is not beautiful.. The bedrooms were...

VENICE - YES, YES, YES
Advantages: OH YES
Disadvantages: NONE
...everyone will get up to leave, don't get confused with a train station half way to Venice as some people did when we went, they quickly jumped back on the coach. There is a train station IN Venice, but we did not visit it.
Finding which water bus to take is not too bad, some only go to certain stops; others go directly to Lido Island, some go around the outsides and some go to every single stop up the Grand Canal, get on this on! Bus route 1.
FINALLY, The Hotel MANIN was the third stop after passing under the rialto bridge. The entrance to the hotel is stunning, the concierge spoke clear English and the cases where whipped away, passports checked and he escorted us up to our room. It had a small balcony looking right onto the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge was to our right, and so close you could hit it with a tennis ball.
The room was...

Near Death In Venice
Advantages: Location, decor and super-efficient concierge
Disadvantages: Pricey for some
...The Londra Palace is one of the oldest hotels in Venice, having first opened its doors in 1860. Perhaps its most famous visitor, at least in terms of what he did there, was the Russian composer Tchaikovsky who actually wrote his Fourth Symphony there. Having just heard a rendition of this work by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Torino it somehow seemed appropriate to stay there.
An initial word of caution. If you ever arrive in Venice in the middle of a storm, maybe it is best to avoid a water taxi. Quite apart from the prohibitive fares (a typical two mile or so ride from the railway station to Piazza San Marco will set you back over £40) it can be DANGEROUS! The boat lurches like a bobcat when it moors beside a jetty and as the driver hols you have to jump onto a rather narrow and possibly slippery pier.... one step wrong...

Lido De Jesolo
Advantages: Its safe, fun and very family friendly
Disadvantages: More expensive due to a weak pound currently .
...My family and I have visited Jesolo twice in the last 4 years. Here are our thoughts on Lido De Jesolo:
It has been and in some respects rightly called the Blackpool of the Adriatic.
I can see why people would say that. Its a family resort primarily and has lots of shops and local traders all plying for your euros. There however the similarity ends.
Jesolo is wonderful. Its clean, vibrant, hospitable and family orientated. Without doubt the place to go with a young family if you want a bit on sun, sand and entertainment.
I was shocked on our first night ot as the main road closed to vehicles in the evening. We just strolled along taking in the atmosphere, you still have to avoid the numerous cycles though.
There is a distinct lack of night clubs etc but that only adds to the place in my opinion. I an say with all honesty i...

cheapest hotel in venice but very nice!!!
Advantages: very cheap, free breakfast
Disadvantages: bit shabby
...Well went to venice in december with ryanair (1p flights!!!) it was only after I had booked the flights that I relised how expensive the town really was... After hours of searching I found this hotel it worked out at £90 for 4 nights for a double room, now that is very good for venice, was also surprised to find out that breakfast was included.
I was a bit hesitant as the price was too good to be true and it was also situated on the lido and it would mean getting a water bus to and from venice, I do have to point out that this is not a problem- they run 24hrs/day 7days/week. so I went a haead and booked it.
As we arrived into venice I saw a number of 3 or 4star hotel all looking pretty old and shabby so I began to feel quite worried.
we arrived at the hotel at 2 am there was a night person there. He was very friendly and spoke...

Six star service from a 4 star hotel.
Advantages: Close to all the sites and sounds of Venice.
Disadvantages: It is a bit on the expensive side.
...Hotel Al Ponte Antico. Venice.
The hotel Al Ponte Antico is a four star hotel in the centre of Venice. It is situated on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge and has spectacular views of the bridge from the balcony.
The hotel is part of a 15th century palace which has been lovingly restored by its current owner to its former glory. Each room is individually decorated in Louis XV period style elegance to a very high standard. There are only 9 rooms in the hotel which means that service is very personal and informal. The rooms contain the usual facilities such as minibar, Wi-Fi access, although we did not use it on this occasion, direct dial telephone, flat screen television and a superb bathroom with bidet and a multipoint shower. The bed was very comfortable.
On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Oliver who made us most...

Lido Life
Advantages: Nice to cool down and chill out on a hot day
Disadvantages: No go zone in bad weather
...Tinside Lido is situated on the historic Plymouth Hoe in Plymouth, Devon. Built in 1935 this art deco Lido was fully restored in 2003, at the cost of £3.4 million, after some years of neglect had left the grade II listed building more of an eyesore than a landmark. It is an unheated, seawater (treated) swimming pool open to the public for just a few months in the summer season.
When I was a youngster I often swam at this pool either with my family or under the supervision of Port Of Plymouth Swimming club and have many happy memories. After the refurbishment I swore I would never swim there again, as, in my opinion too much money was spent on a pool that would only be open for a few months of the year when we have a dire shortage of decent indoor swimming pools in Plymouth. The place is really dependent on nice weather to get...

Bargain Bragadin in Venice
Advantages: Well located and an excellent price
Disadvantages: Very hard to find and lack of facilities
...We've been enjoying taking advantage of some very cheap budget flights recently and my girlfriend found us a couple of cheap seats to Venice (okay, Treviso, but it's only a bus ride away!)
Having never been to Venice and having no idea of where to stay I needed to find a cheap hotel and found this place on Hotels.com/Expedia for around £45 a night. That's a cheap price as far as I'm concerned so I went ahead and booked, using a voucher for the booking site brought the cost down to £40 a night, a price I was certainly happy with.
Hotel Background
The hotel was opened in late 2008 and is located in the area of Castello. The building is a former palace, dating from 1362, but you won't find a lot of ancient features. They like to point out that Casanova has stayed at the palace in the past. The name 'Bragadin' is from the man who...
