Best hotel in Auckland (on a budget)!

Advantages: beautiful location, fantastic staff
Disadvantages: you cannot walk to the city

...We decided to book Spencer on Byron as our first stop in New Zealand as this hotel had the best reviews on a rival site, and was within our budget at about £40 per night. We landed in Auckland at 11 pm, tired after a 24 long trip from London. As Spencer on Byron is right across town, we got a good look of Auckland at night - beautiful. The taxi driver actually asked us how come we had picked that hotel as most tourists want to be closer to the city. At this stage we started to feel a bit worried about our choice, as in my experience taxi drivers are a good source of information on where to go and what to do. However, after a 35-40 minute long drive much of it through green luscious suburbs, we arrived at the hotel. The taxi ride cost us $80, including tips (you do not need to tip in New Zealand, but old habits die hard). As we...

Byron Bay Beach Bum!!

Advantages: Great beaches and surf
Disadvantages: Expensive

...much, it is not every day you can just climb up onto a table in a bar and dance away. The Beach Hotel - or 'The Beachy' as it is affectionately known is one of my favourite places in Byron Bay. It is chilled out and relaxed with a gorgeous outside drinking area that looks onto The Main Beach. They do great lunch time or evening food here, I recommend the nachos and also scampi. Some evenings and also Sunday afternoons the Beachy has live music, I spent one Sunday afternoon listening to a reggae band it was fabulous fun. Drinks are slightly expensive here but they do have some great cocktails. This place attracts a real mixture of holiday makers and locals. The Railway - Situated in the centre of Byron Bay this pub is always busy. The Railway is quite a local's pub with live music and good food. The Buddha Bar - this is...

Lord Byron

Advantages: Wrote great poetry
Disadvantages: A bit of a womanizer among other things

...I requested this subject as I love poetry but I can?t write it. Originally I just wanted to share some of my favourite poems with you the when I thought about it I thought it would be a good idea to focus on one poet and tell you a little about that particular person. I have chosen to write about Lord Byron not because he?s my favourite poet it?s because he did write my favourite poem. I hope you enjoy reading this. Born on the 22nd of January 1788 the son of Captain John Byron and his second wife Catharine Gordon. George Gordon Byron was born with a clubbed foot for which he got special shoes made for him to hide it. He inherited the title Lord Byron when he was six from his great uncle who was the fifth Lord Byron as he died without an air (he did have a son but he died before he did). He went to school in Harrow and then onto...

London: Lord Kensington Hotel: Paper Thin Walls!

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Paper thin partition\stud walls

...of things she was obviously bracing herself! It is now 1am, and I decided that enough is enough and that I will be changing rooms, so I went down to the guy in reception to request a new room. After 5 minutes of trying to wake him, he instead suggests that he would phone up and tell them to be more considerate, but I pointed out, and I said it in these exact words: "Look mate, you can't do that - you're gonna put him off his stroke man! It's not their fault that the sound insulation in your hotel is RUBBISH!" Anyway, after about 10 minutes of arguing with the guy, I bullied him into allocating me a different room on the floor above and off to the right! However, after that I found it quite hard to get off to sleep - but at least I wasn't where all the action is! At 3 am, I heard an altercation between between porno room...

Beautiful, Blissful, Beach-filled Byron

Advantages: Gorgeous beaches
Disadvantages: Not a busy, attraction filled place

.... I hadn't heard much about Byron before I got there and my knowledge was limited to the fact that it had a nice beach or two. What I didn't know, however, was how much of a hippy feel the town has, influenced by the pot capital of New South Wales, Nimbin, an hour and a bit away. However this impacts a stay in Byron as little or as much as you want it to, and you can have a 'normal', un-themed beach holiday here easily if that's what you're after. There is a good mix of accommodation including many self catering house and apartment rentals and upmarket (=expensive) hotels, and hostels are only a bit more in larger places - I paid the same as normal but here it was for a 4 bedded dorm with the others rather than a room of my own. I might not rush back to Byron for the simple reason that there's not all that much to do here beyond chilling...

Live like a Lord or Lady - Welcome to Ston Easton Park Hotel.

Advantages: Brilliant luxury hotel. Great location. Great value on late rate. Excellent dinner
Disadvantages: Can be expensive! Back to earth with a bump once you leave!

...back in time into the world of a Lord of Viscount, never before had we felt so regal. The room was amazing. It was styled extremely traditionally but had many subtle modern flairs that blended in to keep the theme going. The bed was humungous and was easily the most luxurious bed I have ever seen in a hotel, fit for a king or a queen! The architecture had been retained and the only indication of our modern era was the LCD TV that was fixed to the wall and the designer telephone next to it. Apart from those items we could have been in the 18th Century! The bathroom was also to die for with a huge roll top bath in the middle of the floor and a double shower to keep everyone entertained! Everything was so pristine down to the designer toiletries the bathroom had been kitted out with. The views from the windows over the parkland were...

Lording it up

Advantages: Great location, fantastic bar/lounge, good food
Disadvantages: Unappealing restaurant design

...The Lords of the Manor is an excellent hotel in so many ways. Having stayed there on several occasions, I would say the better rooms are to be found in the main original house rather than the more modern conversion/extension as the former have far more character. Sizes vary dramatically but all are comfortably furnished and I've always had a good night's sleep. The restaurant serves an interesting and varied menu but I would say the room itself is very dull in terms of decor. There is need for someone to spruce this up and making it less akin to something out of a Travel Lodge. Breakfasts however are excellent and there is a great variety on offer. The bar, however, and lounge are great places to spend a few lazy hours with tea or evening drinks and on each occasion a game of Monopoly by the fireside there has been most...

Hard to say bye to Byron

Advantages: Amazing scenery and beaches
Disadvantages: Too far to go every weekend - even for me!

...that paradise is all around you. There wasn?t a cloud in the pristine and intense blue sky, with Cape Byron lighthouse standing majestically over it?s charge at the far end of the beach I was simply awe struck. We lazed around all afternoon popping to the bar when we got so hot we just had to have a beer. That evening we collected our friend Sharon and her huge suitcase from the bus stop. It appears that no one told Sharon the basic rules about backpacking, like er? having a backpack. We dumped her stuff then sauntered of to check out Byron?s nightlife. We ate at a pub, The Great Northern, which had an impressive and good value specials board and live music most nights, this was a great pub, we moved on to the Beach Hotel, which, as the name suggests is facing the beach. This is a more upmarket joint than the Great Northern and as you...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

My Precious ( lord of the rings trilogy)

Advantages: best dvd collection you can own,
Disadvantages: need plenty of time to see the film

...Probably this film "LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY " have been reviewed many times. But I would still like to share my experience with this brilliant film by Peter Jackson. Everything about this film is perfect! I would suggest you to sit tight and don't let anyone disturb you while watching it, you will definitely miss something important if you did. Actually it happened to me so i just warn you! Don't make the same mistake as i did. Luckily i have the DVD set and i can watch it anytime i want to. Anyways here are some briefing on what to expect. The Lord of the Rings film trilogy consists of three live action fantasy epic films: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). The trilogy is based on the three-volume book The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. While they follow the book...
