City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring

Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap.
Disadvantages: Can be noisy

...Me and my girlfriend decided to visit Madrid last summer. So being the students that we are we booked cheap flights on easyjet. That was the easy bit. The hard part came later when we had to decide on a hotel to stay in. We wanted somewhere close to the city centre as we were only there for a few days but we had to do it on a budget but wanted to go slightly better than a hostel, it was after all our first holiday abroad together. ::: Why The Asturias?? ::: We eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will...

Hotel Praga, Madrid, Spain

Advantages: Cheaper than city, clean and tidy,
Disadvantages: location, language

...I went to visit spain in april 2008 for my birthday and stayed at hotel praga for 3 days. It is located out of the centre but not too far away, there is a metro station 5 min from the hotel which is great and easy to use, the same as the one in london if that makes it easier for you. its 1 euro for a one way ticket, the down side is the staff dont exactly speak alot of english, which can be tricky at busy times of the day.We got a taxi from the airport which cost about 27-28 euro, easy to check in and all they require is your passport and a credit card. The rooms were very clean and tidy with towels being changed all the time. It had good room service and a mini bar which wasnt that expensive, it had a marble bathroom and good space for clothes and other stuff. It had a nice big bar area downstairs, but for the area it was in there wasnt...

Traditional hard-floored hotel

Advantages: Central location, room safe
Disadvantages: Dangerous floors

...This traditional hotel is situated in the very centre of historical Madrid. Therefore the transfer time from the airport is one of the least. We took the train into the centre and then walked to the hotel. Without children this is a fairly reasonable distance to cover on foot but it was a bit too far with our small child in a buggy so we would advise a taxi if you travel with children. (I mean from the train station in the centre, not from the airport, as that would be far too expensive.) The neighbourhood of the hotel consists of the Royal Palace, the Opera Theatre and Puerta del Sol as well as Gran Via with its traditional shops, fashion centres and big stores. Being at the centre it is also close to the area of museums such as Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia, the restaurants and cafes and the parks and gardens. We used it as a great...

Good Airport Hotel

Advantages: reasonably-priced rooms, clean modern facilities, near airport
Disadvantages: no easy access to city centre

...I and various members of my friends and family have stayed here several times as it is within walking distance of my Dad's house and sometimes there are too many people for him to put up. Location They run free half hour shuttle buses to the airport which is great. It is only about 5-10 minutes from the main Madrid airport. It is not so easy to get into the centre of Madrid by public transport from there though - you need to take a 10 minute walk to the 77 bus then go to the nearest metro at Canillejas then take the metro to where ever you want to go. This would take an hour or more, say to get to the Prado or Puerta del Sol or similar. A taxi would be about 20 mins though so for most people that's the best bet. They have parking if you have hired a car but they make you pay extra per day. Near the hotel there is...

A hotel fit for a Duque?

Advantages: convenient location, clean quiet and comfortable
Disadvantages: single room a touch on the small side, breakfast quite pricey compared with local cafés.

...I stayed in the Gran Hotel Conde Duque for five nights when attending a conference which I had been organising in Madrid last October. As I work for a non-profit organisation my remit was to ensure that my accommodation was not overly expensive - no easy task, as well as being one of the official conference hotels. By booking on Activehotels.com I was able to get a single room for EUR 91 (ca. GBP 63) a night ? coming out at just under EUR 98 (ca GBP 70) a night including the mandatory sales tax. This was substantially cheaper than the ?reduced rate? of EUR 135 (ca. GBP 97) excluding tax being offered for single occupancy of a double room by our conference partners. It should of course be noted that as with nearly all hotels in Madrid, prices are exclusive of breakfast ? for breakfast you will pay approx EUR12 (ca. GBP 8) extra. I did...

Holiday Inn Madrid

Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room
Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive

...This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work. It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus lanes and regular services-every 5 minutes. And no over-crowding or rubbish strewn everywhere! The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once...

Eraso Hotel in Madrid

Advantages: Hard to find one
Disadvantages: I would say that almost all of them

...all over the floor and the walls, and it was so dirty that I had to raise a formal complain to the hotel, what lead to nothing, as they did not offered me to change my room??? I can't understand why the charge so much for each room since as I see it this is an utter rip off!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time I will visit Madrid, I will look for a newer hotel with much more facilities, such a good room service, bigger rooms and spotlessly clean hotel with maybe a swimming pool and a gym. I know that this is not something essential but in my humble opinion, as I keen traveler that I consider myself, I am sure that much more maybe offered considering the prices that they charge. Appart from that, the hotel is not in a good and safe area??I got stolen once during a stroll along the area???and I realized, the area around the hotel is full of houses...

Is bigger always better?

Advantages: Close to airport, free shuttle bus service, great breakfast buffet,
Disadvantages: Poor food, unhelpful staff

...This is a hotel that I frequently stayed in whilst flying, I sometimes felt that half of my life was spent here and this review documents my experiences. About the hotel: The Auditorium Madrid Hotel is the largest hotel in Europe (apparently) and is located a 10 minute car ride from the Airport There are 870 bedrooms across four floors, two bars, a restaurant, haute cuisine restaurant, a gym and beauty centre, swimming pool, 45 meeting rooms, guest parking and a conference centre for up to 8,000 delegates. So as you can see, it really is huge! It was opened in 2002. It is also a 4 star hotel, not 3 stars that is how Ciao has it rated. Location: As previously stated it is located close to Madrid airport on the N-II motorway. This is a very busy road and the location does not look prestigious. There are a couple of other budget...

See Madrid From This Fab Hotel

Advantages: Very close to the Puerta Del Sol and Gran Via.
Disadvantages: None

...I booked our short break through Expedia, who are always good at finding the best deals. Neither myself nor my husband had been to Madrid before, so we had no knowledge of the city at all. I researched the layout mapwise, to find out where the centre was regarding shopping, bars etc. The Puerta del Sol seemed as central as we could get. The hotel was on the Via Arenal, just off the square. On arrival we were greeted in good English by a very friendly receptionist and the check-in was smooth. The hotel was bright and modern. Not huge, but for a city centre it was big enough. There was a lift to all floors luckily, as we were on the 5th. Our room was large and airy. Satellite TV, air conditioning (a blessing in July), large double bed, plenty of storage and a wall safe. The bathroom was clean and roomy with one of those...

Exploring the Province of Madrid

Advantages: Splendid architecture and surrounding nature
Disadvantages: destinations are scattered and hard to reach by public transport

...Many tourists who plan a trip to Madrid like to combine it with some excursions in the surrounding area. Nearby Toledo and Salamanca, for example, are places that most of us may have heard of, if only from an Ernest Hemingway novel or from Cervantes' famous account of Don Quixote de La Mancha. But this wouldn't be worth an FTC review, had I not some more exclusive places to tell you about. On the third day at the latest, every first time visitor to Madrid will feel worn out from the dry climate in the Spanish capital. At an air humidity often below 30%, one longs for some fresh air and nature. The Province of Madrid, as well as surrounding Castilia is full of attractions worth a day trip. So where to go? There are two very popular day trips for Madrid tourists: 1. To the cities of Salamanca and Avila in the province of Castilia...
