A Safe Place In Sunny Marrakech

Advantages: good room, nice decor
Disadvantages: staff, breakfast

...This summer, I had been working full time, trying to earn the money in the gap from university but decided that once I'd had a taste of sun on our one week heat wave that I needed to get away myself. I had logged onto lastminute.com to see what kind of deals and destinations were coming up as I was literally looking at anywhere but a great deal came up for Marrakech, however I didn't have the money to pay upfront and new it would be gone by the time I got paid. Since I passed by this I logged onto ebookers.com and had a look at their hotels as a lot of the other holiday deal websites were giving hotels which didn't look as great. They have Ryad's over there which are almost like a bed and breakfast idea they are not the same service as a hotel. I decided to book through ebookers.com for the Hotel El Andalous as my researching after...

Mesmering Marrakech

Advantages: Stunning scenery!
Disadvantages: food, a bit of a culture shock

...Marrakech has always been high up on my list of places to visit, so earlier this year I packed my bags and set off with a friend to explore the city. We flew with easyjet from London Gatwick to Marrakech Menara airport, convinently located around 15 minutes taxi ride from central Marrakech. Morrocco has a closed currency system meaning that Morrocan Dirhams cannot be brought into the country or taken out. There are Bureau de Changes located throughout the city and they accept most major currencies including pounds and euros. The two main languages are French and Arabic, although English is widely spoken along with many other languages. A word of warning - Marrakech is a city where you have to haggle and haggle hard. Never accept the first price and be prepared to walk away! Prices quoted are usually 2-3 times as much as...

Make mine Amine

Advantages: good value, lovely grdens and poolside
Disadvantages: slow check in, naff music

.... One morning we got French toast, another we had boiled eggs and there was one morning where we had lovely freshly made pancakes. It's not one for someone who wants an English breakfast but why go to Morocco if that is what you want? The Amine is part of the med hotel group (now owned by Lastminute.com) and through them was a hotel rep who offered organised tours. We did most things ourselves but did have a lovely trip to the Atlas foothill which we could not have done by ourselves. There was organised entertainment of traditional music on about half the nights we were there. It seemed there was some kind of fee so we did not bother actually going into the dining room as we could hear most of it clearly from our balcony. As I have said I found the service fairly good. The staff did get to know us and by the end of it we were sort...

Diamond review  48 hours in Marrakech (Morroco)

Advantages: Beautiful climate, friendly + helpful locals, respectful people, great shopping, out of this world! :)
Disadvantages: hassel to buy, quite dusty (not great when you've got a cold)

...like in the old times, they sell by weight - weighing it using the silver scales. Authentic or what?! If you want to go and have a visit, his details are listed below: Name: Isfaoun Bijoux Shop Address: 4, Sagha bab mellah - Marrakech Tel: 044 38 12 35 After meandering around the local area for hours, we headed back to the hotel to explore some more and get a good night sleep ready for a full day the next. My friend had told me about a certain beauty treatment called the Hamman which I was keen to try out and fortunately, I had seen advertised in the hotel. So I went down to see what exactly it was. The Hammam treatment is basically like a steam room. They steam the room up so much and then the client goes in with just their underwear on and lies down on the floor. The steam helps...

Marrakech - it's like marmite you love or hate it.

Advantages: The mix of the city and the lovely riads
Disadvantages: The polution from petrol

...My daughter and myself have recently been lucky enough to spend four days in Marrakech in October. It was to me an amazing experience. We had a very early morning flight with Easy Jet, which meant we had most of the rest of the day to spend in Marrakech. From emails that I had been exchanging with the mamagers of The Riad Zolah in whch we were staying I knew we were being met at the airport, and taken as close to the Riad as a taxi can get. We were the last people out of the airport as I had left some things on the plane, and had to wait for it be be boarded before they would go and look for them. Luckily they were still there, and so was the taxi driver. It is an easy 15 minute drive to where we were dropped off, and met by a young lad with a big wooden cart which took our luggage and he guided us through souks and bewildering...

Meanderings in Marrakech

Advantages: Interesting people, different culture
Disadvantages: small amount of hassle

...Useful Information; Moroccan Currency: Durham?s Exchange Rate: £1 to 16 Dirham (dh) Language: Arabic, French, Spanish Capital: Rabat I travelled to Morocco with two friends, Claire and Chris, for a 3 week backpacking trip during the Easter holidays. We travelled around in a figure of eight from Marrakech to Tarradonnt in the south, then to the north where we visited tangier and the other cities, returning to Marrakech via the desert. We travelled by Thomson air which cost £80 return into Marrakech. We arrived early, as we had not pre-booked a hotel, hoping we would be able to find a nice one once we arrived. We took the trusted Lonely Planet with us as I had used this on a previous trip to New Zealand and found it extremely trustworthy, as it has lists of hotels and maps with which to find them. After long queues at passport...

When Can I Get Back There???

Advantages: Hot, sunny, varied food, cheap
Disadvantages: Nothing English at all, not for little children

...I'm not sure why my boyfriend and I decided to head to Marrakech or why we picked this hotel, maybe it was luck, maybe it was the cheapest thing that popped up through a search bar. Whatever it was, I like it! We've just come back from our trip and I only really have a few bad things to say about the hotel, and place in general. It's mainly only good qualities. We got off the plan and made it through the airport to an entrance/exit which is currently undergoing building work of two new terminals so it felt a bit odd and empty. There are handy cash machines and an exchange bureau which are handy as you can't get Dirhams in the UK. We were then outside in the half three in the afternoon sun and it was hot! Taxis were easy to spot and we set off on our journey to the Amine Hotel. I'm not sure if there are rules of the road, but it didn...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.

Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers? I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

Disadvantages: no alcohol at the moment

...news about Sheva, from Milan to London :-D They don't have the licence for sell alkohol at the moment, but if you travel in this kind of countries you know it can happen. The prices are very good, not expansive. For menù à la carte you will spend around 150 dhs. It means for have the exchange in Euro I do in this way: 150:11 and I will have the Euro. The New Moroccan Role

Advantages: "Colored cottons hang in the air?"
Disadvantages: "?Charming cobras in the square." (Crosby, Stills and Nash)

...-operative (Association de Tissage). Here we were shown round the workshops and saw some fine textile wall-hangings and bedspreads being hand-made by methods traditional to the point of being primitive, though producing far from primitive results. Parks and Gardens Marrakech has several notable gardens, not all of them, alas, open during our visit. The Mamounia Hotel was closed for refurbishment, and even my wife couldn?t persuade the watchmen on the gate that this need not preclude us from looking at its garden. The Agdal Garden, attached to the Royal Palace, was closed to the public because the king was in residence; I managed to steer my wife away before she debated the point too insistently with the armed guards who brusquely waved us off. We did, though, visit the Koutoubia Gardens that surround the mosque, a comfortable enough...
