Casa del Balam Hotel, Merida
Advantages: A unique and quaint hotel...
Disadvantages: Lacking a few mod-cons...
...We stayed in this hotel for a few days while on a little tour of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, including visits to Cancun (don't bother), Playa del Carmen & Cozumel (much better) and the amazing ancient Mayan ruins at Uxmal, Chitzen Itza and Tulum. (I'll try and get round to reviewing all these later...)
We arrived by taxi from Merida airport (a short journey), having flown in from Cancun...

Nuevo Mexico Restaurant
Advantages: Amazing desserts, gorgeous appearance of food, tasty, great service
Disadvantages: Lukewarm main course, not spicy

Location
This restaurant is on Artemidos Street (better known as the Airport Road) across from the big sports stadium in Larnaka. This makes it ideal for residents in our neighbourhood, but rather out of the way for tourists, who tend to eat near their hotels - often by the beach. This restaurant is about a kilometre inland from the beach, and not a place that visitors to Cyprus are likely to find by...

Down Mexico Way
Advantages: Wonderful ancient ruins to explore
Disadvantages: food was often fairly poor
...of colourful boats, in a suburb of Mexico City. It was very busy because it was a Sunday, with traffic jam of gondolas, but great fun, colourful and a wonderful setting, with old ladies in small boats selling flowers and various people selling food etc.
