No Cannes Do

Disadvantages: a tacky novelty that wore off quickly

...This summer I was lucky enough to spend a good bit of time touring the South Of France. It was a voyage of discovery and wonderment and I am going to share with you my experiences of Cannes. If you want historical facts about the place, or a list of hotels...you will not find it here.... but enjoy nonetheless. Funzo's Fantastical French Follying Adventures (the catchy name I gave my trip) had to take in Cannes. Driving along the south coast after a dissapointed day in the overcrowded, far too English resort of Nice, Cannes seemed an ideal box to tick and the 40ft Motorhome trundled laboriously along the picturesque if not scary coastal road that can take you from Monaco to Marseille with the sea never leaving your eyeline. Cannes and Nice France

Advantages: Good place for children, friendly, watch out for the hot summer months,
Disadvantages: Hotels get full fast so book ahead

Best HOTEL in Cannes - Carlton Intercontinental

Advantages: This is one amazing hotel with everything you want in one of the greatest cities of France
Disadvantages: pretty much non-affordable for normal folks

...In september 2000 I was invited to the presentation of OPEL´s new car called Corsa. I was surprised that they did this presentation not in germany, but in Cannes, France. Furthermore I was really happy to see which hotel OPEL booked for the 3 day stay of their exclusive customers: The world famous Carlton Intercontinental Hotel at Cannes... Famous, some of you might ask and I say yes, famous it is. Most of you know that european film festival every year at Cannes. That hotel there is that historic building in which all the major actors, directors and plenty of wannabe´s are staying. The building itself is under a historic building law in france and so to uphold business in there the owners have to spent lots of money quite frequently to rebuild the beautiful historic outside of the hotel. Glamorous Cannes

Advantages: Gorgeous, Glamorus, nice weather, beautiful beach
Disadvantages: expensive

...and fashionable Cannes at the other side of the sea. We were staying at Nice and went back there in the evening catching the return train. Cannes is full of hotels and holiday apartments. But most of them are rather expensive, thanks to its glamorous and fashionable reputation. However, there are plenty of equally beautiful places nearby along the Mediterranean coast where you can get relatively cheaper accommodation. It is highly possible to stay in Nice, Antibe or Canges sur Mer and visit Cannes in day trip. All these places are very well connected to Cannes by road and rail. Hotel Residence Monge - A great budget hotel

Advantages: Cheap, clean, comfortable, nice breakfast and staff, easy to visit all of Paris
Disadvantages: None

...This week we had a 2 night break to Paris; we stayed in the Hotel Residence Monge. I found the hotel on the internet through Parishotels.com. I then used various review sites to find out what others thought. Area The hotel is situated in the 5th arrondissement, walking distance to Notre Dame. It was a nice area to walk around in; plenty of lovely restaurants, bars and shops only 5 minutes walk away. 2 metro stops are nearby, Luxembourg and Place Monge. We ate out both evenings. Both meals were lovely and reasonably priced, but I can't remember names of restaurants. Hotel The hotel is fairly basic. It's a 2*. We choose it as a base for somewhere to sleep. You walk into reception, which has a couple of settee's in front. It is quite a dark reception. Next to reception is a small breakfast room. More on breakfast later...

Review of Hotel Residence Monge, Paris

The most charming hotel I have ever stayed in!

Advantages: Location, service, decor
Disadvantages: Absolutely none

...of my experiences of Paris as a whole. To sum up, I had a fantastic time in Paris and at the Residence Foch specifically. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Paris who wants individual and quiet accomodation within easy reach of the Metro system. I will DEFINITELY be staying here with my boyfriend next time I go to Paris....

Review of Hotel Residence Foch, Paris

First Residence is First Class

Advantages: Unbelievably great service, opulent , great restaurants and facilities
Disadvantages: none, except it is not free so you can't just live there

...I stayed here for four nights on my honeymoon and it is absolutely the best hotel in Cairo in my opinion. Actually not just mine - travelling business class I was waiting in the check in line talking to someone who lived in Cairo checking in first class who asked me which hotel and immediately said - "oh, that's the one" when I told them this one. There are two Four Seasons Hotels in Cairo - this is the newer of the two I think. It wasn't cheap but my goodness it was outstanding. The service was like nothing I have ever experienced. Example: I was reading my book on a sun lounger by the pool - they have pool waiters for drinks, towel check people who give you a special sheet-type towel to go over your sun lounger with a pocket for the head cushion, and another towel to dry yourself with, they bring you sun cream if you ask etc etc...

Cannes on a budget - yes, you can do it

Advantages: Glamorous, no mosquitos, cultural, beautiful, an experience
Disadvantages: Full of silly little poodles & their equally silly owners - can be expensive if you don't watch the prices

...Beleive it or not, it is possible to have a week in Cannes & spend no more than you would anywhere else in the Med! I was in Cannes years ago & did find it terribly expensive (but we were young, on the prowl & in search of nothing but drink & men... but not necessarily in that order). This time however, we were on a different mission - a secret trip to the Monaco Grand Prix - tickets were a surprise 30th birthday present for my loved one - and boy was he surprised! The GP is great but it was only a small reason why we chose Cannes. We had lovely accommodation - the Resideal Cannes right behind the Carlton & the Noga Hilton on the Croisette. It had a lovely pool, was 30 seconds from the Croisette & Rue d'Antibes & was gorgeous. The bar however, was a total rip off! We went to the supermarket in search of cheap & we certainly...

Resident evil 1

Advantages: Story!
Disadvantages: same theme as many before it

...Introduction Resident evil is a Science fiction horror film which was made in 2002 and was based on video games Resident evil 1 and resident evil 2. Unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of computer games and I had never heard of the games until recently. And I did not see the film when it first came out...I was too young! Review of Resident Evil (DVD)

Evil in Residence

Advantages: Twists at the start
Disadvantages: You've seen almost all of it before elsewhere

...either. The twist at the end of Resident Evil: Apocalypse doesn't seem to have been used much which may annoy or confuse some viewers who were expecting it to be developed on. There are a few nods back to it now and then and Alice seems to have developed telekinetic abilities as well from no-where (no idea if that was ever used in any of the games having only played 1 of them). There is a lovely old school nod in homage back to the Hitchcock classic "The Birds" at one point during the movie. One scene doesn't quite ring true, where their attacked by the zombies in the container in Las Vegas. Now this is a well co-ordinated group who have clearly survived and held their own for a good long time against the zombies but here they are panicking, firing randomly and firing on automatic when ammunition is clearly in short supply.
