Central and Ideally Placed, Hotel Roma Reial
Advantages: Perfect location, excellent Hotel if you just want somewhere to sleep
Disadvantages: A little hard to find, nothing really major though, Breakfast could have been more substantial
...Having decided over Christmas that I fancied a trip to Barcelona again I got onto the Ryanair website and started booking up. Having been to Barcelona a few years ago and staying well outside the main centre I decided that this time I wanted something quite central but also at a budget price. After all there was no way I could have afforded one of the posh 5 star hotels. So with those thoughts in mind I trawled all sorts of internet sites and ended up back on the hotel section of the Ryanair site. I had a couple of choices around the Station and dotted over the city but decided that Roma Reial fitted the bill better than any of the others.
It's located just off Las Ramblas, the main street in Barcelona where a lot of the cities drinking establishments are located. The Roma Reial is located in the Placa Reial about 200 meters from...

Sharing my experience of the Sheraton Roma
Advantages: Comfortable hotel - handy for the metro
Disadvantages: Characterless - can be expensive
...This year, we mostly went to Italy.
We had booked a hotel a little to the south of Rome for a few nights as we wanted to visit places outwith the city but changed our plans for the Saturday night and tried to book a hotel in Rome itself. Not an easy task (at least not on my budget). Oh sure, you can stay in a pit close to Termini station, but not being suicidal, or wishing to part company with my belongings, and always leaving myself the option of swinging a cat should the chance arise, I'm afraid that's not for me.
Long story short...after several near things (literally) we ended up booking the Sheraton.
The Sheraton isn't in central Rome, it's in the EUR district. This presented no significant problem however. It's a breeze to find - take junction 26 on the ring road and head for central Rome. Go through the EUR district almost...

Cardinal Hotel - Not Bad, Not Bad
Advantages: Reception, Balcony, Breakfast Bar, Rooms
Disadvantages: First Impression
...I recently decided to go to Rome or should I say Roma to see the main sights such as the Vatican and the Coliseum. So upon deciding this, I would obviously have to stay some where. I decided to stay here because a few family members had already stayed at one that was similar just down the road so I thought that I should try some where new.
- First Impression (Locals)
My first impression of the public as soon as I got into Rome was not an amazing one at that. When came out of the airport and got into the nearest taxi possible the taxi driver helped me with my bags as you would expect. As I set off I noticed that the taxi driver took me onto the motor way only to realise later that he was taking the route that would go all the way around the city as well as having the clock charging us at the maximum amount. It came to a very...

Hotel Daniela di Roma
Advantages: Nothing really shone through
Disadvantages: Awful beds, not great location, no added value
...We spent the last weekend of February in Rome, arriving on Friday afternoon and leaving on Sunday night. Our hotel was booked on www.expedia.co.uk and I selected it based on recommendations from the website. This was our fist visit to Rome (simply fantastic) and we were lucky to have timed it for the last weekend of the month ? meaning that on the Sunday a number of attractions were free to enter, most notably Vatican City, including the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter?s Basilica.
The hotel is located just out of walking distance of the centre of the city and so public transport, taxis or a hired car is a necessity for anyone staying there. It is in walking distance from two different Underground stations, both on Line A ? Vittorio Emmanuel and Manzino. I?m sure there are bus routes nearby but we didn?t take the bus to and from...

To Roam aroun Rome by a Roma Pass!
Advantages: Queue jumping, don't have to worry about entrance fees
Disadvantages: Can not be cost effective
...The Roma Pass was something a work colleague mentioned to me, although she did not know the name just there was some card thing that gets you benefits.
So I looked up things to do in Rome and eventually came across the website for the Roma Pass through a link from another website. The Roma Pass website is: http://www.romapass.it/?l=en
The website gave me a great insight as to what the card was, there are 2 types of cards, so it explains what both offer and how much they cost.
The standard (red) Roma Pass costs 23 Euros, and the Roma & Piu (blue) Pass costs 25 Euro's.
The website goes on to have tabs for museums, events, a virtual tour, information, download and buy. I opted not to buy ours online, and decided I would get them when there.
The website sells the cards with this strap line "The Cards that offers you...

When in Romas (Tony's, that is)
Advantages: Walking distance from home
Disadvantages: Not worth walking to
...Let's get one thing straight right away. Tony Romas doesn't have a restaurant in Edinburgh but there is a newly opened one in Livingston. Can the ciao database be wrong? It hardly bears thinking about. Anyway, Livingston is close enough to Edinburgh as far as I'm concerned and it should be for you too.
Phase 3 of Livingston's town centre opened just in time for Xmas last year and one of the features was an outdoor 'promenade' of sorts featuring a number of restaurant chains including Nandos, Wagamama, Chiipolatas (or some such Mexican-type thing) among others. Among the others is Tony Romas.
I can't say I was all that tempted by chicken piri-pri or guacamachillilitos, so Tony Romas it was to be.
Livingston is just the place for a corporate branded, characterless chain restaurant - we don't do quaint or cute here. So shiny...

Bone China by Roma Tearne
Advantages: Interesting easy to read novel
Disadvantages: None
...The author, Roma Tearne, was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Britain when ten years old. Before becoming a writer she trained as a painter and her work has been widely exhibited. Bone China is her second book and is a very enjoyable and moving story, following four generations of the de Silva family, from the 1930's onwards.
The de Silva's are a Tamil family living in Ceylon, or Sri Lanka as it was. Grace is the family matriarch to a somewhat dysfunctional family and is the link that bonds all the characters of the book. Grace was born into a rich land owning family but she marries Aloysius for love and watches with great dignity as, over the years, he drinks and gambles away her family's fortune. Always trying to maintain the traditions and customs of her time, in a country every increasingly torn apart by political and civil...

The Rise of the Mighty Roma Empire
Advantages: Fabulous, home made, traditional Italian food
Disadvantages: Valentines Day wasnt indicative of the quality you usually find
...I am sated, the fires of my desires have been quashed, I am ecstatic with the sensational feeling of a full belly. Music is the food of love so they say, but for me, food is love! The way to this girls heart is definitely through her stomach ( and your wallet if you're rich enough!) Hence I spent the evening of St Valentines in a wonderful little Italian restaurant in the Kingswood area of Bristol. Well apparently its part of South Gloucester now, but no one ever notices that!
Roma is a fantastic little restaurant anyway, and I'll tell you more about that later. But at the moment I'm concentrating on that Valentine set menu.
Its usually quite difficult to get a table in Roma on a Saturday, so we were happily surprised to get a table at 9.00pm, it has to be said, it isn't the biggest place in the world! When we got there we could...

Milton Hotel Rome - Great location & price but disappointing
Advantages: Great location, breakfast and excellent transport links
Disadvantages: The noise, the bad service and inappropriate staff
...I recently returned from a 5 night break in Rome with a girlfriend, staying at the Hotel Milton - at the time of booking we got a real bargain as the whole trip cost £240 including BA flights. Before travelling I confirmed the reservation by email, and the email I received was friendly and professional.
When we arrived we found the hotel very easy to lcoate, literally across the road from the metro (Manzoni stop), and the staff very understanding of two weary travellers and their lack of Italian! The lobby area had an internet point for guests (which we did not use), but was undergoing refurbishment so it was quite messy. We were given a map of Rome and the reception staff marked the main sites and facilties.
The room was clean, if quite small, but had all the expected facilities (flat screen tv, fridge with mini bar, stock...
