...Introduction: So, we're stuck in Albuquerque, and have pretty much seen about as much desert as we can take. We've 'done' all there is to do. With a spare weekend on our hands, we decided to take advantage of our Geographical positioning and take a trip to somewhere on the west coast. I've always wanted to see San Francisco, and after looking into flights, we found some bargains. So off we go. We looked for reasonable hotels, and came across The Petite Auberge, it wasn't the cheapest we found, but it had an appealing charm that won us over, so we booked. San Antonio Hotel - A Touch of Class

Advantages: Offers something for all age groups
Disadvantages: Out of centre of town

...This hotel is of an excellent standard. I work in the travel industry so would say I have very high standards. The decor of the hotel is of a very high standard and the service is second to none. This hotel deserves the 5* rating I have given it. It has entertainment to suit all age groups and you can be as busy or quiet as you want to. I would return to this property again without any hesitation. The pool area is very large and appealing. More than adequant sun loungers for guests. The food is of a very high standard and I found it catered for all tastes. You could eat plainly or really let your taste buds run wild. It is ideal as a family or couple. It is set at the quieter (and in my opinion, nicer) end of puerto Del Carmen were you find nice coves for bathing. It is also very easy to get in and out of the main centre of the resort....

The Dakota hotel: cheap hotel in the heart of San Francisco

...In 2007-2008 I lived in San Francisco for work for 4.5 months. The first two week I spent in the Dakota Hotel, in search for a spot of my own. Dakota hotel caught my eye for a number of reasons: the price and the location. Normally, you'd have to rob a bank or two to stay in a hotel in the heart of San Francisco for two weeks. Comfortable Hotel in the Centre of San Francisco

Advantages: Comfortable, Friendly, Good Facilities
Disadvantages: Parking at the front of the hotel is sometimes difficult

...We stayed at the Chancellor Hotel by accident! We had hotel vouchers for our visit to San Francisco but the hotel we stayed in on our first night was so awful (and in one of the more dangerous areas of the city - we heard that the street on which it was situated had the highest murder rate in San Francisco!) that we decided to ring San Francisco Reservations, a hotel broker mentioned in our guide book. Hotel brokers basically rent out hotel rooms at short notice at lower than advertised prices. That is how we were able to stay in the Chancellor, which is a 3 star hotel, for $50 per night! According to the hotel's website, special room rates start at $125 per night, so we definitely got a good deal by going through San Francisco Reservations! The Chancellor Hotel is right on Union Square in the centre of San Francisco and is convenient...

Castilla Hotel Alicante Playa San Juan

Advantages: close to the beach
Disadvantages: service poor.

...My wife and I have just spent a week at the Castilla and have returned home very disappointed with the hotel itself and the concrete jungle in which it resides. To start with the pluses: The hotel is spotlessly clean - though we did find in our room a cockroach of the sort of proportions which might have got it some extra work in the film "Alien". The cleaning staff and indeed all the female staff working in the hotel were helpful and efficient, pleasant to talk to and always wore a smile. Anything else? hmmm the lifts worked! None of the male staff measured up to the female. Surly, unhelpful and distant are the kindest words I can find. The food was poor - it was never served warm. Maybe it is a Spanish tradition to serve mashed potato and vegetables cold. If so it is not one that I have encountered before. The shops in the area...

...Just got back from a lovely holiday in San Francisco where we stayed at the York Hotel at 940 Sutter Street, just 4 blocks from the central Union Square area and only 2 blocks from the major transport stops at Powell Street. History: Built in the 1920s, the hotel still has many of its original features, including Bakerlite electrical fittings and ceramic solid baths. It also has a history. If you're a Hitchcock film fan you'll love the fact that Vertigo was filmed here and you will spot the square white hotel staircase used in the film as James Stewart suffers an attack of Vertigo. Disadvantages: Prehaps too far from Fishermans Wharf if only a stop-over break?

...I stayed at the Pickwick with 3 friends in April 2007. It's a very pleasant hotel situated within walking distance of the cable car turnaround and Union Square, and can't be faulted for it's price given the fairly central location for shopping/business. It's probably about 20 minutes to Fishermans Wharf via cable car from here. The general area felt safe at night, it was very, very quiet in terms of people being around - probably due to the fact that most surrounding buildings were retail/office space. There were a few homeless people near the hotel, but having visited many cities on our US tour, it's pretty obvious that San Francisco is one of the worst hit places. It seems that someone wants a dollar every 50 yards in San Francisco. The room which we had was situated at the rear of the building away from the road, so was quiet...

Playa de San Juan - An excellent hotel

...We chose to visit the Holiday Inn Alicante Playa de San Juan for a week in July after having three very pleasant stays in Express by Holiday Inns in the UK. We were not sure what to expect in terms of quality, however it was probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in. The cost was ?94 per night for an en suite room with king size bed and an ?almost double? sofa bed. The room was on the third floor of the hotel and had a view of another apartment block to the rear of the hotel. However, this did not cause any problems as the apartments were quite a distance from the hotel, therefore not blocking the panoramic view. THE HOTEL The hotel building is over 7 floors: the ground floor, floors 1 to 5 and a floor called '-1'. If you are given a room on the '-1' floor, don't think that they are shoving you in...

San Remo in style

...We booked this holiday through an Irish travel company called Abbey travel based in Dublin and although it was expensive (Italy usually is expensive in my opinion), we loveld the look of the hotel. Flight was to Nice form Dublin with a personal taxi transfer to San Remo at hurtling speeds across the French/Italian border. The hotel is very grand indeed and would be a lovely place to take your most precious partner for a luxurious break and a bit of pampering. It really is 5 star in all aspects. The rooms are sumptious and the decor is right out of an antique catalogue, the clientelle are all well heeled and the atmosphere is like out of a 1930's novel with Brits abroad emulating the grand tour of the 18th century. As we are in Italy, it goes without saying that the food was gorgeous throughout our stay and the Italian style...
