Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel.
Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.

...After an incredible weekend away with my darling husband to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, I have now decided to do my first and quite possibly my last hotel review! Our destination of choice for this excursion was to be a place new to us, so of course the hotel had to be in a prime location at a price we could afford?fortunately we seemed to fall on our feet so to speak on both of these points. Our destination, to be exact was York, and due to the sheer number of attractions available to us, we wanted a hotel reasonably central, or at least within walking distance of the few sights we wished to see. After some extensive research, mostly through the designated York tourist board site, we came across the perfect hotel. MERTON HOTEL, ST SAVIOUR JERSEY

Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool
Disadvantages: no sea view, small television

...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands. We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay. The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard. We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast. We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel). OUR BEDROOM +++++++++++++++ Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...

St Paul's Bay - excellent value for money

Advantages: Cheap, easy to get around, hassle free.
Disadvantages: The time share people, although we were only hounded twice.

...I booked a holiday for my husband, my mum and myself at the San Anton hotel in St Paul's Bay. The San Anton is a nice, basic hotel offering self catering or all inclusive. It's ideal for families as there is organised entertainment for both children and adults throughout the day. This was ideal for us as my mum can't walk very well and is often too tired to venture out of the hotel. There was a 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop from the hotel so it wasn't difficult to find our way round the island on the local buses. Every thing I'd read about the local buses prior to arriving in Malta suggested they were falling to bits and were incredibly uncomfortable, however, I didn't find them any worse than the average bus at home in Glasgow, and at 80 pence, approximately, for the longest journey they offer much better value. So with my first impression of the locals engraved in stone in my mind I got out of the taxi to find the Cardinal Hotel, St Peters. - The Address The address suggests that the hotel is basically on the door step of the Vatican its self. I have no idea why it was so similar to the address of the actual St Peters because the Cardinal Hotel is on the out skirts of the city. Even one or two of the taxi drivers who had been around for a while weren't sure where it was. To get to the hotel you have to turn off a main road after avoiding some mad traffic (that's how they drive there) into a back street which looks like it has taken a beating over the years and could do with someone tearing it apart and relaying the concrete...

...I went on holiday recently with a bunch of lads to celebrate our 21st Birthday....what we did in Amsterdam though for that is a different story xD However on browsing the internet we originally settled on a hotel which was said to be literally 1 minute walk away from the city centre. However due to some stairs being described as the 'Stairs of Death' We decided to upgrade to a 2* Hotel instead! On arrival in Amsterdam, we found a booth at the train station where you typed in the address of your hotel, and it located it for you and printed it along with tram lines and numbers to get, So we printed and thought with our luggage, oh that doesn't look far, we'll walk there. And truth be told, it was only what 20 minutes walk away from the centre. Maybe a bit more depending on your walking pace. But with the Luggage it took...

...complained to the waitress and she went away in a very surly manner leaving the cold uncooked food in front of me and then reappeared 10 mins later with another POACHED EGG. By this point I was beginning to lose not only my appetite but also the will to live, when I explained again that it was the kipper that was uncooked, not the egg she just looked at me vacantly and shrugged her shoulders. I almost expected her to cough in my face and say computer says NO David Walliams stylie. the staff at the hotel let down what could be an absolutely stunning hotel one of the waiting staff a young asian man, stank of body odour both times i stayed there, which is very off putting, if his own level of personal hygiene is so poor it makes you shudder to think what his food hygiene standards are!!...

Pleasant stay at the St George

Advantages: Comfortable, attractive hotel with good range of facilities
Disadvantages: Location not the best, can be chaotic in the dining room

...and gym free but spa services at extra cost, as you would expect. Small shop and hairdressers also available. Range of sitting areas around the pool, plus grassy areas and rocky areas adjacent to the sea. Animation team worked hard to encourage participation in events but were very friendly and not pushy. Nightly entertainment of the usual variable standard, but also an enjoyable quiz. Balance of guests during out stay were mainly British, but also German, French and Russian guests were staying. Dining experience was the main downside. Breakfast was generally OK but disapointed that no omlettes etc could be made to order as is usual in this class of hotel. Only "omlettes" available had been baked in the oven in trays and were some 50mm thick - more like egg custard. We did not have lunch in the hotel, but took the evening meals as we were...
