...on the outskirts of Syracuse, away from the restaurants/shops, and is noisy. On the plus side it is relatively clean and accessable. It is a very 'average' hotel, but I would however think twice about stopping here again....

...Calheta is a small village on the coast about 45 minutes west from Funchal airport by taxi, through lots of tunnels and about 21 miles from Funchal. The mountain provides a backdrop to the two hotels, owned by the same company and a few shops and several restaurants. Disadvantagescleaner walked into the room without knocking, quite expensive for a room

We found the Strathpeffer Hotel, which was still fairly expensive at £80 for the night, but it looked nice enough and had reasonable reviews, so we went for it.
