...Last year in the Sunday supplements I read about the new Hilton Hotel that had just opened in Venice and they had comments on the wonderful views and the roof terrace.

Hotel Helvetia - avoid!
Advantages: Not too expensive, nice breakfast, nice view
Disadvantages: Poor room, bad location, indifferent service
.... However, it was self-service and the coffee was dreadful.
The cost of the vaporetto to Venice proper was VERY expensive. ?6.50 per person each way. So for the two of us to travel to Venice and back every day, it cost ?91. It might be worth spending that on a better hotel in Venice itself!
