Whoaaa! I've Been To Barbados!

Advantages: Friendly people, good food, lovely temperature, the beaches
Disadvantages: A long way. Some may not like the summer humidity

...and Worthing, one of which even sports an Osterley Hotel, which made me smile as the original is about 1½ miles from my house! My first two stays were in the Welcome Inn and in its second rebirth, The Barbados Beach Club. The hotel was a mixture of self-catering and full board, the rooms being equipped with fridges (not mini-bars), cooker hobs and kitchen sinks. However, we got wind that the inevitable was going to happen ? it was going to go ?all inclusive?. I can see why the hotel management might think that this is a good idea, after all, you?ll probably stay on the premises all week, booking sundry extras, but from my point of view, I do actually WANT to eat out every night, and to a newcomer, the very existence of ?all inclusive resort hotels? gives the impression that it?s not safe to go out. Sam Lords Castle Barbados.

Advantages: Amazing weather,great views ,good nightlife.
Disadvantages: People can be a little laid back.

...I have family in barbados and I thought a review on the non tourist side of barbados and places most people never get to see would be helpful. Barbados is a very beautiful and laid back island and along with the tried and tested tourist attractions there are very many places you cannot miss on a visit the first of these is Oistins Bay at the south of the Island, there is a beautiful beach here called Miami Beach (not that one) mainly used by locals but everyone is welcome, it is split into two with the rougher water coming in on the west this side can be used for boogie(body) boarding which can be hired or just lounging. ...As a student my consumption of rum and other spirits is unsurprisingly high and often this means going for low end spirits which are easy on the wallet ! however when at home this summer i saw mount gay rum and was recommended it by a friend so bought a bottle from a local wine store for about £16 which even on my budget was reasonable. Originating from barbados the rum has a deep history going back to 1703 and claiming to be the oldest rum in the world. USing only the finest sugar cain and coral waters of barbados. My bottle was a dark rum called the mount gay rum eclipse range and had 43% percent with 86 proof. The coulour of th rum was very enticing as it had a beuatiful golden almost caramel complexion. I mean it?s breathtaking, it?s hard to imagine the sea can look so beautiful when you look at the cold grey sea at some of the coastal areas over here (not all). I am not knocking UK beaches, but there is a slight difference in temperature and colour. Even if you can?t swim you can always paddle or learn to swim, that?s were I learnt to swim many years ago,the very first time I went. I?ll go into that later. I?m talking about Barbados. A tiny Caribbean island 14 miles wide by 21 miles long. It takes about 7.5 to 8 hours to get there from UK airports. Barbados - wow!!!

Advantages: Weather, friendly people, beaches, cheap alcohol...
Disadvantages: Annoying people trying to sell you jewellery/drugs on the street

...Undoubtedly Barbados has to be one of the most beautiful and enchanting places on earth. The weather is pretty much consistent in being brilliant all year round. The beaches are absolutley fantastic, especially around the south-west St. Lawrence Gap area and the best beaches are probably on the east coast but this is very much an exclusive and very expensive place to stay which would explain why it is frequented by the rich and famous. The nightlife is very upbeat around St Lawrence Gap and Bridgetown with the main hot-spots being "Harbour Lights" and "The Ship Inn", however it is very hard to get away from reggae and ragga music. The capital Bridgetown is very good for tax-free shopping and market stalls where a whole range of presents for the family can be bought. Something that i would advise doing while you are there is taking a trip...

Hotel International

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Not so Grand - Barbados

...The not so Grand Barbados Beach resort is located on the west coast of Barbados in The Carlisle Bay Resort. A large property in need of renovation and modernisation which recently went under a refurbishment (lick of paint - outside). The hotel is 10 miles away from Barbados main airport Grantley Adams International, Bridgetown with a transfer time of around 20 minutes. The concept of the hotel when it first opened must have been a great one which went into a downward spiral and never recovered! It has a big fountain just outside reception which is rarely ever on and with black mould around it. A small pond of some description is located to one side with fish which can just be seen through the mould also. A large undercover area around the fountain is supposed to give the 'Grand' entrance where you would expect a bell boy to wait to...
