Picturesque Windermere
Advantages: excellant value for money
Disadvantages: set on steep hill
...and breakfast stay, in a four poster, Jacuzzi suite and I would say this was well worth the money.
The dinner alone, in a restaurant in the South East where I live, would cost in excess of £70 in total, therefore, £85 per night, per room, including unlimited breakfast, for the suite we had, was excellent value for money.
Drinks are in line with pub prices, which made a refreshing change, as normally hotel prices can be a little inflated.
****area accessibility****
The hotel is situated within walking distance of Bowness-on-Windermere, which is where you can pick up the Windermere Ferries. It is about a 15 minute walk going, as it?s downhill, but probably a good 30 minutes coming back. Not good if you have small children or mobility issues and very steep in places.
In the opposite direction is the town of Windermere, with its variety...

Beautiful Location On The Shores Of Windermere
Advantages: Swimming Pool,Lovely Views,Excellent food
Disadvantages: Some of the rooms are getting a bit tired but they are working on this
...Located in a beautiful spot on the shores of lake Windermere with large windows on the lake side overlooking it. I got married here and had a fantastic day the hotel really made it, not just with the views but the level of service was extremely good and everyone said that the food was the best they had had at a wedding before. The Wordsworth suite which we used as our honeymoon suite for a few nights is out of this world although isn,t cheap, you have your own private door to the pool, garden overlooking the lake with hot tub, massive bed, remote control curtains well worth it if you fancy treating yourselves. All in all The Beach Hill Hotel is well worth a look, its only a taxi ride away from Bowness but is nice if you want to stay in-house and dine and chill a bit, and I would highly recomend it as a wedding venue....

Excellent Hotel Well Worth A Look
Advantages: Good position, Excellent food, Excellent staff, Some nice rooms
Disadvantages: Lake views are a little far away, Some rooms require modernisation
...and resturaunt seem to be worked by mostly foreigners as are many places in the Lake Disrict nowadays. The staff are very pleasant and helful and are very polite towards you. They have obviously been very well trained to make your stay very enjoyable.
Location
**********
Located at the top of the hill in Bowness on Windermere it is in a very good spot for getting in to town. The shops, bars and resturaunts of Bowness are on your doorstep. It is also not that far into Windermere the other way. As you walk down the hill past the many shops etc. you come to the lake at the bottom and the boats go from here for the many daily boat trips on Windermere. From the hotel to the lake is only a 10 minute walk maximum and is downhill, coming back up at the end of the day is a different matter!! but very good for you I'm sure!!

A cruise on Windermere
Advantages: No driving, fresh air, wonderful scenery
Disadvantages: May be a bit wet and windy up top depending on the weather
...Each time we go to the Lake District we go on at least one cruise on Lake Windermere and our last visit was no exception ? we took my mother in law on the journey from Bowness to Ambleside and she loved it!
The people who run the cruises are a company called Windermere Lake Cruises ? I bet it didn?t take too long to think of that name!
The company runs cruises across the lake between Bowness, Ambleside (Waterhead) and Lakeside.
Bowness is a pretty holiday town which is the ?heart? of the Lake District. It has all sorts of shops from the traditional Tesco, Boots, Co-op and clothes shops to shops selling souvenirs of every kind. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants here making it an interesting place to spend a couple of hours.
Ambleside is a beautiful town full of interesting shops selling everything from books to...

...Me and my partner stayed at this hotel last weekend and the whole experience was superb from start to finish.we had booked here as we were getting married on sat 22 august.my 1st impression of the hotel when we arrived was AMAZING! When we arrived a lovey gentleman rushed to help us with our bags and even offered to park are car.once in the hotel i was stunned by how clean and how stylish it was.once we haad checked in we were about to go to are room when the concierge shouted us back to tell us that they were upgrading us from our executive room to a fantastic suite.are suite was absolutely gorgeous with modern decor and a newly fitted bathroom suite with shower and bath.the view from our room was breathtaking.you could see straight to the lake and watch the boats come and go.if you looked down you could see the roof top terrace bar...

Hillthwaite House Hotel - a Haven!
Advantages: Value for money, service, restaurant
Disadvantages: Drive is on a very steep hill!
...I've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District. You might question the wisdom of going to the Lakes for a weekend of watersports and outdoor activities in wintry March, and you'd be right to do so! However, the gale force winds, hail and snow were made bearable by the excellent Hillthwaite House Hotel where we were staying. The hotel was an absolute haven!
Basics
The hotel is a family run business and has about thirty rooms. We were staying on a special weekend offer and paid £185 each for three nights, including bed, breakfast and dinner. The hotel is in Windermere and is about a fifteen minute drive from the M6. It has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Getting There
The hotel had sent a brochure after I booked on the phone and the brochure had a map on the back so I wasn't expecting any...

Rumours Mediterranean Restaurant
Advantages: Great location, atmosphere and quality food
Disadvantages: Some things alittle expensive
..., which was literally a 50 second walk from the restaurant.
How to get there
For Sat Nav purposes:
Rumours
St Martins Square
Bowness on Windermere
Cumbria
LA23 3EF
Telephone: 015394 44382
Overall Opinion
A lovely little restaurant and if you can get a table in the window all the better as it?s a great place to watch the world go by and is literally a 2 minute walk from the lake.
The staff were very friendly and the restaurant offered a good selection of starters, mains and desserts.
The background music was very pleasant (Gypsy Kings if I remember correctly ? it is a Mediterranean restaurant afterall) and not too loud, so you didn?t have to shout over it.
An enjoyable dining experience and a restaurant we would definitely go to again when we are next in the Lakes....

Three stars with pretensions
Advantages: Swimming pool and free parking close to the town centre
Disadvantages: The four stars aren't really justified, they just 'justify' an overpriced hotel
...The Belsfield is a bit of a curiosity: I'm not entirely sure whether I enjoyed my stay there or not.
First off: it is set in quite substantial grounds, so it has a reasonable amount of parking space for a hotel this close to the centre of the village, which is most definitely a plus at any time, never mind at the height of the tourist season. I stayed here at the end of November last year - well out of season.
Another plus, if you aren't into lake swimming, it has it's own swimming pool. It also has a sauna, but that is somewhat lukewarm and could do with some renovation, if only to replace the scorched wood! Access to the swimming pool is down a fairly steep flight of stairs and there is no lift access.
The hotel was once a mansion, which explains its somewhat labyrinthine layout. There is a small lift, but because...

The Best Way to See Windermere
Advantages: I enjoyed the traditional boat
Disadvantages: I didn't really like the bigger boat
...Prior to my recent family trip to Ambleside I had decided that a trip to the Lake District would not be complete without actually going on a lake. I had looked up all of the details about lake cruises and then left them in London. So, it was pure luck that during a not very pleasant walk we ended up at Brockhole Visitors Centre where we discovered that it would be much easier to take a boat across the lake rather than battle with traffic and lack of pavements.
We boarded the boat at Brockhole where we were greeted by two very friendly people. Not having planned the trip we didn't know much about where we were going or how much the boat was going to cost but the staff could not have been more helpful. They made sure that we got a good deal with the ticket price and told us a little bit about our destination.

Dare you enter Mr McGregors garden?
Advantages: Interesting for all the family
Disadvantages: not enough for a full day
...This years holiday for my family was to the Lake District and one of the attractions we decided to visit was Beatrix Potter as there was no way you could go to the Lakes without taking in this attraction or visiting 'Hilltop' where Beatrix lived. We opted for the attraction as felt that maybe this would be more appealing to all of use than just going to look at where Beatrix used to live with not much else there and we all love the tales of BP.
Getting there is fairly straight forward, Junction 36 off the M6, take the A591 towards Keswick turning off onto the A592 towards Newby Bridge with the attraction being located in Bowness town centre. Alternatively you could take one of the Windermere ferries from either Lakeside or Ambleside or take the unique car Ferry that runs from Ferry House at Far Sawrey to Ferry Nab just South...
