Chester Zoo

Advantages: Great day out
Disadvantages: None

...This past weekend I also had the opportunity to go to Chester Zoo and what a great day out we had. I haven't been to the zoo in years but my best friend moved up here a few years a ago and has a season ticket so she suggested going and I though it was a great idea. Funnily enough Chester zoo is located in Chester in the north west of England. Chester is not a very big place and the zoo is located fairly near the centre of town so it is very easy to find and very well sign posted. The zoo was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and is the biggest zoo in the UK. According to their brochure hand out that you receive with your tickets, the park covers 110 acres of gardens, has 7,000 animals and over 400 different species. When we arrived at the zoo it was nice to find that they had free parking. We went on a Sunday and it was quite...

Chester Zoo

Advantages: A great day out for all the Family
Disadvantages: none,(apart from the weather)

...* GETTING THERE?. By road?.. The zoo is easily found in Chester. Along the M56 to Junction 14, (or M53 junction 12) and simply follow the brown zoo signs. The route via the A41 is also clearly signposted. By other means? Chester Railway station is only 2 miles away and the public transport from there is good with most bus routes running every half hour during the season. Please check with local operators. * OPENING TIMES? 7 days per week 10:00-18:00 (including Bank holidays) Peak Season 2008 15/03/2008 - 02/11/2008 Off Peak Season 2008/09 03/11/2008 - 03/04/2009 * PRICES? Adult: £11.95- £14.95 Child: £8.95 - 10.95 Concessions: £9.95 - £13.95 Family (2+2): £38.00 to £49.50 (Prices vary due to season and voluntary donation) *THE ZOO? * BRIEF HISTORY? A Cosy Place To Rest My Head

Advantages: good price, nice place
Disadvantages: -

...I had a week's holiday and decided that for that week I wanted to go somewhere and actually get away even if just in the UK. I decided to go to Chester for a few days as I have never really got to see the town properly and it is a pretty place to visit. I started looking for places to stay on quite a low budget as I didn't have enough to be spending £100 a night. I looked up laterooms.com which came up with a number of options but after narrowing it down judging by price and location, I opted for the Stafford Hotel on City Road as it seemed to be in a quite central location and I wanted something more traditional than the typical Premier Inn or Travelodge. I arrived in Chester as I decided to leave the car behind and travel by rail. I have visited a few times before but normally by car so am not good with the street name around there...

Diamond review  Visiting Chester zoo

Advantages: Fantastic day out with lots to do
Disadvantages: Cannot do everything in one visit

...Firstly let me tell you a bit about Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is run by the North of England Zoological Society which was founded in 1934. The North of England Zoological Society is a registered charity that operates Chester Zoo and also receives Government funding. Chester Zoo is now one of the largest zoos in the UK and employs about 250 permanent staff with about another 150 seasonal workers. Today Chester is more than a Zoo as they are heavily into conservation rather the just having the animals for us to stare at. Chester Zoo covers an area of about 100 acres and was founded in 1930 by George Mottershead. George kept the zoo going during the 2nd World War which was followed by a rapid expansion and the foundations of what Chester zoo is today where laid. Initially the Zoo was well know for the designs of their...

Chester best...

Advantages: Location; giant breakfasts
Disadvantages: Smaller rooms than I was expecting

...We stayed here with the Tesco clubcard scheme last December and thoroughly enjoyed it. HOTEL LOCATION/DESCRIPTION The hotel is located immediately next to the Park & Ride for Chester Centre. This meant that we could leave our car in the hotel car park and walk the 50 metres to the park & ride. What an excellent location - it couldn't be more better placed for visitors to the city - no trying to park in the centre and getting lost! The hotel itself has had a fairly recent renovation and comprises a medium sized car park (I would imagine that it fills up before the hotel does given how busy it was when we arrived) and a stunning front elevation to the hotel. Very modern looking and gives a great first impression. Upon entering the hotel you immediately walk into a large open plan space which comprises a bar; seating area...

Review of Ramada, Chester

The Grosvenor Museum, Chester

Advantages: Free admission, plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Not fully accessible to disabled visitors

...Chester is a city steeped in history that dates back to the Roman times and beyond so it is not surprising to learn that it has a large museum to serve the purpose of showing off its rich heritage. In fact Chester has several different specialised museums like DEWA the Roman museum and the Military Museum but the Grosvenor Museum is by far its largest museum. I suppose that it would be fair to describe the Grosvenor Museum as Chester's general museum. It is housed within an impressive Grade 2 listed building right in the heart of the city centre and since admission is free it's a great starting point for any visitor to the city to learn about its past. It opened in 1886 with its full title that it still holds today, which is rather a mouthful; The Grosvenor Museum of Natural History and Archaeology, with Schools of Science and Art...

Chester

Advantages: Great Torist Attraction
Disadvantages: Isnt One

...too many drinks). The wall, this is worth looking at, but will be bored after five mins, cos hey, once you've seen one wall you've seen them all. Laser Quest - great for kids parties Plane Flights - just outside the city is a place where you can learn to fly, great place but slightly expensive. The North GateArena is the local sports centre. It has all the usual facilities you would expect to find such as swimming pool, gym, squash courts etc. This also has a computer fair, something like every two months. Chester Fc, may not be a premiership team, bout the tickets are cheap, and games are worth watching. Accommodation -------------------- There is quite a lot of places to accommodate you on your visit to Chester, personally I've never slept in one, due to the fact I live there, but a hotel called Grosvenor Pulford Hotel...

Review of Chester (England)

An amazing day out at Chester zoo

Advantages: So much to see and do
Disadvantages: None

...I am very much an animal lover and I've visited many zoo's over the years but Chester zoo was one zoo which I hadn't been to so when we went on holiday to Wales I knew we had to visit. It was about an hours drive away from where we were staying in Wales, there was plenty of sign posts to it so was quite easy to find. We arrived at the zoo at 11am, I would suggest you arrive at the opening time (10am I think) as there is so much to see, the day simply isn't long enough even though it closed at 6pm. It was £16.50 for an adult ticket and about £12 for a child I think during the summer. On arrival there were toilets at the entrance which is fantastic as usually you have to stand and queue for a ticket before searching all over for the toilet. Once paid they give you a map of the zoo and a sheet which has all the times...
