Pop a Cork! - Cork International Airport Hotel

Advantages: Unique, Extremely Comfortable, Location, New build, Service
Disadvantages: Maybe a little pricey

...OVERVIEW If you are considering a trip to Ireland, one of the most popular areas to visit is around Cork. Although I've been to Ireland almost annually since a child, I'd never visited Cork until this year. The area differs enormously from the West Coast, in that there are more rolling hills, arable farming and very reminiscent of Cornwall or Devon. On my travels I always like to stay in nice hotels, well at least the best that I can afford, and that usually entails trawling through the various travel booking engines to see which is offering the best deal. I tend to find that the airport hotels are usually slightly cheaper than those in the centre of town, and for me there is the added bonus that I can do a bit of plane spotting and photography as well!! When booking my recent trip I came across the Cork International Airport...

Review of Cork International Airport Hotel

Where Cork grows on trees

Advantages: fantastic area to visit
Disadvantages: none

...visited is the Sierra de Grazalema If you wish to know what flora and fauna there is in these parks go to http://www.andalusia-web.com/natureparksdetails.htm there are descriptions of the parks and lists of birds there better than I could provide. This area of cork woods is inland of Malaga and Granada so if you are visiting the coastal areas of Spain and wish to go inland for a day it is well worth it. Before we go on holiday we always investigate by looking for good websites one is http://jellymail.net/Andalucia%20Wildlife.htm Then there's http://www.slowtrav.com/gmaps/viewmaptext.asp?map=15 . There is a fair map of the area at http://www.slowtrav.com/gmaps/viewmaptext.asp?map=15 There is some concerns that because plastic corks and stoppers are now being used for wine that the cork forests will not become necessary so...

Review of Cork Woods of Andalucia

I didn't see no silver springs but, I did find a good bed!

Advantages: Comfortable beds, decor, staff
Disadvantages: Location may not be suitable for everyone

...I stayed at the Silver springs hotel during at the end of April 2009 during a work trip - the hotel is a 4* property that is located in Cork and is literally on the outskirts of the city centre as you come of the main road leading into Cork. It is a fairly large hotel for it's location with plenty of facilities and I was looking forward to experiencing his hotel. First impressions: As you come down the main road from Cork airport the hotel is located on the right hand side. However to get to it you must take the exit to the left hand side which takes you over the bridge and across to the hotel. This is because the hotel is built on a slight hill. So as you first spot the hotel it actually looks quite impressive and also quite modern looking with the building of a grey colour which sounds drab but, it isn't! The car park is spread...

Diamond review  How to have a Corking time.....

Advantages: You need never have a boring moment...
Disadvantages: I'm not there to show you around

.... DAY1 - Monday So you have arrived, tired, dusty, thirsty and all you want is a pint and a munch. Booked nowhere to stay? Silly person! but never mind, I have some recommendations for you; ACCOMMODATION: So where to stay. We have 3 options for you.... In need of a bit of LUXERY?: Try: http://www.viennawoodshotel.com/ Rates per night per room: From ? 100 or ?110 family room (2 children limit per room) This hotel was originally an 18th Century country house. It is set in 20 acres of mature woodland 15 minutes walk from Cork City centre. There is a warm and friendly atmosphere, as has everywhere in Cork truth be told, excellent food and gorgeous grounds. Your mission for your first day is to enjoy one of their sumptuous roast dinners, wash it down with a few glasses of Murphy?s (the local stout) and stroll around the grounds...

Review of Cork City (Ireland)

Cork City and Youghal

Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: It's too hard to leave!

...and choose your own favourite! The Irish are safe drivers too. Again, like Cork City Youghal is an expensive place -this of course depends on how much alcohol you like to consume and the sort of places you'd like to eat - but worth every penny and minute you spend there! Fantastic place - might see yas there! I'll finish with some silly things that may come in useful. *Ireland are now using the Euro currency, this changed from the Irish pound only a couple of years ago. *The plug sockets are the three pin ones like in England (may seem obvious but silly me took loads of them adapter things the first time I went! *The film Moby Dick was set at the Moby Dick pub in Youghal. *Sir Walter Raleigh was the first mayor in the town, there is The Walter Raleigh hotel in Youghal today. * Cork airport is a nice hassle free...

Just Corking

Advantages: Plenty to see and do, cheap accomodation
Disadvantages: Rather touristy, not suited to people wanting to 'get away from it all'

...Our first thought as we arrived in Cork was “Oh my god, we’re back in Dublin!” Having slept most of the stretch from Cahir to Cork we were worried for a minute that we’d hopped on the wrong bus – the river running through the town centre complete with periodic bridges, the ‘Centra Quick Stop’ on every second corner and the slightly crumbly stone houses did seem almost uncannily familiar. But no – we were in the right place after all. As the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland, Cork is quite a buzzing place, full of old buildings, churches, shopping centres, pubs and, of course, tourists. On arrival, we hefted our backpacks and began to follow my hastily scribbled directions for the ‘Sheila’s of Cork’ hostel. Only about 10 minutes walk from the bus stop...

Review of Cork City (Ireland)

Jury's inn hotel

Advantages: close to city centre
Disadvantages: shower in bathroom hard to turn off and on

...cans on one, snacks on another etc) The hotel has two places to eat the main restaurant and the bar area which offers 'pub food'. The bar is cheaper and the food was good for the price. The cheapest on the menu was ?11.95. On my first night I ate in the bar area and had the chicken tika. Although this may not have been the chicken tika most Brits would expect it was excellent. The drawback is that the hotel does not offer room service. There is also a coffee bar which serves tea/coffee and a selection of pastries up until the bar closes at 1am. As the hotel is in Ireland naturally there is no smoking in any of the public areas of the hotel. As I am a non-smoker I did not ask about whether there was an option of a 'smoking' bedroom. As for the local area Cork is a quiet city and has some good restaurants. One to avoid in my...

Review of Jurys Inn, Cork

Luxury by the water

Advantages: Great location, car parking, leisure facilities
Disadvantages: A little too stuffy

...Stayed in this hotel in the run up to Christmas for a weekend and was impressed overall. I am unable to give an indication of price per room per nite unfortunately as we were upgraded, happy days, to a very impressive hotel at no extra cost, but this is definitely priced at the top end of the market. The reception is luxuriously decorated with extremely helpful staff, who were more than willing to point us in the direction of the nightlife and shopping areas which are simply a 5 minute stroll away. The location of this hotel is great because you are just on the periphery of this area meaning you get an enjoyable rest if you want to get away from it all. Food in the hotel was of the highest standard. Meals are available by booking into the restaurant or by simply sitting in the bar, where you don't need to book in advance...

The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...
