A little bit about Leipzig Forming part of the Former East Germany, Leipzig is a city of transformation. Although 500 years old, the biggest changes seem to have been happening in the past 15 years. It has seen a lot of the architecture associated with communism removed, while much of it's heritage is refurbished and transformed. There are still elements of communism and those times remaining, strangely one of the sites is opposite to the Marriott hotel! Disadvantages: Limited "old town", some may find it lacking vitality

A Little Piece of Germany in West Yorkshire

Advantages: Close to city centre and cathedral, work a quick visit
Disadvantages: Would be nice to have some bars/cafes

..."Little Germany" is the name given to an area of Bradford city centre near the cathedral in which a good number of German merchants lived and did business in the nineteenth century. These successful businessmen prospered in Bradford and built a number of rather impressive warehouses for their businesses ? primarily within the textile trade.   A Rat-Infested Town in Germany

The Hotel Traube was not actually our destination, although for reasons that will become clear later, possibly we were left wishing that it had have been! Being 1st October, with the days already rapidly shortening, I did not wish to drive all the way from our home in Brighton to Brienz (our final destination) in Switzerland in one day. Compared to our marathon drives to Poland, both in the summer and at Christmas, you may be asking why we "chickened out" and stopped barely an hour's drive north of the Swiss border. Wunderbar Hamburg Germany

Advantages: Great lively city; great sights!!
Disadvantages: None really!

...around The German train and underground system consisting of the S Bahn, U bahn etc is very efficient and cost effective with a day ticket for a family costing less than £10 and allowing unlimited usage of the train system. Trains run every few minutes to most locations and map are available at all stations and shops etc. It's a colour coded system that is very easy, clean and safe to use. Taxis are cheap and efficient in Hamburg although many taxi drivers don't speak English so grab a cab from your hotel where staff can direct the driver saving you a job! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anything else?? Tipping staff is not that common or excepted in Germany but is very appreciated by hotel and waiting staff: don't feel the need to go OTT however! Most Germans speak English very well but a few words of German are also very useful...

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

...I have just been on a day trip to the Serengeti Safari Park in Hodenhagen, Germany with my lovely husband and 2 hyperactive children (aged 4 and almost 2). It was a trip for all of the people who work in hubby's office but it was not a group excursion as such - we paid for ourselves. ...I'm glad that I did not get to read any of the reviews before I went to this hotel, or see the Holidays from Hell programme the night before! The hotel can be found along the seafront, about three miles from the main centre of Blackpool, heading out towards Fleetwood. It is now under the Britannia hotels group and it is easily accessible by tram and bus. We used the trams the whole time instead of me driving all the time. My husband, my two youngest children and myself went last week for a couple of nights, after finding an advert which gave a special price of £35 per person dinner bed and breakfast per night. The two children were included free of charge, including their meals. The advert did state that the hotel was ungoing a £7million pound upgrade, and that some services may not be available.
