Weekend break at the Hampshire

...I recently stayed at the Hampshire for 2 nights during a theatre trip with my partner. As a treat I booked a junior suite (through radissonedwardian.com). At a nightly rate of £261 (ex. VAT) it was not cheap, but we were rewarded with a wonderful room right at the heart of Leicester Square with a very comfy king size bed, leather sofa, mini bar, marble bathroom with seperate toilet cubicle, shower, bath, and double wash basins. It was spacious, spotless, and with a great view of the Square (from the 4th floor). Hotel staff were friendly and courteous, and service prompt, professional, unfussy, and discreet. Our bags were carried to the room without hesitation. We took breakfast in the room and even though we were told to allow a half hour 'window', it still arrived exactly at the stated time. There are numerous attractions near to Alresford including National Trust properties such as Hinton Ampner The Watercress Line is a steam railway that runs the 10 miles from Alresford to Alton through the beautiful Hampshire countryside it's a fun day out and they often have special events like Thomas the Tank Engine days for children or "war on the line" events where people appear all over Alresford dressed in various historical military uniforms (which is always a bit confusing at first!). ---Accommodation-------- There is a mixture of hotels and B&Bs in Alresford although nothing at the really luxurious end. The two main hotels (The Bell and The Swan) charge around £80 per room per night B&B and the average price of a B&B is about £50. The Strand Palace Hotel

...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. New Hampshire is so similar to England.

Advantages: Seeing family, and sharing quality time.
Disadvantages: Can be very cold in the winter months.

Perfect weather for me, a Floridian with an English accent, who just loves hot weather, and the last one in July of this year for Len's grand-daughter's wedding.. However, we did fly up one March to drive a vehicle back to Florida. We stayed overnight and it was freezing. Len's daughter even got me to take a ride in her open top porsche. I had a thick ski jacket, scarf, leather gloves etc. and the heating on full blast. If you like winter sports, then this could be a great time for you.
