The Hampshire Hotel

Advantages: Lobby
Disadvantages: Small room, overpriced, rude staff, billing errors

...THE HAMPSHIRE HOTEL – 47th STREET –NYC Amidst the hustle and bustle of 47th street you will find the glass doors of THE HAMPSHIRE HOTEL. Pull them open, step inside and you will go, “AH”! A breathtaking chandelier, marble galore and a plush seating area will catch your fancy. Walk to the front desk to check-in and all the ambiance and magic of the grand entrance will be tarnished. A rude employee will tell you to just take a seat and wait. As you wait, (tired from your travels and anxious to freshen-up) for 10, 15, 20 minutes you will become increasing agitated. Periodic trips to the front desk will be to no avail. Again and again you will hear --- “just sit and wait”. Finally, when your turn arrives, as if at a deli counter with a number, you will receive no assistance. Carry your luggage...

Booking accomodation for a reasonable price

Advantages: easy to navigate and to book, don't charge anything, good prices
Disadvantages: none

...I used www.booking.com about 10 times in the last 5 years. We were in Prague, London, Strasbourg, Paris, Bourges, Nice, Orleans, Lido di Jesolo (some places for multiple plies). We booked our accommodation for our honeymoon as well via booking.com. The site When you click on http://www.booking.com you can see an orange rectangular panel. You have to fill the destination and the checking in and checking out dates. Press the Search button. Then if you wrote a large city like Paris there are some choices you can select from. There are the airports, so if you want a hotel near the CDG you have to click on the link they provided. After you decided which location is appropriate to you there will be a list of hotels. You can sort the hotels by stars, popularity, price for single room, price for double room and best rated by... ...all...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.

Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers? I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

Weekend break at the Hampshire

Advantages: Complete luxury in the most central London location
Disadvantages: £600+ final bill

...I recently stayed at the Hampshire for 2 nights during a theatre trip with my partner. As a treat I booked a junior suite (through radissonedwardian.com). At a nightly rate of £261 (ex. VAT) it was not cheap, but we were rewarded with a wonderful room right at the heart of Leicester Square with a very comfy king size bed, leather sofa, mini bar, marble bathroom with seperate toilet cubicle, shower, bath, and double wash basins. It was spacious, spotless, and with a great view of the Square (from the 4th floor). Hotel staff were friendly and courteous, and service prompt, professional, unfussy, and discreet. Our bags were carried to the room without hesitation. We took breakfast in the room and even though we were told to allow a half hour 'window', it still arrived exactly at the stated time. There was far to much food though. I...

Turning 25 in style ?

Advantages: Free minibar, nice room and bathroom, tram stop right outisde
Disadvantages: Too pricey for me, not so central, not so special

...romantic enough to go with my boyfriend in the winter. Next step was booking the hotel. I must say, I don?t normally mind about accommodation, I feel comfortable nearly anywhere, but this time, I wanted to treat myself. Unfortunately, I soon found out that Amsterdam is a really pricey place when it comes to hotel stays, and I was going to have to spend a lot of money to keep away from a shabby room in the red light district. I was going to settle for a basic double room in the centre for 105 Euros a night (breakfast not included) when I came across the Savoy Hotel Amsterdam. The price was only al little bit more, and included a lot of extras. I decided to book us in for the week end. Unfortunately, as I booked our double room and changed the number of guests to 2, the price went up to 294 Euros for 2 nights. More than I wanted to pay, but it...

Booking.com Dishonest Thieves !

Advantages: A fast way to loose money
Disadvantages: You get to pay for a service that you never use

...I recently made a booking through booking.com, a reservation which was cancelled via a communication with the hotel, I was informed that I would not be billed. Much to my astonishment I was billed for a room in which I did not stay. A phenomenon otherwise known as stealing! I have endeavoured to resolve this problem directly with the hotel, as advised in the first instance by the unhelpful staff at booking.com after having been billed. I was then shouted at by the hotel representative and told to deal with booking.com. Guess what ? They passed the buck and told me to call back the hotel. I give up, but will do my best to share my experiences with both the Eurohotel Sovereign at Saint Denis Basilique, Paris France and Booking.com with the wider public. It sure is infuriating to be robbed like that. The address given for that particular...

Booking with opodo.co.uk - worst support I have seen before and o

Advantages: Hotels were booked
Disadvantages: disgusting customer support, unexpected charges at hotel check-in

...On this spring I?ve booked two hotels in Egypt with opodo.co.uk. I have mixed fillings about this booking system. First of all I want to mention that they have disgusting customer support. For any enquires that were sent using their web site, they have provided answers more than one week later or haven?t provided it at all. Also it is practically impossible to get answer for calls on the customer support phone number specified. All their phone lines are busy. You should be ready to listen for music during very long time if you will try to call them. Moreover they even don?t have 24 hours customer support, so if you going to check-in to hotel at night, and you will have some problems with you reservation, you will be single-handedly with it. Just for comparison, I receive answer for any my question that was asked using a form...

The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'

Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times

...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels. First impressions: You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! As soon as you walk through the door...

Georgian Market Town in Hampshire

Advantages: Pretty Market Town
Disadvantages: House prices!

...Alresford Pond. There are numerous attractions near to Alresford including National Trust properties such as Hinton Ampner The Watercress Line is a steam railway that runs the 10 miles from Alresford to Alton through the beautiful Hampshire countryside it's a fun day out and they often have special events like Thomas the Tank Engine days for children or "war on the line" events where people appear all over Alresford dressed in various historical military uniforms (which is always a bit confusing at first!). ---Accommodation-------- There is a mixture of hotels and B&Bs in Alresford although nothing at the really luxurious end. The two main hotels (The Bell and The Swan) charge around £80 per room per night B&B and the average price of a B&B is about £50. Winchester has a wider selection of hotels and B&Bs and campsites - caravans and motor...

The worst hotel in the UK? Possibly.

Advantages: A bed and a roof.
Disadvantages: Where do I start?

...degrees sun, carrying our heavy bags, so walked straight up to the next place with a vacancy sign. This was the private Tyrella hotel, a three storey Georgian white house, 5 minutes from the beach. The basement was an Indian restaurant which looked quite trendy. After ringing the bell several times, we were greeted by an unenthusiastic man with no shoes on who carried a distinctive whiff of curry and sweat about him. Several small children scurried at his feet. He appeared to have a very poor grasp of the English language and the displayed prices mysteriously increased. Any normal person would have major alarm bells ringing by now and would have politely declined, but who said we were normal, and besides, we were desperate. So up we went to view our room, which he told us was "family room. Very nice. See sea". On going up the stairs...
