the Huddersfield Hotel
Advantages: near to town
Disadvantages: see below
...We arrived at the hotel to friendly if a little bit sweaty reception staff, we were told we would have to pay cash for our room as the card machines were out of order and parking was across the road at a small busy pay at meter car park. Our room was on the 2nd floor at the front of the hotel, the stairways and corridors to our room were grubby and in dire need of refurbishment, the door to our room was very tatty, we went in with some trepidation, by this time we didn't expect much and we were not dissapointed, the room was very dated, grubby carpets, polystyrene tiles on the ceiling, which were very stained, wallpaper peeling and old furniture, the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned, the taps and plugholes were rusty and there was a big puddle on the floor, we overlooked a strip club and a busy road and there was a lot...

Cedar Court left me wanting more!
Advantages: Close to M62. Wide range of facilities.
Disadvantages: Robotic staff, boring rooms. Testosterone fueled bar.
...Work can require me to visit the lovely world of West Yorkshire from time to time and the closest hotel to my office, happens to be the Cedar Court Huddersfield. I have stayed there once but wouldn?t rush back. The only thing going for it in my opinion is the closeness to the M62 and the cheap corporate rate!
Arrival
The hotel is situated just off the M62 at Ainley Top making it handy for the local road links. There is an abundance of on-site car parking which is free for residents and at night there is a security guard outside throughout the darker hours to help keep your car safe.
Check In
Check in was straightforward if a little robotic. We were processed through, credit cards swiped and then given the key to our rooms. This key was extremely retro and of a large size making it difficult to keep in your pocket and felt more like you...

Ainley Where?
Advantages: Easily accessible from the motorway network, wireless internet access, good food
Disadvantages: Quite a way from the city centre
...When travelling on business, I often decide where I want to stay, rather than seeing what is available, then set about finding the best rate I can for the chosen accommodation. It doesn't always work out, and on this occasion I was getting very nervous that things were not going to go to plan, and then 6 days before my due travel dates, Laterooms came up trumps.
For anyone who has ever had the pleasure to visit Huddersfield, which despite many people's reactions, actually seems like quite a pleasant city with good education and shopping facilities, what it doesn't offer is many high quality hotels, at least, not that I have been able to find.
***LOCATION***
The Cedar Court Hotel, is a privately owned outlet, formerly owned by the Hilton Chain, is situated at Ainley Top, a short distance from junction 24 of the M62, and a few...

Huddersfield Uni!
Advantages: Relaxed, willing to take almost anyone
Disadvantages: shorter holidays than most unis
...Ive lived in huddersfield all my life, but i didnt plan on coming to the uni, originally i wanted to go away, as far away from home as possible!, but certain circumstances made it so that it was in my best interests to stay at home. Because the uni is so massive and there are so many aspects to it, i cant tell you about every single thing, but i can tell you about my own experience and i hope that its helpful!
I study Behavioural Sciences BSc, Im currently in my second year, its a great course and it combines psychology with sociology. My experience of the staff is good experience. Theyre all very friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The university offers a wide range of degree subjects and qualifications, prospectuses can be recieved through the post, upon request if you visit www.hud.ac.uk
I chose to live...

Pizza Hut (esp Huddersfield Branch)
Advantages: Not Many
Disadvantages: Expensive, Service can be poor, some branches are a mess
...Ive been a customer of Pizza Hut for several years, when I was younger it was an extra special treat if mum took me and my sister to the hut for dinner. I went on my 13th birthday, I went when I went to see Take That in Manchester, believe it or not, its where me and my partner went to celebrate our 1 year anniversary (why am I with him again?) And more recently, I went last night. Well never again!
There are two branches in Huddersfield, one in the town centre (the road name escapes me) and one next to the McAlpine stadium, where Huddersfield Town lose all their matches.
I visited the town centre branch with three friends, and between us the bill came to just over £41, we had a large pizza with two extra toppings (meat feast with chilli and pineapple), a medium pizza (cheese feast with cajun chicken and spicy pork), 4 pepsi...

Huddersfield uni *UPDATED*
Advantages: Good facilities, wide range of courses
Disadvantages: Big so you can get lost, bad reputation
...I started Huddersfield University in September 2005 so i am now getting to know the uni quite well even though it is huge!
The university is positioned on the ring road, adjacent to the town centre. If you were going there by train I'd say it's approximately a ten-minute walk from the station, or by bus about a 5-minute walk. If you want to drive to the University, parking can be a problem. There's is car parks in the town centre, such as the Queensgate multi-storey car park which is near to the Uni. But its 70p an hour so if your there every day, 5 days a week it does become expensive. There is parking facilities on the the 'Queensgate Campus' but these spaces are extremely limited and are not available to students unless they have a disability in which case, arrangements are made.
The university runs hundreds of different...

The Strand Palace Hotel
Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms
...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

This is a guide to restaurants in huddersfield
Advantages: range of restaurants, decent prices
Disadvantages: there are only so many to visit
...There are actually a large variety of foods available in Huddersfield yet is often hard to know where to go, in this review I will be giving you my opinion on the selection of restaurants I have recently dined in and hopefully giving you a helpful insight into the social side of Huddersfield town.
Along Viaduct street, not far from the train station, is a selection of restaurant, all offering different foods from around the world. Here you will find Cibo and Gringos, both in possesion by the same owner. I have eaten at both and was most impressed with Cibos. This small restaurant offers italian food and houses a modern, hip and simplistic decor that makes you feel comfortable. The use of bare brick along with the warm red tones and blue lights give a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly and the prices are bearable...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.
Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.
...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers?
I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer.
I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...
