royal station hotel

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: --

...****Royal Station Hotel-Newcastle**** Initially my friend and i booked into a Travelodge but we decided very quickly that we needed another hotel and this is the one we ended up staying in. **Location/Getting there** This hotel is located right next to the train station which is fantastic, nothing worse than a long journey followed by having to find a hotel. There is loads of places to eat nearby, plenty to see and do.The bus station is also quite nearby and would take about 10 minutes to walk too. **Reception/staff** The hotel looks really nice from the outside-a grand looking building.Reception looks really nice with big chandlers hanging from the ceiling and there are two lifts.Staff were nice and i had the option of paying straight away or when i checked out. **Hotel/Room** The room i stayed in was a twin room and it had...

The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'

Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times

...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels. First impressions: You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! As soon as you walk through the door...

Choose Newcastle!!!!!!!!

Advantages: Read on and find out.
Disadvantages: It is a long way from the rest of the country.....

...I have now been a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology at the University of Newcastle for the last two years and within this review I am going to sell you the virtues of coming here (mostly)..... So if you're interested please do read on! ***The University*** >>>>>General Info Newcastle is an old red brick University and consequently it has some of those old beautiful red brick parts that they just don't build anymore (this is where you will find architecture and the buisness school). It has a fabulous reputation and I can vouch for this personally, I think it is just great. Things round here are also changing fast, just in the last couple of years that I have been here they have built a brand new very funky looking Georgraphy department and the Northern Institute for Cancer Resarch. Things are changing fast...

A Very Glassy (sic) Hotel!

Advantages: Very convenient location; extremely comfortable hotel.
Disadvantages: If I MUST find one, it would be that we had to ask three times for a cot. Otherwise, tickety-boo in all respects.

...Having recently visited Amanda?s parents in Scotland, we decided to split up the return journey by stopping off in Newcastle ? it?s a very long drive otherwise and, whilst not exactly halfway distance-wise, it actually made an excellent stop-off point. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, in the North East of England, has heaps going for it and Amanda found herself in shoppers? heaven at the adjacent Metrocentre shopping mall. Baby Josh didn?t do too badly out of the deal either, leaving with bags full of goodies from the ?Warner Bros? store and ?Toys R Us?. Having selected Newcastle as our destination, I decided to book via ?Priceline?. To be honest, I?m something of a Hilton fan and I knew that Hilton had just opened a brand new hotel in Newcastle, which I was very keen to try. With ?Priceline?, however, the luxury of choice is denied and you have...

Newcastle

Advantages: The nightlife, the shopping, everything!!
Disadvantages: None!! A weekend prob isnt long enough!

...on a Thursday night, the night "Lovedough" is RnB and gets quite busy, but is a good night out if ur into RnB.. If you must go out on Friday or Saturday night I would recommend the Gat (see above) after a film or a meal, or the Trendy Osborne Road, in Jesmond. This is a really lovely suburb, where there is always a good mix of students and proffessionals, the bars are all really smart, and there are a few reastaurants here too. Bars include the always busy Osbornes, Spy, Bilabong, and Barlise. This would also be a good place to stay if you are visiting Newcaslte, as there are a number of nice hotels on Osborne Road (there are also loads of hotels in the town and on the Quayside). The bars around Newcastle's central station are also good; upmarket and stylish bars include The Centurian, Destination, The Lounge, The Long Bar, and Revolution (a...

What have they got up their slieve?!

Advantages: Fabulous location
Disadvantages: ?!!!!!!!!!!

...The Slieve Donard Hotel Resort & Spa ***** Newcastle, County Down The Slieve Donard Hotel and Spa is an historic Northern Ireland Hotel situated in Newcastle, County Down, in the southeast of the province, in very dramatic and beautiful settings. The hotel is situated on the coast of the Irish Sea on the shores of Newcastle Bay facing south to the Mountains of Mourne, with fabulous views across Royal County Down golf course to the north. Belfast International Airport is approximately a 1-hour transfer from the hotel and Belfast City Airport is approximately 45-minutes transfer from the hotel, but timings depend entirely upon the day of the week and timing. Our transfer from the Slieve Donard back to Belfast City Airport was from circa 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and only took 45-minutes as traffic was not at it's peak...

Could do better in central Newcastle

Advantages: Location is prime
Disadvantages: facilities, food, better value found elsewhere

...I stayed at this hotel in April 2007 having found it on LateRooms.com and me and my girlfriend paid a total of £89 for one nights stay in a standard double room. We arrived mid afternoon and we glad of the location - the building seems part of the station! The interior was impressive with clean carpets and a grand looking chandalier (probably not real). The check in staff were friendly and helpful. I think the best compliment you can give about your check in is if you don't remember it! So we were checked in quickly and off we went to our rooms. The corridors I have to say did not impress me and at times I could definitely tell that this place was built in the 1800's. By the time we reached the room though it was all ok. Room was standard fare, TV, Phone, Desk & chair, tea/coffee facilities and a fridge. I wasn't overwhelmed by...

Newcastle Castle

Advantages: Quiet, as nobody seems to know it is there. Supports the Society of Antiquaries.
Disadvantages: Lots of steps and uneven ground. No toilets on site.

...Strange as it may be, it seems many people in Newcastle don't actually realise that the city has a castle. But then, I expect that quite a few of you who have never been to the city are a bit surprised that there is still one as well. When I mentioned to people that I had been to the castle keep, I tended to get blank stares, puzzled looks or suggestions that in fact I meant Alnwick castle - but there is actually the remains of a castle in the heart of the city. To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there was a castle either until we were taken there on a field visit just before last Easter. And that is after 6 months of living in the city as a heritage student I might add. So, I think it is fair to say that the keep is something of a well-kept secret. I find it odd that the Society of Antiquaries who run the site don't advertise it...

Newcastle Attractions

Advantages: Lively, cosmopolitan city surrounded by stunning countryside and coast.
Disadvantages: None really - something for everyone - but wrap up outdoors!

...and this is saluted by a Red Arrow flyover. There are some terrific places to eat and drink including Unos, La Tasca (tapas bar) , The Slug and Lettuce Bistro, The Pitcher and Piano and Est, Est Est as well as many others. The Old Cooperage pub is worth a visit and there are also several nightclubs by the Quayside. The Quayside area is well served by hotels including Malmaison, The Copthorne and The Hilton. Grey Street has been voted one of the most attractive streets in England and a stroll up it from the river will lead to a huge variety of shops. Newcastle is a vibrant university town and of course there is the football! A short way out of the city will lead you to the stunning coastline, from Tynemouth up to the Scottish Borders which boasts magnificent castles and fabulous coastline. Tynemouth hosts an extremely popular flea...

MALMAISON NEWCASTLE - LE PETITE SPA

Advantages: Far too many to mention here!
Disadvantages: None, only that I would have likes to set up camp there!

...***This is a review only of the Spa facilities at Malmaison Newcastle, which can be used by hotel guests or visitors. As we did not stay overnight here, I cannot comment on the rest of the hotel, though everything we say and experienced was exquisite, and I would definately stay at one of their sister hotels if I am travelling away from Newcastle*** Having recently suffered from a bout of depression that left me feeling pretty rough, I decided to treat myself and my best friend to an afternoon being pampered at Newcastle's Malmaison. Their Petite Spa had just been refurbished, and so I decided this was the place to go. My friend flew up from London and we had lunch on Newcastle's Quay-Side, visited The Baltic Art Gallery, and headed over to Malmaison for our 5pm appointment. There are lots of treatments to choose from, ranging...
