Luigi's Mansion - Leicester Stylee
Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Feels like Luigi's Mansion
...The Ramada Harvis Hotel in Leicester (formerly The Grand) sits in the centre of the city, right in the middle of the main shopping high street. The hotel is approximately ten minutes? walk from the railway station and is close to many of the city centre bus services. I was brought to the city on business, at a call centre about fifteen minutes? away, but the hotel is well-placed for any visitor the city. The hotel offers limited, complementary parking but do check this when you book. As I was unfamiliar with the area, I asked a couple of local colleagues where the hotel was, and they referred to it only as The Grand. Bear this in mind if you are asking for directions, as the Ramada Jarvis name tag does not seem to have been adopted by the locals yet.
RECEPTION AND ARRIVAL
The main entrance to the hotel opens straight out onto...

Leicester Hilton-a grand place to say
Advantages: nice modern hotel, not far from Leicester
Disadvantages: not the cheepest hotel, rediculously priced interne access
...We stayed at the Hilton hotel in Leicester as we fancied a night away from home. There was no particular reason for choosing this particular hotel, we just thought why not. The hotel is located three miles from Leicester city centre. It is just off junction 21of the M1. It is 25 minutes from Nottingham East Midlands Airport. Check in is from 3pm and checkout is 12pm.
There is parking at the hotel, which costs £5 per night. In every room, there is internet access which costs £15 per night-way beyond expensive if you ask me!There is a business centre, with 10 meeting room, which can accomdate from 2 to 150 people. The hotel is 100% non smoking. There is on restaurat, one bar and a health club (its free to use for hotel guests) which also has a swimming pool.
A double room will set you back £129 per night, which doesnt include...

Prosperous Leicester
Advantages: Well planned, Prosperous. Good sports facilities
Disadvantages: Air of complacency
....
The city is home to the well rated University of Leicester, where the National Space Centre is being built as a Millennium project, and to the de Montfort University.
The Midlands city is well endowed with good quality hotels,it receives a lot of business visitors, comfortable guest houses and homely bed and breakfast places. I taught for several years at an associate college of Leicester University and one of the great pleasures of my frequent trips to the city, was dining out.For a city of its size,Leicester has numerous good restaurants and,in particular, there are some marvellous Indian restaurants, whose sternest judges are the local Indians themselves.
There are discos and night clubs in town and a number of interesting, congenial, pubs to savour. Whilst Leicester would not rank as a must-see spot for leisure tourists,it is a pleasant...

Bella Italia: Luglio, Leicester
Advantages: Lovely food and good prices in nice surroundings
Disadvantages: Not much of a special pudding menu
...There are only 3 places in the UK where I have had many restaurant meals, St Annes and Manchester where I grew up and now live, respectively, and Leicester where my sister has whiled away her undergrad, PhD and Rocket Scientist days. With Italian as my favourite fare it's not surprising that I have dined in most of the establishments of this kind in the 3 places, often several times, and Zizzi's is no exception.
I like Leicester because it's that tiny bit smaller than Manchester - while I have to trek out of the centre to find a good selection of restaurants, and parks for that matter, my sister can literally be shopping one minute and dining the next, followed by a 10 minute walk across some greenery to home. Zizzi's is in the centre, close to the railway station and situated on Belvoir St, which, despite no-one comprehending why, is...

Alliance and Leicester the worlds most OBNOXIOUS bank !!!!!!!
Advantages: Rates
Disadvantages: UNPROFESSIONAL, OBNOXIOUS, ATTITUDE,
...Well having banked with one of the major banks for a very long time I decided to look around to see if there was any other banking facilities where I would be better off.
I had seen the Alliance and Leicester Premier Account and thought that it looked very competitive and that could be worth making the switch. How WRONG was I !!
I applied over the telephone and was told that everything was ok and ready to roll. Just one stipulation was that in order to match my current over draft facility (£2000) I would need to send a copy of ONE of my current bank statements. No problem I though as my overdraft facility was balanced at zero anyway. The account was processed within minutes. I chose not to take the credit card that comes with the account as I didn't want one.
Once all the information had come through (on a Saturday) I...

University of Leicester 2007
Advantages: Friendly people, laid back attitude, academic, social scene
Disadvantages: distance of university to halls, the locals
...I have just finished my 'freshers' year at the university of Leicester; and i have to say it has been the best year of my life.
The university campus is set about a mile or so out of town, next to Victoria Park and the nearby shopping area of Queen Road. I would say it is a medium sized campus which makes it extremely easy to find your place and feel comfortable when you first start. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from one side of the campus to the other. Another plus to the size is that you always see familiar faces. The student population is varied, with quite a lot of international students either here full time or on an erasmus scheme.
To the left of the campus is the more picturesque, with attractive older buildings and plenty of greenery. The other side is less pretty and is mainly comprised with 50's style blocks...

Basically Leicester.
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
...-> In general
Leicester holds a very cosmopolitan atmosphere and in general is a relaxed place to dwell. There are things to do there to suit everyone’s interests. The main qualm about Leicester is the fact that it does always seem to rain, guess that’s just Britain for you!
-> Eating out
Finding somewhere to eat in Leicester is never a problem, so long as you like curry. Not really only joking! Leicester has a curry house for everyday of the year and there are some damn fine ones too! I’d recommend the Spice Garden located on Upperton Road (Off Narborough Road aka ‘Student Land’). The are many pubs in the town center that offer all day food. With there being two universities (Leicester uni and De Montfort uni) there is good competition among the pubs for special offers on food and drink...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

A little place in Leicester.
Advantages: Close to band, good sound, some up and coming acts.
Disadvantages: Sound desk in the middle of the room!!
...Princess Charlotte - Leicester.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I was originally going to write this for my 50th op, but obviously other things came to mind and it has slipped back a little.
I wanted one of my landmark ops to be about my home town, and the place I spent a lot of time during my late teens.
SO HERE IS MY 60TH OP!
The Princess Charlotte is a small little indie rock music venue, in Leicester.
As anyone that has read any of my music ops will know I tend to enjoy my punk and indie rock genres.
This place caters for most styles of rock music, ranging from poppy types all the way through to thrashy industrial death metal.
LOCATION.
^^^^^^^^^
Firstly before I say anything about the club/venue, I really should let you into a bit of information about the general area.
We are dead centre of the country, in...

...****Sachas hotel- Manchester****
I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre.
**Location/Getting there**
This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that bad .You can also get a tram from Piccadily gardens and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car.
**Reception/staff**
Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same...
