Hilton, Maidstone - A Good Option
Advantages: Location, quality of staff
Disadvantages: Not close to town centre
...Reasons for choosing this hotel:
We've stayed here before and the position is good for us when visiting friends and family, being just off the M20 Motorway at Junction 7, approximately 4 miles from Maidstone town centre.
I could have used a cheaper hotel (there is an Innkeepers Lodge and a few Premier Travel Inns locally) but as a member of the Hilton loyalty scheme which allows you to "double dip" and not only earn Hilton points, but also points for your chosen Airline rewards programme at the same time, it is a good option for me, so I checked online on Boxing Day for a 1 night stay on 27th December.
Booking:
The Hilton website, whilst not the most exciting in the world, is easy to navigate - if you know which hotel you want to stay at , you can use the option on the left hand side of the home page or, if not, the locate...

Hotel fit for a King!
Advantages: Beautiful, family-run B&B style hotel
Disadvantages: Not very disabled-friendly.
...Hello all, I stayed in this hotel a year or so ago, when I visited Maidstone for a friends birthday knees up! I saw that it hadn't had a review written about it so I thought I'd share my experiences here and hopefully persuade a few more people to go there because it really is a lovely place to stay!
It's one of the very few, if not the only, hotel set actually in Maidstone City Centre, and you'd expect it to be really busy and bustling but it wasn't. It was so quiet and peaceful and relaxed. I really enjoyed staying here, my only regret is that I only stayed one evening!
The owners are so lovely and are there 24/7 or so it seemed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They were so friendly, I couldn't have asked for a better service from them!
The hotel was originally built as a rectory in 1802, and they've tried to...

A Maidstone miscellany - with answers
Advantages: A practical, pleasant and prosperous town
Disadvantages: But short on character and maybe even charm
...This review was originally written as a guide to Ciao members about to attend a get-together in the town of Maidstone. As a town to live in it has numerous advantages, but I find it hard to defend it against the charge of being a bit dull. Holding the Ciao Meet there was one minor attempt to liven it up. A more desperate attempt still is to be found at the end of this review, in the form of a little quiz which attendees were invited to complete, with prizes for the best entries. The answers to the quiz and the prize-winners are now shown below.
I must confess to having rather mixed feelings about Maidstone. Obviously, it must have something going for it or I wouldn't have stayed here for over twenty years, but it's hard to make its attractions sound very out of the ordinary, or indeed very attractive. Maidstone is...

Come to Sunny Maidstone
Advantages: Plenty to do
Disadvantages: No football stadium yet
...Following Torr's opinion on the historical place called Maidstone, that had some fallacious facts added for good measure, I will now entice you (well, maybe) to the place with some very basic low down facts! (I have paragraphed it with headings to make skimming easier!)
I chose to move to Maidstone in 1978 when I purchased my first house with my then fiancé having scouted around the outer London area, from Basildon, Crawley and Canvey Island. We decided on Maidstone because it has excellent rail and road links into central London which was of major importance in those days as we both worked up there. Maidstone still has excellent links with London and the rest of the country's motorway network, although it has missed out on the High Speed Rail Link to Europe - this can be accessed via Ashford, twenty miles further down the county...

Maidstone called and they came
Advantages: Fun day out
Disadvantages: It has to end
...***** In the beginning *****
The idea of a Maidstone Mini Meet was muted whilst Torr Duncan and I (orlando) were sitting at a bench outside of a London pub having missed our train home, and with an hour till the next one, after the London meet. We have had some ad hoc mini meets before, which have always been well received, although they have been held in Canterbury which has a lot more to offer than our town. However, a previous Maidstone meet did manage to be very well attended, so we thought we could give it another go. Various dates were offered, and pre Christmas became a non-starter as we hadn't got our act together in time.
Duncan and I each put out a review of our intention, and asked for feedback on dates. Despite some members not being able to make the 27th January, it did become the majority vote, and so we...

Luncheon in Maidstone AKA Mexico
Advantages: Delish food, great lunch menu, good atmosphere
Disadvantages: a little cramped
...When I go to shopping with mum, we like to treat ourselves to a nice lunch and when we go to Maidstone, we just can’t resist going to Mexxa Mexxa every single time. I went last week with ma and yesterday with my boyfriend. This review is mainly about lunches at Mexxa Mexxa as I have never been to the restaurant in the evening.
Mexxa Mexxa is a Mexican (quelle surprise) restaurant in Earl Street, Maidstone, just around the back of the new Fremlin Walk shopping development. It is a bright building, you can’t miss it, decorated outside in blue and orange- a couple of doors down from Pizza Express and opposite Nando’s. The inside is decorated with dark wood, tiled floors and skinny waitresses. All of the seating is downstairs and the waiting staff bring the food down from the kitchen upstairs, so perhaps the constant...

Maidstone-The County Town of Kent
Advantages: Good location. Prosperous. Fairly clean
Disadvantages: Lacks night life, a bit expensive.
...Maidstone,one of the larger towns in Kent,is actually the County Town. Somehow it seems to be less well known than several other places in the county such as Dover, Canterbury or Gillingham. It is essentially a prosperous place and is only around 40 miles from London.
The shopping scene in the county town is a good one and most of the well known multiples are represented here, and there are a number of good specialist shops. There are several high quality hotels in the town or on the outskirts as well as guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments.
There are some very good eateries in Maidstone, including ethnic restaurants, and where I would give it very high marks are for its pubs both those in the town centre and at outlying spots such as Bearsted, Allington Lock and Harrietsham. It really does have some gems.
Maidstone is not...

Maidstone Review
Advantages: Great Clubs/Pubs/Bars/Restaurants/Shops
Disadvantages: A slight attitude problem with local youths.
...I have lived in the Maidstone area all my life and have had various experiences in the 22 years i've been here.
SHOPPING:-
Maidstone town centre has many many shops to cater for everyones needs. Sport shops, music shops, card shops you've got your Argos and also fair share of fast food restaurants. With the newly built Fremlin Walk area of the town now completed it improves the shopping even further in Maidstone. House of Fraser being my personal favourite. The Chequers Centre or The Mall as it's now called is like a mini Bluewater which again houses all your well known shops and fast food restaurants so all you shopping lovers will be in your element in Maidstone. Motor World, Matalan and B&Q are also within the town. Saturday afternoons in particlar are extremely busy so expect traffic on the roads and the streets.
NIGHT...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.
Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.
...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers?
I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer.
I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...
