Le Mont Saint-Michel
Advantages: beautiful architecture and atmosphere
Disadvantages: why should it have any! well, kinda expensive to hang around
...on holiday to French Normandy and that Mt. St.-Michel would be one of our destinations and she showed me pictures from her previous trip to that place. I almost had a heart-attack when I saw I was going to lay my feet on the dreamt ground!
Ok, let me be a little more factual now.
Location and accessibility
Le Mont Saint Michel is situated in Normandy, France, in the bay of St. Malo. We went there from Granville by car, which is probably the best as you can park right by the coast. Don't forget to check the high tide information though, because as the tide comes in, the only land access goes under water! I was surprised to find out that in that part of French seaside the difference of low and high tide could easily be even more than 10m!
Walking up the hill to the abbey is quite a walk, so make sure you wear good shoes and have...

A Family outing to Mont St Michel
Advantages: Free to get in (to main part)
Disadvantages: Difficult / No access for wheelchair/pushchair
...Mont St Michel in the Gulf of St-Malo off the coast of Normandy, France. The Benedictine monastery (founded 708 AD) was used as a prison from the time of the French Revolution (1789-1799) until 1863.
I visited Mont St Michel on a day trip during a fmily holiday in June. I was with my husband and 2 children (age 2 and 4 months at the time). The day we went was overcast to the first view of the Monastry was not as spectaular as I'm sure it is on a fine day.
We paid c5 Euros to park and then walked about 100yards to the entrance and then paid another 1 Euro to use the loo! It was heaving with people when we got there which was a bit scary with a toddler who wanted to run and explore and a pushchair to manouvre.
The path were very narrow and cobblestone which was great to see as I love all things historical but it was very...

Hotel Monte Verde
Advantages: Very Clean
Disadvantages: Awful Food, Noisy, Far way from Palma Airport
...In October 2006 I went on an all-inclusive holiday for one week to Porto Cristo on the east coast of Majorca (Mallorca). I stayed in a hotel called the Monte Verde. It cost me £169 and I will now share my experiences of this hotel with you.
The Monte Verde Hotel was built in 1969 and was fully refurbished during the winter of 2000. The Monte Verde has a total of 140 rooms that are built over 7 floors.
When I pulled up to The Monte Verde I was not very impressed with the look of the hotel, it looked like a block of flats and was similar to some of the housing around Porto Cristo, which looked a bit basic and old fashioned. However The Monte Verde is only a 2 star hotel so I was not expecting too much.
Upon arriving inside at around midnight Majorcan time (+1 hour GMT), I was surprised to find nobody at the 24-hour front desk. I...

St Deny's, the clean hotel for my dirty weekend!
Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel.
Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.
...After an incredible weekend away with my darling husband to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, I have now decided to do my first and quite possibly my last hotel review!
Our destination of choice for this excursion was to be a place new to us, so of course the hotel had to be in a prime location at a price we could afford?fortunately we seemed to fall on our feet so to speak on both of these points.
Our destination, to be exact was York, and due to the sheer number of attractions available to us, we wanted a hotel reasonably central, or at least within walking distance of the few sights we wished to see.
After some extensive research, mostly through the designated York tourist board site, we came across the perfect hotel.
St Denys hotel, a small but very quaint hotel, housing 13 rooms only, but with it?s own parking...

MERTON HOTEL, ST SAVIOUR JERSEY
Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool
Disadvantages: no sea view, small television
...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands.
We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay.
The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard.
We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast.
We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel).
OUR BEDROOM
+++++++++++++++
Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...

The archangel in the sea
Advantages: Most popular tourist attraction in France
Disadvantages: Most popular tourist attraction in France!
...The first time we saw the Mont Saint Michel was from about 40kms away, from a village called Mortain, and even from this distance, there was something magical about the place, the characteristic shape appeared to be floating above a shimmering sea. You can understand the fascination it held for medieval pilgrims, and tourists ever since. This site is the most popular tourist attraction in France with 3 million visitors a year. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
~History of the Mont~
***********************
Aubert, bishop of Avranches, built the first church on the site after being asked to do so in a dream by the archangel Michael (that kind of things happened a lot in those days!). That was in 709AD. Before that, this was just a lump of rock in the middle of the sea, barely an island. In 966, the Duke of Normandy...

When the going get tough, leave the Mont Clare
Advantages: South-central location, adjoining pub
Disadvantages: Price, service-level, chintz
...The Mont Clare hotel is part of the O'Callaghan hotel group that encompasses the Davenport and Alexander Hotels, with all three in close proximity to each other. Of the three, the Mont Clare is the cheapest and lowest rated (3-stars). Unfortunately, it charges 4-star pricing that really isn't deserved by any stretch of the imagination.
My overwhelming impression the moment I walked in the door was brass: lots of it. This was immediately before the sinking feeling I get when I know I'm in a hotel that lacks inspiration, and also fails to make up for it by having the reliable, attentive customer service that succeeds in spite of the infrastructure.
Think mahogany veneer with attempts at paisley carpets and patterns, and you'll have a fairly good idea of where this is going. Add a level of rickety, with the constant smell...

Neutral Marble Hotel
Advantages: Big rooms, good location, no blood on the ceiling
Disadvantages: Slow lifts, shallow swimming pool
...Okay, this is my first travel review, as such, and that puts me in the dangerous position of being up for comparison with Koshkha, Richada and Torr, all of whom are brilliant at holiday writing, and are, in my opinion, possibly the greatest Writers Of All Time (although I haven't read anything by Dickens yet). So if you want to compare me to them - please don't, because I'm a fragile person. Right, disclaimer out the way. I went to Canada with my family this year, and our first stop: Montreal.
In Montreal, you could find yourself staying in a Hotel, and if this is the case, then I can tell you now; the Hotel Omni would be a darn good choice for your stay. As soon as you walk in, you're in a marble tropicalia, with a big statue of a woman sitting down by reception and some of the most ludicrous chandeliers you've ever seen hanging...

Heavenly stay at the Columbus Hotel Monaco
Advantages: Wonderful, modern and relaxing
Disadvantages: None!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...Background:
The Columbus Hotel is located within the principality of Monaco which is a small area nestled between France and Italy, no longer than 3 miles across!
The hotel features 9 floors of cool, contemporary rooms and suites and was constructed in 2003 and is part owned by world renowned racing car driver David Coulthard. The hotel is located in the newly reclaimed area (from the sea!) Font Vielle and is approximately a 15 minute walk into Monte Carlo. The whole around the hotel is clean and new and it is less than a two minute walk to the beach and in under 5 minutes you will have walked to the fashionable Cap D'ail in France.
The location:
Surrounded by residential apartments the hotel is quiet without much passing traffic and you do get a sense of seeming some local colour and community a this hotel as one either...

Madeira hotel with character
Advantages: Appearance, character, central location
Disadvantages: up a steep hill
...We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel.
What sold the hotel to us was its look. It has a traditional colonial appearance; a Madeira building that guests must have stayed at a 100 years ago. It has its own unique character and is such a contrast to all the big modern concrete blocks of hotels set along the coast. It may not be luxurious but it more than makes up with charm and grace of a bygone era.
Location
The hotel is situated in Funchal, the main town of the Portuguese island of Madeira.
The airport is located in the outskirts of the town so the transfer time here is short. The hotel is situated close to the centre of Funchal. However, it is positioned up a steep hill without public transport. As such it offers magnificent views over the town, the sea and the mountains. If you have children or you are not very mobile, however...
