Marriott Hotel Peterborough

Advantages: Clean & very comfortable, good location, nice food
Disadvantages: None

...We stayed at this Marriott Hotel in Peterborough for the night about a month ago now because we had been invited to a friends wedding there at the hotel. This hotel has 162 rooms and it is a 3 star hotel. The location is really tranquil and the hotel is surrounded by really nice pretty gardens and large green fields. We paid £90 for a double room and we got a discount for being guests at the wedding, i think breakfast is at a small extra cost but im not 100% sure so you would need to chack this. Its set within 11 acres or so of grounds adjacent to Peterborough's Main Business Park, we found this hotel really easy to find and very well signposted. We found the staff to be really friendly but extremely professional and helpful at all times. We got checked in really quickly and within 5 minuites we were in our room...

Review of Marriott Peterborough Hotel, Peterborough

Not the BULL HOTEL of my dreams.

Advantages: Located City Centre
Disadvantages: City centre not as good as it was.

...When I was a mere lad back in the 1950's the Bull Hotel was looked on in Peterborough as people would think about The Savoy in london. It was a place us "Common" people of Peterborogh were allowed to walk past, but not too close. To hear that someone had been for DINNER at the Bull Hotel put them into the company of Royalty. But that was then when the Population of Peterborough was about 52000 and there was just one main road going through the City. 52000 at a time when the Membership of Peterborough United Football club then in the Midland League was about 30000.Oh what happy days they were. Anyway all comes to those who wait and last year we were attending a family gathering of such vast numbers that all beds in the Fountain Family establishments were taken up, even the lawns of the gardens were fully booked with tents...

The great, Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough

Advantages: Taxi's outside 24 hours, and owned by the great Peter Boizot.
Disadvantages: Nothing................

...My husband is the youngest of six children and it would have been their father's birthday this weekend. He would have been 102 although he died 23 years ago. The family meet up for dinner the first weekend in December in Peterborough with partners for a family get together. This weekend we went to The Great Northern Hotel for dinner. The Great Northern Hotel is opposite the Peterborough railway station and is owned by Peter Boizot, of Pizza Express fame. Peter is an old Petraburgian and now lives back in Peterborough having spent a lot of years in London. We were all very impressed. Dinner was booked for 7-30pm so we arrived and met for pre dinner drinks in the bar, to be greeted by a wedding reception going on and people in kilts, and very nice dresses. We were shown through to our table in the Silverlink Restaurant...

Aaron Park Hotel

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything

...on it i could feel every spring there was and in the room there wasn't a tv, tea/coffee. They went down for breakfast at 8.00 which was stated in the booklet and the man had gone out to walk his dog and said he would make their breakfast when he got back. Unfortuantely he was out for 2 hours and by then they had gone else where to get their breakfast. The heating wasn't on and when they went down to ask for it to be put on he said it wasn't working and he would give them an extra duvet. There was a bad smell in the room, they asked to be moved to a different room but was told that wouldn't be possible even though there wasn't anyone else staying at the hotel. They couldn't open a window as it was too cold in their. The next morning they did get their breakfast on time but it was either hard bread or cereals with warm milk as the man...

Review of Aaron Park Hotel, Peterborough

Maybe it's time I stopped knocking Peterborough!

Advantages: Beautiful building packed with historical significance
Disadvantages: It's in Peterborough - enough said

...I grew up just outside Salisbury and like most others in that location, I was successfully indoctrinated in the belief that there is no better architectural splendour on God's good earth than Salisbury Cathedral. My childhood was punctuated with afternoon field trips filling out work sheets, annual school carol concerts playing my clarinet very badly in the school orchestra and even two weeks of so-called post O'level 'work experience' playing in the cathedral shop. All these and more conspired to fill me with a sense of my home city's superiority in the cathedral stakes. By contrast Peterborough took on something of a bogey-man city status. As a student I would endure awful minibus journeys across the country to play ice-hockey at the Peterborough Ice Rink in the wee-small hours of the night. It seemed to be a place riddled...

In and around Peterborough

Advantages: its easy to get the train into london
Disadvantages: flat countryside

...My ma in law lives in Peterborough. I grew up in a small village in Cambridgeshire; Peterborough was about 30 miles away. I think I only visited once when I was a child. But when I was 16 I went to Peterborough technical college now called Peterborough regional college. Here I took my N N E B certificate. The college holds many different levels of courses. A levels, GCSEs GVNQs, BTECs, Professional qualifications, skills for life and many others. Peterborough is on the train line from London up north, The A1 runs about 8 miles west of Peterborough. Peterborough is 80 miles north of London. And many people commute to London for work. The bus service is fair. I used to catch the bus from my village to Peterborough they ran every hour, The journey took about 1 hr 20 minutes I soon got digs with family while I attended college...

Central Park, Peterborough.

Advantages: An oasis in the city
Disadvantages: None that I know

...I have lived in Peterborough for 37 years, and the Central Park has always been the place to take your children, photos of the park go back to Victorian times and the actual layout has not changed since then. For one it cannot get any bigger as it is in the older central part of the city with buildings all around, though this does not distract from the Park itself. The Park is one large circle with a very wide road around the outside. There are four gates, entry points to the Park and about ten yards in an inner footpath that goes around the Park. The four gates all have footpaths that lead to the centre which is a large flower bed that has a willow tree, this my husband tells me was planted some time in the 60's as there used to be a band stand on the same spot. It seems that the demise of the band caused the band stand to be...

Review of Central Park, Peterborough

Hand and Heart, Peterborough

Advantages: Small, old, friendly and welcoming.
Disadvantages: Nothing to add here.

...Having been drinking in the Hand and Heart for many years now, let me tell you about the little oasis in the back streets of Peterborough. Even to local Petreburgians, if you mention the Hand and Heart they will say that they may have heard of it but not been or never heard of it. Such a well guarded secret, not really. A few years ago the young lads would do a pub crawl, The Crown to town along Lincoln Road, starting at The Crown, New Inn, Greyhound, Triangle, Locomotive, Windmill, Eight Bells, oh! missed The Hand and Heart, as it is on a side street, Norfolk, Tom Lock, Geneva's and then whichever pub you called at in town. It was and still is very rare the lads on the Crown to town call in at the Hand and Heart, perhaps a good thing? The Hand and Heart has been a public house since the 1930's and on entering for the first...

The Buttercross, Central Park, Peterborough

Advantages: Trusted, safe and clean.
Disadvantages: Nothing

...My daughter, grandson and I visited the Buttercross Tea Rooms in Peterborough Central Park on Thursday. The Buttercross has been in the park for a few years now, but as I use to live close by never used it as it was easy to go home for a cuppa. It is situated in the very centre of the park and has no competition in the area, even so it is not over priced. It is clean well run by the family and got very busy as it was half term and there where lots of children playing in the park. We were delighted with what we found and the service there. The owners are Italian, and the staff where extremely kind and efficient. They have 34 covers, which is enough inside as not that big and table and chairs outside and people where sat outside enjoying the sunshine. It was 11-30am and on the busy side, but we were served very quickly...

The Palmerston Arms, Peterborough

Advantages: Great place to go for a pint
Disadvantages: None

...Are you a real ale drinker? Have you visited any of the real ale pubs in Peterborough? If the answer to these two questions is "No", then I recommend that you visit The Palmerston Arms, a.k.a. The Palmy. This is a unique pub in Peterborough that it serves every week, up to 15 real ales, plus real cider all straight from the casks, not a hand pump used on any of these. Most weekends they have the 15 beers, which is usually 5 Bateman's, XXXB, XB, Bateman Mild, Bateman Salem Porter and the seasonal brew from Bateman's. They have as a regular Oakham's White Dwarf, Castle Rock Harvest Pale and the rest will be? They do serve, as a new feature, Leffe beer and Kriek, from a hand pump but that is the limit. The Palmerston Arms has been a public house in Peterborough along the Oundle Road for more years than I would like to...
