St Malo - a French treasure

Advantages: Beauty, culture
Disadvantages: Crowds

...My strongest memory of St Malo is of my last sight of this beautiful city as I waited for the ferry home. Standing on the dockside, I watched the setting sun, very low on the horizon, bathe the ramparts in a wonderful golden light. The sun's reflection glinted from the windows of the hundreds of houses overlooking the sea. St Malo was a sparkling jewel. Sadly, a few short minutes later the sky was dark and my stay was at an end. There is something magical about St Malo - its imposing ramparts protecting a little world of cobbled streets and grand houses. Many people pass through the port with barely a second glance as they head for the south. But thousands are ensnared by St Malo's charm - and therein lies a problem! I visited St Malo for the first time in the mid-1980s at the start of a cycling holiday. My wife and I pedalled...

St Deny's, the clean hotel for my dirty weekend!

Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel.
Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.

...After an incredible weekend away with my darling husband to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, I have now decided to do my first and quite possibly my last hotel review! Our destination of choice for this excursion was to be a place new to us, so of course the hotel had to be in a prime location at a price we could afford?fortunately we seemed to fall on our feet so to speak on both of these points. Our destination, to be exact was York, and due to the sheer number of attractions available to us, we wanted a hotel reasonably central, or at least within walking distance of the few sights we wished to see. After some extensive research, mostly through the designated York tourist board site, we came across the perfect hotel. St Denys hotel, a small but very quaint hotel, housing 13 rooms only, but with it?s own parking...

MERTON HOTEL, ST SAVIOUR JERSEY

Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool
Disadvantages: no sea view, small television

...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands. We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay. The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard. We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast. We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel). OUR BEDROOM +++++++++++++++ Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...

Take the bait

Advantages: Dramatic location, characterful old town, colourful past
Disadvantages: A bit of a tourist trap

...Saint-Malo is best approached from the sea. This is not only because the old town looks so impressive from offshore, the tall buildings within the walls peering watchfully out over the grey granite ramparts, but because the broad sweep of its seafront provides a kind of shorthand introduction to St-Malo's history and character. While the grim old walled town on its central promontory catches the eye and hints at a turbulent past, to the east the hotels and cafés behind the beach of Paramé serve as a reminder that St-Malo is also a holiday resort. Similarly, as the visitor is steered through the fortified outer islands to enter the harbour from the west, it is easy to see that the quays are more crowded with pleasure craft than with fishing and commercial vessels. St-Malo is today primarily a visitor attraction, but much of its...

Cardinal Hotel - Not Bad, Not Bad

Advantages: Reception, Balcony, Breakfast Bar, Rooms
Disadvantages: First Impression

...expensive journey. Luckily the return trip wasn't the same but it's not like you can argue with them nor do anything. So with my first impression of the locals engraved in stone in my mind I got out of the taxi to find the Cardinal Hotel, St Peters. - The Address The address suggests that the hotel is basically on the door step of the Vatican its self. I have no idea why it was so similar to the address of the actual St Peters because the Cardinal Hotel is on the out skirts of the city. Even one or two of the taxi drivers who had been around for a while weren't sure where it was. To get to the hotel you have to turn off a main road after avoiding some mad traffic (that's how they drive there) into a back street which looks like it has taken a beating over the years and could do with someone tearing it apart and relaying the concrete...

21st Amsterdam Hotel

Advantages: Mediocre location, cheap
Disadvantages: Could be cleaner, no towel!

...I went on holiday recently with a bunch of lads to celebrate our 21st Birthday....what we did in Amsterdam though for that is a different story xD However on browsing the internet we originally settled on a hotel which was said to be literally 1 minute walk away from the city centre. However due to some stairs being described as the 'Stairs of Death' We decided to upgrade to a 2* Hotel instead! On arrival in Amsterdam, we found a booth at the train station where you typed in the address of your hotel, and it located it for you and printed it along with tram lines and numbers to get, So we printed and thought with our luggage, oh that doesn't look far, we'll walk there. And truth be told, it was only what 20 minutes walk away from the centre. Maybe a bit more depending on your walking pace. But with the Luggage it took...

Crowne Plaza St James - A Great London Hotel Happy to See You

Advantages: Great Location. Excellent standard of service. Relatively good value for London.
Disadvantages: No Pool. That's about it!

...INTRODUCTION I booked dinner and theatre for my wife's thirtieth birthday, and needed a relatively up-market hotel in London - with a bit of ?wow? factor - to overnight in. I am a frequent visitor to IC Hotel Group properties on business (these include the five star Intercontinental Hotels, the four to five star Crowne Plaza, and the three to four star Holiday Inn) and am a member of their award-winning ?Priority Club? loyalty scheme, so I decided to use my accumulated points to redeem a ?Reward Night? and stay for free. The hotel is on Buckingham Gate, with extensive frontage featuring an attractive red and white brick façade with decorative arches, reminiscent of Florentine architecture. GETTING TO & FROM The hotel is in the heart of Westminster. It?s a short, three minute, walk from St James? Park Tube...

Pleasant stay at the St George

Advantages: Comfortable, attractive hotel with good range of facilities
Disadvantages: Location not the best, can be chaotic in the dining room

...and gym free but spa services at extra cost, as you would expect. Small shop and hairdressers also available. Range of sitting areas around the pool, plus grassy areas and rocky areas adjacent to the sea. Animation team worked hard to encourage participation in events but were very friendly and not pushy. Nightly entertainment of the usual variable standard, but also an enjoyable quiz. Balance of guests during out stay were mainly British, but also German, French and Russian guests were staying. Dining experience was the main downside. Breakfast was generally OK but disapointed that no omlettes etc could be made to order as is usual in this class of hotel. Only "omlettes" available had been baked in the oven in trays and were some 50mm thick - more like egg custard. We did not have lunch in the hotel, but took the evening meals as we were...

Review of Hotel St. George, Paphos

Great hotel, great value for money!

Advantages: Great staff, quick and efficient service, beautiful gardens, relaxing pool area
Disadvantages: Hotel owns a couple dogs (for people that are not dog-lovers)

... Summary The Westhill Hotel in St Helier, Jersey is a very nice three-star hotel. The hotel itself is a little dated in some parts (in no way that would detract from your holiday though) but the beauty and convenience of the outdoor area and the friendly and very helpful staff more than make up for it. Detail It's very hard to find someone dissatisfied with their stay at the Westhill. Many people say that you get what you pay for, but in the case of the Westhill, that is untrue. You get more than what you pay for. The hotel itself is located in the rural outskirts of St Helier (about half an hours walk away from the centre). I would recommend walking to and from the hotel but as the walk to St Helier is downhill, the walk back to the hotel is uphill. Although, that said, if you do not own a car or you have not...

Stay at St. Giles in style

Advantages: The cost of booking over the internet.
Disadvantages: The delays of staff response

...Hi all i have made a mistake with this review this is for the St. Giles hotel in bedford avenue London not the one that i have written the review for sorry for any inconvenience. Silly me The address is Bedford Avenue, Bloomsbury, Camden, London, WC1B 3AS My girlfriend and me stayed at the St. Giles hotel while visiting London as we were going to see the Backstreet boys, well I was dragged along. We looked everywhere over the Internet and the St. Giles was the nicest one we could find at a good price, well for London anyway. The hotel is just off Oxford Street and near Tottenham court road tube station. Therefore it is ideal for shopping and great for getting on the tube to other destinations. There is also a theatre where you can watch musicals just up the road about 100 meters away so you do not have to worry about taxi...
