Hotel De Havelet- The place to stay!
Advantages: Close to all amenities, clean, friendly, good short break offers
Disadvantages: If walking be prepared for the hill!!
...Nestled in the side of a hill surrounded by other private houses, yet still with tranquillity, is the Hotel De Havelet run by Best Western, which inlcudes their very inviting and locally well-known restaurant- 'The Wellington Boot.'
Although we were working on a budget for this visit, we were still looking for good food and comfortable lodgings for a few days, and this hotel churned out the goods!
The hotel is situated on the edge of St Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey, so the major town is very accessible by foot, and not too far from local public transport, taxis or boat trips to the other smaller surrounding Channel Islands.
We had taken up a short break offer, which we were very grateful for as our trip was not to be a relaxing one due to a death in the family. However, this hotel, whatever reason brings you to the island...

Cardinal Hotel - Not Bad, Not Bad
Advantages: Reception, Balcony, Breakfast Bar, Rooms
Disadvantages: First Impression
...expensive journey. Luckily the return trip wasn't the same but it's not like you can argue with them nor do anything. So with my first impression of the locals engraved in stone in my mind I got out of the taxi to find the Cardinal Hotel, St Peters.
- The Address
The address suggests that the hotel is basically on the door step of the Vatican its self. I have no idea why it was so similar to the address of the actual St Peters because the Cardinal Hotel is on the out skirts of the city. Even one or two of the taxi drivers who had been around for a while weren't sure where it was.
To get to the hotel you have to turn off a main road after avoiding some mad traffic (that's how they drive there) into a back street which looks like it has taken a beating over the years and could do with someone tearing it apart and relaying the concrete...

St Peter's Church, Edensor
Advantages: Lots of history, beautiful setting
Disadvantages: Not everyone's ideal place to visit
...the main road into the village.
At the centre of the village is St Peter's Church, which dominates the village. The entrance to this is best accessed via Japp Lane and the spire of this Church can be seen from many miles away.
This Church was built in 1870 and was originally created as a place of worship for the Duke of Devonshire, his family and his staff. Today the current Duke and Duchess still use this Church as their regular place of worship and they can often be found here during Sunday service.
For such a relatively modern Church this is quite a grand affair. It has an architectural style that predates its true origin by a couple of centuries and there are wonderful stained glass windows and lots of fancy gold decorations on both the inside and the outside of the Church. This is a true demonstration of the amount of wealth that...

St Deny's, the clean hotel for my dirty weekend!
Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel.
Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.
...facilities, the only pre-requisite my husband demanded, was the perfect choice so I picked it, booked it and f***ked off?.. So, I went a bit Peter Kay then!
After initially contacting the hotel directly, I was advised by the receptionist that if I booked it through the York tourist board site, via the St Deny?s link, I would be able to save myself a few pounds, be warned after checking on line, then again with the hotel itself there was a discrepancy of around £10 per room, per night, the fact it worked out dearer to book through the link was not the result I expected, so check with the hotel direct first.
When I finally booked the double en-suite room the receptionist was pleasant, and well informed. The rooms cost £79 a night, which compared to the relatively cheaper venue of Whitby, our usual weekend of choice, is bloody good value...

St. Peter and the Pearlies
Advantages: Lovely refreshing ale
Disadvantages: None evident, if you discount the Stormtroopers in Sainsbury's
...goal.
I shoulder charge a bearded type in a sheep-coloured sweater out of the way and scan the shelves for something new.
An odd-shaped bottle catches my eye. Greeny-brown glass, oval rather than round and with a slight pearlescent sheen. Some subtle embossing round the bottom of the bottle and more just below the shoulder, and a yellow and gold oval label bearing the legend ?St. Peter?s Organic Ale.
More info...I need more info before I grab the stock and run. 4.5% ABV, OK, fine. Light malted barley and hops...yeah yeah. One of Britain?s finest small breweries...yaddah yaddah...heard it before.
Why so negative? Because I?ve recently been caught out by a beer which looked as though it had all the right credentials, but turned out to be pretty rank.
Anyway, I bought what they had, and backed it up with a few old faithfuls. I...

St Peter's Church, Hope, Derbyshire
Advantages: Lovely Building, Lots Of History
Disadvantages: Often Closed
...The Parish Church of St Peter can be found in the small, picturesque town of Hope in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Visitors, who drive through Hope on their way to Castleton 3 Kilometres further down the road, often overlook this Village. However, whilst it is true that Castleton may have more to offer for the tourist, Hope is a charming little place and should not be dismissed.
Hope?s Church stands on a small grassy mound in the centre of the Village and dominates the area. We know that there was a Saxon Church that stood on this same spot from the 8th century AD and reference to this is made in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The present Church however dates largely from the 14th century, although there are a few of its early Norman features that have been preserved, including the Font.
In addition to being...

MERTON HOTEL, ST SAVIOUR JERSEY
Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool
Disadvantages: no sea view, small television
...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands.
We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay.
The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard.
We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast.
We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel).
OUR BEDROOM
+++++++++++++++
Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...

PETER PAN FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
Advantages: Great story, wonderful fx, heart warming
Disadvantages: Minor complaints re some fx
...----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The world will be divided into those that have read the original text, those who cling to the Disney version and those who know little about the story of a boy who didn?t want to grow up. Peter Pan is a fantasy, almost elf-like boy, who occasionally visits London to find out more about children?s tales. On this visit, he is looking to find out more about the fate of Cinderella when he encounters the Darling family. Made up of Mr and Mrs Darling, Aunt Millicent, Wendy, Michael, John and Nana the St Bernard, the Darlings appear to be a typical Victorian family who are very close and enjoy each others company. However, Wendy is at the age where she wants to discover more about the world so when she makes the acquaintance of a boy that can fly who promises a land of adventure somewhere in the stars, she follows him taking brothers Michael and John...

Cheap as croissants!
Advantages: Very clean and cheap
Disadvantages: None!
...normally not at all fussed about having breakfast as I find that it is cheaper and more enjoyable to just go to a normal café' and have freshly baked cake or pastries. In general the breakfast experience was positive.
People sit around a circular table which has a raised middle area where waiters would put baskets full of croissants, normal bread and the sweet french bread. On another area you would have all sorts of jams, butter, yougurts and of course tea, coffee and juice. It felt a bit like a modest church cafeteria with noises of people chatting away and waiters making noises with cutlery, glasses..
Sad as it may sound we did leave the table with a couple of croissants and jams in our pockets!
As far as location this hotel was 10 min max from the Porte St. Ouen underground line and you could reach the centre of Paris within a few...
