Surrey in a Hurry

...Location -Kennington, London Established in 1845

Overseas Player (s): Grant Elliott
Founded: 1845
Home Ground: The Oval

So England won The Ashes, as expected only a fag paper between them in the series, the said N-Power Rizla given to Strauss to roll a nice cigar, a very impressive young man and leader. Shame he's South African like half the bloody England team now! The series wasn't as good as 2005, hence the muted post match celebrations, two average teams now 4th and 5th in the world respectively. But what is was, of course, was entertaining and the stepping stone...

A Peaceful Oasis in the Heart of Suburban Surrey
Advantages: Beautifully maintained. Atmsopheric. Tranquil and calm.
Disadvantages: Can get busy in high season.
...other hidden and interesting features (such as hidden statuary, rockeries and a huge variety of shrubs and plants). At the centre of the lake is a small island with a Georgian pavilion, but this is inaccessible to visitors. I would estimate that the route around the lack is about half a mile, taking no more than about half an hour to walk around at leisurely pace. At the top of the lake, near the amphitheatre are a couple of fabulous Lebanese Cedars which the Trust boasts are some of the finest in England. They certainly are majestic and magnificent and add a certain aura to the place. Away from the lake, there are various paths leading off on a circular route around the outskirts of the property, giving access to viewpoints and vistas overlooking the lake. These include a rose garden, a statuary and a balcony that features shaped shrubbery...

Surrey with a fringe on top
Advantages: Plenty of internationals in current squad
Disadvantages: County form disrupted by test calls
...The Surrey side of the 1950s was perhaps one of the finest county sides ever. The team won seven consecutive county championships. The team consisted of great players such as Ken Barrington, Peter May, Alec + Eric Bedser, Jim Laker, Tony Lock, Peter Loader etc.
Ken Barrington - was a hard-hitting batsman. He even managed the England touring team to the West Indies in 1980-81. On that tour there was the infamous Robin Jackman affair, which needed all of Ken’s diplomatic skills. The strain proved too much for him and he passed away on that tour with a heart attack.
Peter May - was England captain in the early 1960s. His highest test score is 285 not out. In the 1980s he was chairman of the England selectors. His godson is Chris Cowdrey who was made England captain for one match. This was a classic case of nepotism. Peter carved...

The Mackworth Hotel, Derbyshire
Advantages: Great location, warm and friendly
Disadvantages: May be out of budget, hotel rooms not suitable for disabled guests
...The Mackworth hotel is a converted and extended farmhouse situated on the edge of the medieval village of Mackworth, Derbyshire. It lies just 2 miles out of Derby City Centre with close links to the M1/M6/A38/A50.
We chose this as our wedding venue in the October of 2006, after visiting the Hotel for several meals and evenings out previously.
As well as being fully licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, the hotel boasts extensive conferencing facilities, restaurant and bar areas.
The restaurant boasts a superb carvery with a varied choice of meat and veg for a reasonable price as well as many alternatives on the menu. The hotel is surrounded by picturesque Derbyshire Countryside visible from the restaurant open plan extension.
The hotel itself has welcoming decor styled on rustic farmhouse with the main entrance to the side...

21st Amsterdam Hotel
Advantages: Mediocre location, cheap
Disadvantages: Could be cleaner, no towel!
...I went on holiday recently with a bunch of lads to celebrate our 21st Birthday....what we did in Amsterdam though for that is a different story xD
However on browsing the internet we originally settled on a hotel which was said to be literally 1 minute walk away from the city centre. However due to some stairs being described as the 'Stairs of Death'
We decided to upgrade to a 2* Hotel instead!
On arrival in Amsterdam, we found a booth at the train station where you typed in the address of your hotel, and it located it for you and printed it along with tram lines and numbers to get,
So we printed and thought with our luggage, oh that doesn't look far, we'll walk there. And truth be told, it was only what 20 minutes walk away from the centre. Maybe a bit more depending on your walking pace. But with the Luggage it took...

England's Most Magical Hotel
Advantages: BRILLIANT theming, lots of fun
Disadvantages: None!
...I stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel in Alton Towers for my birthday last year, and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
Though I was initially sad that I could not afford the high prices of the original Alton Towers hotel, I am now glad that I could not - Splash Landings is much, much better - and a much greater value too!
I went with four other friends, and we all had a superb time. The hotel is brilliantly themed. There are so many little details that the staff have added, it truly is a magical experience. From the moment you look at it from the outside to the moment you actually step in, whoever designed the hotel did a wonderful job. It was exactly what I wanted in a hotel. Checking in was easy enough - the staff were also friendly, and gave us all the information we needed, as well as chocolate coins that we could...

Quentin England Amsterdam
Advantages: Cheap Good Location
Disadvantages: Noisy Small Rooms Lack of Cleanliness
...Depends on what type of group of yous that are coming if your a couple or parents with children or elderly people i would stay away from hotel if your youngsters there to booze and party then this could be your place owing to its excellent location. The staff were very pleasant and helpful even when i turned up 2 hours before i was supposed to check in but the room i had was very small and the rooms were dusty. Another word of warning was the amount of noise outside it sounded like a building site from 7am onwards each day monday to friday and you could hear peoples discussions in the adjacent rooms(thin walls) For a small amount more you could get a far better hotel....

Celebrating England
Advantages: looks cute
Disadvantages: retired
...Everybody my age had TY beanies, they were adorable! My close circle of friends and I were huge collectors and between us we have most, if not all, of them going! One of these is England the Bear.
England:
The name is pretty self explanatory. This bear represents the country England. Whether it is bought as a souvineer by a tourist in England, or by somebody whose home country is England and they are proud of that, this bear is there to represent it.
Appearance:
To look at, England from a distance seems plain, almost like a basic white bear. Indeed, his fur is white, which goes hand in hand with the whiteness of the England flag. Around his neck there is a little red, white and blue bow - the colours of the Union Jack. This alone is cute, and then on his chest you will notice a little England flag has been stitched on. This adds to...

"YOU'LL NOT LIKE THIS VIEW Mr R!".....TWO YEARS LATER AND.....
Advantages: Cheap. Location. Booking.
Disadvantages: Room. Shower. Toilet. Fan. Decor. General Decreptitude. Environmental Nightmare.
...(Two years later and......)......IT'S NOT ONLY THE VIEW THAT WE ARE NOT LIKING!
Sometimes one feels that returning to favoured places, hotels in this case, may prove to be a mistake - but if, in having published a glowing review, I am urging you to stay there, then the very least I can do is to follow my own advice and use it......
......use it at least until I can no longer recommend it and no longer choose to use it myself, as, sadly, has become the case here.
2009 has been a year of some considerable hardship to the majority of us, both in business, and as a result, personally too more often than not. Many industries are having a very tough time of it and in the very specific case of the formerly more than acceptable Bower Hotel, it appears that every cost has been cut in order to survive; the trouble is that you can cut costs to...

England Cricket Team Part 1
Advantages: Side hard to beat
Disadvantages: Often wrong team selected
...he wanted a rest after a few years of non-stop touring. But he complicated things by saying that he wanted to tour New Zealand.
Andrew Caddick and Robert Croft pulled out due to security concerns.
If England start poorly then the media will blame the fact that England’s 2 best bowlers Caddick and Gough were absent.
England does poorly in India because the cricketers only go out there for the cricket. The Australian cricketers also enjoy the culture of the country and make better use of their free time.
Pundits may argue that it’s what you do on the cricket field that matters and nothing else. But the mind is important in these situations. It helps the mind if you are actually enjoying touring.
On the last tour of India the England cricketers spent their spare time beside the hotel swimming pool. The opportunity...
