Plymouth Copthore Hotel

Advantages: Great Location
Disadvantages: More of a Good 3* Hotel than a 4* Hotel.

...I have mixed views on the Plymouth Copthorne Hotel. I have stayed here numerous times, and have experienced a variety of services from "average" to "good". Official details about the hotel (and booking rates) can be found here: http://www.benbow.org.uk/CopthornePlymouth.htm First of all, I have never had a "bad" experience in the Copthorne. There have been times where an issue arose, but this was then sorted out by the front desk staff. Saying that, the issue shouldn't have arisen in the first place. Pro's : Great Location in the center of Plymouth. If you are travelling by train, it is a 3 minute walk away from the station (or a really cheap taxi ride!). The prices - especially for weekend deals - can be competative compared to other hotels / B&B's in the area. They have parking under the hotel for hotel guests...

A stunning hotel perfect for weddings

Advantages: Beautiful building and grounds
Disadvantages: Disabled access is poor

...to charge us £10 a head for the evening buffet but when we told them that we couldn't really afford that they asked us what we could afford and did what they could for that amount which was great. We met with the wedding coordinator numerous times and she was amazing throughout the whole thing. She couldn't do enough to help us and kept in contact regularly. On the actual day everything went smoothly and it really was a dream. I'd definitely recommend this place not only to get married in but to just take a look at. If you are visiting Plymouth at anytime go and take a look it will take your breath away. The room we had was a bridal suite with a luxury four poster bed and large bathroom. It costs £150 for this room, but prices range from £70 to £150. In conclusion, it's one of the most dated and beautiful hotels in Plymouth...

Review of Boringdon Hall Hotel, Plymouth

A good, 'Sound' Hotel!!!

Advantages: Central Location.
Disadvantages: Red-light district!

...the city and in a good central location. There is also the Plymouth Registry Office a couple streets away so is well situated for weddings. A Bad Nights Sleep at Plymouth Travelodge

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Lumpy Beds, Noisy

...A recent trip to Plymouth meant I needed to book a hotel for the night for me and my partner - but due to low funds it needed to be something cheap and cheerful. Enter the local Travelodge. I have to admit to having never stayed in a Travelodge before, but had heard that they were a cheap alternative. ~~Price~~ I have to say that I was quite shocked at how much one night would cost as I have stayed in cheaper and more luxurious places than this before. Unfortunately we couldn?t find a room anywhere else in Plymouth for that night due to various events that were taking place in the city. The Travelodge we eventually looked at didn?t have any standard double rooms available so we had to go with the family room which ended up costing us £79! Hotels in plymouth

Advantages: Copthorn price. Grand Decor
Disadvantages: Copthorn location. Grand price.

...I have stayed in two hotels in plymouth. First the Copthorn hotel and then this year the Grand hotel on the sea front. I stayed at the Copthorn first because it was closer tothe university which I was visiting. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at both the hotels I visited. The only problem in the Grand was the bar. Although always open it was not always manned. The bar in the copthorn was alot bussier so was always manned. Both of the sets of rooms stayed in were exceptionally clean and well made. The Grand was in a more traditional style, which I though would suit the older visitor. The copthorn more modern in general design. I ate in both the hotels, and have since ate in the copthorn again on a sunday. Both the meals were delightful, although differed considerably in price. The worst hotel in the UK? Possibly.

Advantages: A bed and a roof.
Disadvantages: Where do I start?

...degrees sun, carrying our heavy bags, so walked straight up to the next place with a vacancy sign. This was the private Tyrella hotel, a three storey Georgian white house, 5 minutes from the beach. The basement was an Indian restaurant which looked quite trendy. After ringing the bell several times, we were greeted by an unenthusiastic man with no shoes on who carried a distinctive whiff of curry and sweat about him. Several small children scurried at his feet. He appeared to have a very poor grasp of the English language and the displayed prices mysteriously increased. Any normal person would have major alarm bells ringing by now and would have politely declined, but who said we were normal, and besides, we were desperate. The UK's '4th coolest boutique hotel'

Advantages: Cental location, friendly service, individualistic
Disadvantages: A little cramped, grubby carpets, a little inflexible on breakfast times

...I travel a lot with work and it's a trifle sad but I have become blasé regarding the same luxury hotel chains-Renaissance, Holiday Inn, Hilton etc It was nice to stay at a boutique hotel for once-and one right slap bang in the middle of Newcastle city centre. Prestige Events Magazine voted it the 4th coolest boutique hotel in the UK last year. The Lowry in Manchester (I love it) was number 10. It's a cute little hotel with a mere 49 bedrooms. I'm not sure why we stay here rather than one of the hotel chains but I am not complaining! Apparently it used to be a bank. It's also Newcastle's first pet friendly hotel. I travelled with my dear deceased little dog in the past and we both enjoyed dog friendly hotels. First impressions: You could almost miss the hotel, as it's very discreet. And small! ...The Holiday Inn in Plymouth is located on Armada Way, up towards Plymouth Hoe. This is a good central location for the Hoe, the Barbican and the city centre, which are all within walking distance. There are 211 rooms in the hotel, all of which have tea and coffee making facilities, colour TV, desk, bathroom and wardrobe. Each room has individual temperature controls. Rooms available include family, wheelchair accessible ones and also non smoking rooms. If need be, there are several auxiliary aids available. These include portable induction loops, vibrating pillow and flashing light alarms, large print menus and refrigerated medicine storage. ...I was born and bred in Plymouth and moved away at 26 years old because of work. I visit family about once a month and in my mind Plymouth is the best city in the world, but it does have faults. I have attemped to give an insight in Plymouth under varying sub headings so the reader can pick out info relevant to them. HISTORY Plymouth has alot of it. The Pilgrim Fathers sailed from here from Mayflower steps, still evident today. The most famous person is Sir Francis Drake who led the battle against the spanish armada from his bout the Golden Hind. His home Buckland Abbey is only a few miles inland towards Dartmoor. Forget wedding bells, more like alarm bells :-(

Advantages: gorgeous venue, lovely setting great history.
Disadvantages: shame about the staff!

Things couldn't seem more perfect but we came back down to earth with a thump when we thought back to what the wedding co-ordinator had told us "You will need to put a deposit down this week else we can't guarantee any dates. We looked through the dates she had free and finally decided on the 14th June 2008. We then arranged another visit to pay the deposit and sign a booking form. Now within a week £500 was a lot to find however we were assured by the woman that this deposit was just to secure a date and if we later changed our minds she would work with us to sort it out.
