Too many different stories...

Advantages: Easy to read, some interesting tales
Disadvantages: It's not really an autobiography, and can be a bit confusing

The title "Too Many Mothers" illustrates how the book is very much focused upon the female role in the family, and also how many of the children throughout the book seem to move between mothers. I found it very hard to keep track of who was who and what year we were in. It particularly confused me when talking about people doing various things when I had read in the previous chapter that they had died. I had to keep referring back to previous parts of the book just to get things straight in my head. A family tree with birth, marriage and death dates would have been extremely useful. Despite the confusion it does make quite easy reading. There is a degree of bad language and a few parts which were a bit crude, but this illustrates the culture of the time and place. How Many Killings?

Advantages: Again, again with the Daleks. You may be a fan.
Disadvantages: A disappointing confrontation for Davison's Doctor.

Like many episodes of the Eighties, there's also a strong sense that this was written more for up-to-speed fans than casual viewers interested in seeing a bit of Dalek, and while some touches are harmlessly sentimental, such as the Doctor's brain scan that brings up visual parade of the role's previous actors and many of the Doctor's companions, the background of the Movellan conflict from 'Destiny' and in fact all of the revised Dalek mythology from 'Genesis' are pretty much required foreknowledge if the Daleks' plot is going to make any kind of sense. The Doctor himself is rather disappointing in this story, too swamped by ill-fated guest stars and pointless, trouble-making companions to get much time in the spotlight, and even the more pivotal and dramatic scenes in the final part lack the resonance of Tom Baker...

How many "f's" in "catastrophic"?

Advantages: Kevin Spacey
Disadvantages: Poor choice of Superman, bad script and mediocre special effects

...was the casting of Brandon Routh as Superman. He just doesn't look convincing enough for me and again from the start of the movie this left me a little flat on the whole thing. If Routh is to return for future Superman films I do feel it will put me off. Unlike Christian Bale's Batman and Daniel Craig's James Bond, the re launch of Superman using Brandon Routh has fallen well wide of the mark. The only high point of the whole movie was the performance from Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. He really stole the show and put in a performance of pure evil that given the right actor as Superman could have made this film despite the script. In a film that really doesn't live up to its predecessors he is the one shining light. He has taken to the role of Luthor, as he does with many others, with relative ease and should there be a change of Superman...

How many parcels can Pat carry?

Advantages: great game for little ones

...on a circular board with his arms outstretched ready to carry as many plastic parcels as possible. Four people can play the game and they each have a Jess (Postman Pat's cat) playing piece to move around the board. There is a traditional dice and every time you land on a segment of board there is an instruction to follow. These are either to give Pat a number of parcels to add to his load, or occasionally to remove some of his parcels. The aim of the game is not to be the one to cause Pat to fall over and drop all his parcels. Of course, my almost three year old has not quite got this yet, and she actually enjoys making Pat drop all his parcels but I guess she'll learn! Every time he goes toppling over she bursts into laughter and cannot stop giggling. IN fact she is very happy just trying to give Pat the parcels and watch him drop them...
