...I have always enjoyed watching stand up and happily spend many evenings with the other half, falling asleep giggling to something silly. My favourite comedians include, Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Jim Davidson, Lee Evans and Tim Minchin. While browsing through HMV a few weeks ago, making a few usual impulse buys in the hope of finding something good, I spotted Russell Howard's "Live" DVD. The name rang a bell and I briefly remembered seeing a 2 minute clip of Russell on youtube and finding it funny. So the DVD was brought for 9.99. If you have never seen Russell Howard before or seen any of his material, I can only describe him as being hysterically funny with a boyish charm. Advantages: good tunes and really catchy
Disadvantages: only one really outstanding track

...This is a self-titled album by singer songwriter Robert Post. He comes from a small village in Norway called Langevaag and he got together with two friends, Tor and Alf, and set about to record an album. Tor does the drums and Alf plays bass for Post. Mike Hedges is the producer of the album, who has produced work for many different artists such as the Manic Street Preachers or Travis. This album looks like it could be set to be big in due time. Again, I first heard some of his music through a friend, when he downloaded one of the songs though iTunes. Johnny Rico comes from a background of wealth and privilege and through peer pressure and naivety he signs up for service. Only a person who has completed a minimum two year service has the Right to vote. Not everybody wants to serve and thus vote. Robert Swindells: Stone Cold

Advantages: Giving a better understanding of homeless people and their situations
Disadvantages: Dual-Narrative-often confusing, lack of direction.

...The book, Stone Cold, written by Robert Swindells, evolves around a teenage boy nicknamed Link, who is having an extremely difficult time dealing with family life, due to his mothers relationship with her rude, arrogant boyfriend Vince. The book follows the 16 year old throughout his journey, showing both the advantages and disadvantages of freedom. It is clear from the start of the book that Link feels uncomfortable in his home. He does not appear to have a close bond with his mother, although, it seemed that Link had a good relationship with his sister, Karen. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, stood in the way of their relationship and they therefore grew apart. Sword? Sexy Girl? Horse? Ale? right lets go!

Advantages: Swashbuckling heroic cheesy fun, fluid reading at times, its Conan NOT Arnold!
Disadvantages: Politically incorrect in parts, though not a major fault it does dampen it somewhat.

...Conan the Cimmerian? ? Conan the Barbarian? ? Conan the Austrian bodybuilder? Whatever springs into your head when you think of Conan, these books are where it all began. He was immortalised in the two films where he was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and as adaptations go the first film (which s the only one I've seen) is very faithful, and it features material from this, the first of two collections of Conan's adventures. Mr.Nice by Howard Marks

Advantages: An Excellent, Intelligent, Thought-provoking, Honest read.
Disadvantages: Sags a bit in the middle but picks up again as soon as he is in prison!

...I found this book to be excellent! It was a really enjoyable read. Howard Marks puts across his entire life in a completely honest and genuine way. He is clearly a likable man and no matter what he has done you really can't help but be on his side! The fact that the basis of this book is his life involved with Cannabis did not really occur to be as a bad point within this book as it is told with such charm, wit, honesty and integrity that he could have been writing a book on anything and I'm sure I would still find him a brilliant writer and man. This is not an easy-to-read stoners book, it is a detailed journey of Mark's life and (as I quickly established) he is not a man with no brains who smokes weed, he is incredibly insightful, clever, funny and intellectual.
