Reviews of hp cd-rw / dvd-rom combo drive
The Business Desktop is The Business
Review of HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7100 - P4 530 3 GHz by
webwise
Advantages: Easy to update chipset, 8 High Speed USB2 Ports
Disadvantages: Reports of difficulty removing case, Slightly awkward component placement
...as the operating system (you can either select Unix OS if you like).
It houses an Intel GMA900 Graphics card with a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 and gives you access to CD-RW DVD-ROM combo with a read speed of 48 times. Built in speakers and an 80GB Serial ATA-150 Hard Drive wrap this neat little bundle up and packs it with an incredible 3 year warranty.
There have been reports that the case is incredibly tight and difficult to get off for those who may want to update it for any reason, and some of the components are in slightly awkward places; namely the Hard Drive is right under the power supply and it's cumbersome trying to get to it.
All in all though, the HP Compaq Business Desktop Dc7100 is a perfect addition to anyone's office and for virtually any use. It sits with quite a hefty price tag, still, though but worth the money....

Great business machine
Review of Compaq Evo D510 Ultra-Slim - P4 2 GHz by
pob0782
Advantages: small form factor, cheap, fast, reliable, good support
Disadvantages: lack of space to upgrade
...that the upgrade options are limited. This is partially true. Memory can be upgraded to 2Gb at 400DDR (plenty for most people) and it is very unlikely the processor will need an upgrade in the next couple of years.
The CR Drive can be chanded for a DVD-ROM, or a DVD Writer, or even a CDR or DVD/CDR combo. so pleany of choice there.
Unfortunately, there is limited space of the inclusion of extra hard drives, or additional PCI Cards. However, this machine is not aimed at the upgrade market.
It is squarely aimed at the small form factor market, and the machine exceeds all expectations.
Unlike so many manufacturers who seem to beleive that small form factor machines must be "feature crippled". Compaq (or HP if you prefer) have proved that this is not the case. With the sleek styling and quiet operation, this machine would not look too out of place...

Good choice on a budget
Review of HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9010 - P4 2.8 GHz - 15" TFT by
heidi_klein
Advantages: Comfortable keyboard, One touch buttons, volume buttons on the right side. IR, S-Video
Disadvantages: Heavy, slow performer, slow 3D graphics, 2 hrs battery life, location of fan
...anything standing next to it. The combination of the P4 processor and a very average battery means you only have about 2hrs 30mins before you require mains power. All in all its an attractive laptop and pretty decent for everyday use.
I wanted to network it to my home PC but whatever I did, I couldn't get it work. Having a look around the internet I found a few people with similar problems. Other than that it is a lovely machine. Nice sized screen (15inches), I don't think you should go below 15inches for a laptop screen. It's not the lightest but normally any travelling it does is in my car so I'm not too fussed.
Basic specs for HP Compaq nx9010 series
Processor-- Intel Mobile Pentium 4 (3.06 GHz)
RAM installed-- 256 MB DDR SDRAM
Hard drive-- 40 GB IDE
CD / DVD type-- CD-RW / DVD-ROM combo
Removable...

Review of Compaq Presario 7477 - K6-2 by
SlimmyJimmy
Advantages: Fast, Fast, FAST!!! (Oh yeah... and easy to set up and use, too.)
Disadvantages: Huh?!!? No stereo speakers?!?!
...model was definitely a much better buy. And the computer with the most "bang" – at least on paper, anyway – was the Compaq Presario 5004US. After discussing different models with the salesman for 30 minutes, and weighing my options for nearly another hour, I paid the man $1,149 and eagerly walked out with my new "screamer."
HERE'S WHAT I GOT WITH MY COMPAQ PRESARIO 5004US:
Hardware:
* AMD Athlon(TM) Processor running at 1.102 GHz.
* 200 MHz system bus
* Enhanced 3D Now!(TM) video technology
* 16 MB Nvidia TNT2 M64 PRO graphics card
* SoundMax Digital Audio system
* 128 MB RAM, 100 MHz
* 60 GB hard disk drive
* 8X/4X/24X DVD-ROM drive
* 8X/4X/32X CD-RW drive
* 56K V.90 modem
* 10/100Mb PCI network interface card
* 1 parallel port
* PS2 mouse port
* 4 USB ports (2 in front, 2 in back; 1 required for keyboard...

HP make burning CDs Easy Peasy
Review of HP CD-Writer Plus 9150i by
hpcs7350
Advantages: Ease of installation and use, reasonable price
Disadvantages: IDE connection is lower than SCSI
...I had been umming and aahing about buying a CD-RW for some time and I finally settled on the HP 9150i, mainly because of the very reasonable price, but also because it seemed a lot easier to fit and install than a SCSI model. HP really couldn't have made it easier. They provide a CD which not only plays you a video to follow, but also checks your computer to tell you what jumper settings and IDE cable to use for the best results.
Whilst looking into different CD-RWs, I was told time and time again that the software for copying CDs was as important as the hardware itself. The HP 9150i's software is very intuitive to use with excellent results when both copying a whole CD and making a compilation fom many CDs. There is a update which is downloadable from the web (5MB, so do it at the weekend!) which adds a few more features...

Hewlett Packard CDRW under another name!
Review of Medion MD 9340 by
cagney15
Advantages: Price. Cheap and cheerfull
Disadvantages: So slow, poor software.
...If you visit your local PC WORLD store you will see this CDRW on the shelf, closer inspection will reveal that it is in fact made by HP (they have there name stamped right on the front of it)but its sold under a Dixsons exclusive name.The drive is one of the older slower HP's from the group before the 9310i, it features a 4x4x32speed, but I have struggled to get any where near this, averaging about half these speeds, the package included the Nero software for burning the disks which whilst Ok is not as good as 'Easy Cd creator' but it does the job. At the price (£119.00)I suppose I shouldnt grumble but unless you are strapped for cash dont be tempted by the HP logo on this CDRW as you will soon wish you had spent an extra £50.00 on a newer quicker model....

Recently purchased laptop
Review of Compaq Evo Notebook N400c - PIII 850 MHz - 12.1" TFT by
crazy_kasper
Advantages: slim line light weight design
Disadvantages: no internal drives
...I recently purchased this laptop second hand from eBay was a good buy but as it didn’t come with a cd drive or a floppy drive I purchased the mobile expansion unit with a FDD and cdrw/dvdrom.
The model of this laptop I purchased was the 850mhz model with 256mb of ram and a 40GB HDD without the optional wireless support.
This laptop is ideally suited to a on-the-go person due to its slim and light design and if the mobile expansion unit is purchased it can then be used by power users both in the office and on the move and even with the expansion unit attached it is still fairly light weight and as the expansion unit has empty ports you can put in whatever things take your fancy, an extra battery is one I'm thinking of, however the laptop its self can support 2 batteries at once without the expansion unit according to Compaq how ever I...

Compaq good or bad
Review of Compaq (Shop) by
kingcoop
Advantages: Has everything at reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: Not as well known as it should be.
...Compaq is a very good place to buy all of your computer software and hardware.I frequently visit because I have never visited and found that they do not have what I am searching for but if they ever did I know they would have it in just a couple of days.This place is good for people of any age because it has everything from computer games to hard drives.There are plenty of Compaq retailers around so where ever you live you shouldn't have to travel far to get to a store.It is also a lot cheaper than most places even though it sells all the same quality goods....

8250i - write with ease
Review of HP CD-Writer 8250i by
rowemg
Advantages: easy use, reliable
Disadvantages: install needs some PC knowledge
...great Dc writer this it is easy to use and has easycd bundled with it at a reasonable price.
It is a 24x4x4 machine
That means 24 times read, 4 times write, and 4 times re-write.
HP have produced cdrw drives for a long time now and although you can get faster models now this is still a good but if you are on abudget and looking for a reliable cdrw drive.
Easycd makes the creation process easy and many 3rd party software packages supprt this drive so you can move to abetter piece of software if you want. (try the musicmatch jukebox if you want to convert mp3's to audio cd's)
Installation is fairly easy if you are computer literate but if not you may want to get it put in by someone who is. it would be a shame to mess up your PC after all.
Good product with a proven history...
