Often, they are identical models too, Canon have made a lot of printers for HP in the past. This time was different, the HP was the cheapest colour laser I could find where the cartridge prices were also reasonable. Being a laser printer, these do take drums as well as toner cartridges. All laser printers do, but the cartridges for this one come together with the drum. ...cartridges every day. Considering the quantity of prints we only seem to change the cartridges every few weeks. The other part that needs to be changed (normally done by a service engineer, although we have done it ourselves) is called the colour laserjet image fuser kit, this does something to fix the colour powders to the paper. I do not know the price of the fuser kit, the cartridges are available at the following price black £136 ex vat, the three different colour cartridges are £191 ex vat each. That sounds very expensive, but for the length of time they last and the amount of prints it is good value. The quality of prints both black and white and colour is of the highest possible standard and easily produces very professional documents. Obviously the better the paper the better the results. ...Now we are getting into the heavyweight area of office printer. The Hewlett Packard Colour LaserJet 5500n has been around for a few years now so the price has come down a little and you should be able to get them for around a thousand pounds. Beware if your buying second hand that you're getting all good consumables for that kind of money, ask for a print of the configuration page before you agree a price. The configuration page will show how many pages the machine has printed and the amount of errors that have occurred. Also ask for a print of the consumable levels, this will show how much of each of the Toners are left, and also the amount of life left in the Transfer and Fuser, all these items are classed as consumables and will have to be replaced in time, however you don't want to have to spend any extra money having just bought...
