...The Compaq Presario CQ60 has proved to be very good value for money. I paid £380 in January '09 and it has worked perfectly since. The wireless has a good range and the screen quality is outstanding. Everything else works how it should and the only real negative is a not-so-great battery life (approx 2 hrs on power saver). All in all, good for games (mine has a separate graphics card - not sure if standard?), word processing, internet and general use. One thing I particularly like is the larger screen size that results from having an integrated number pad on the keyboard. However the larger size does result in a heavy laptop. As of yet I have had no technical issues what so ever with this laptop and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a laptop on a budget! Hope this was of some help! Good Laptop for basic use

Advantages: Good basic laptop for internet use, youtube, and word processing
Disadvantages: quite heavy and not as easy to carry around.

...This is a good laptop that I purchased from Tesco for £299.00, so far it has proved to be a good machine and I am certainly very happy with it. It's easy to set up - just turn it on and follow the on screen instructions. It does take about half an hour though before its set up and ready to use. I have found the laptop to be fairly fast, its great for internet browsing and youtube, I have also loaded a couple of games onto it and they run nicely, although its worth noting that this isn't really a gaming laptop! I mostly enjoy it for the internet, it is reliable and allows me to do word processing too. For the same price I could have purchased a fairly good netbook, however, I chose to go for this as it came with the Windows Vista operating System (most netbooks come with XP) and it was slightly better when it came to specifications...

HP Compaq nx7300 - Good for business

Advantages: Great overall build quality, great screen, it's fast enough for you old man

It's the first time I have seen an HP/Compaq laptop, but I've used many other brands so I'll be mainly using them as a comparison. At first glance, the laptop has a very ordinary design, but when you pick it up you quickly appreciate the build quality. It is quite light, and yet very sturdy, and feels like it could happily take a few knocks ( lucky as my stepdad has a short temper!! ). I also really like the keyboard, it feels great to type on and there is no "give" like my own current laptop ( an Acer Ferrari ).
