Compaq D510 - solid corporate PC
Review of Compaq Evo D510 - P4 2.4 GHz by
judson
Advantages: Flexible, Robust, Easy to service
Disadvantages: No USB ports on front
...As with many Compaq models you have the option of setting up your PC as a tower or dektop, and this Evo is one. In addition, you are also able to change the position of the CD/DVD & Floppy drives as required. So whether the case is standing on edge or lying on its side, the CD-ROM and DVD drives have their typical horizontal placement.
HP also includes an extensive array of sophisticated manageability tools for system administrators, the Intelligent Manageability software suite encompasses tools for such remote management activities as system diagnostics via a Web browser, system wake-up, and the ability to disable USB and serial ports and to lock down the BIOS to secure boot-up sequences. The keyboard has programmable hot-keys for accessing the Internet.
The base configuration of the D510 has integrated graphics. And for businesses...

MY FAVOURITE PC
Review of Compaq Evo D510 - P4 2.4 GHz by
olijt20
Advantages: Sleek Look, Very Good Spec, Easy to store,
Disadvantages: Not a games machine
...In Late July 2003 I got a new job at an IT reseller so understandably a home computer was now essential. As with any big purchase I shopped around and looked at the competition e.g. Dell, Tiny etc. As my parents had brought a Packard Bell seven years previously I gave PC World a wide berth knowing they were overpriced and the machines were sub standard.
Eventually one of my colleagues recommended a company that supplied many offices (www.microwarehouse.co.uk) and as luck would have it they had a sale at the time.
After browsing their stock list I eventually opted for a desktop Compaq EVO D510 with a Pentium 4 Processor, the cost of the base unit was scarcely believable at just £389. I also brought a 17 Inch monitor and an internal modem. The total cost was a bargain at just £608 Inc VAT.
The basic specifications of the machine...

Compaq Evo D510
Review of Compaq Evo D510 - P4 2 GHz by
mdallen
Advantages: Small Form Factor but still space inside
Disadvantages: Cabling can be tight
...We have 800 of these and so far they have been great. Reliability wise we have only had a few problems over the last 2 years where a couple of power supplies have popped.
Do not be scared of the small form factor - these boxes can still hold extra stuff. We had quite tight requirements for the boxes we needed. Basically, we wanted to add an IDE Raid card, an extra hard disk, and 1GB or RAM. All of this was possible inside this tiny box. The floppy can be removed as not many people use them these days, and in its place you can install another hard disk. The case does have the opening for the floppy on the front, but it doesn't look bad.
As I mentioned in the title, the box can be tight for cabling, but you'd expect that for the size.
The only annoyance with the box is the mechanism for lifting the drives. Removing the case...

Review of Compaq Presario 2810EA
Review of Compaq Presario 2810EA - P4-M 1.4 GHz - 15" TFT by
neil1424
Advantages: Fast for a Compaq laptop, not bad price, nice size hd
Disadvantages: bit ugly, not very light for carrying around, quite large
...Compaq may not make the most desirable looking laptops, and this most certainly isn't going to make you fall in love with it, but I do like this laptop which I got a while ago for only £700!
with 1.4Ghz P4-M, quite fast for a Compaq laptop, and a nice graphics card (mine came with a 128mb radeon gfx card) games and applications run nice and fast on this laptop
What drew me to this was the 30 gig hard drive also, a definate bonus for my work, especially at this price.
The main problem I have found though is the bulk of the laptop. It is very wide and heavy, not the idea for carrying around. I would probably have not bought the laptop if I had known I was going to carry it around a lot.
The laptop comes with the usual software packages, windows XP home ed., MS Office applications, Windows Media player etc.
There were...

P4 3.2GHz CPU with 512Kb Cache! Expensive but fast
Review of Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor by
Deru
Advantages: FAST, Retail box comes with fan, sticker, manual
Disadvantages: More expensive than Celerons, AMDs, etc
...not support Prescott CPU’s but I knew for a fact that mine does (it said so on the box!) so something was definitely wrong. Anyway, while I was trying to get it to work, I also looked up some benchmarks (tests) of the performance of these two CPU’s. I found out that a lot of people dislike the Prescott core found on the newer P4 CPU’s because of the extra heat they generate (CPU’s need to be kept cool), and because their performance isn’t much different from the Northwood for most tasks. I RMA’ed the CPU, got my money back, and bought the Northwood version instead. I would recommend this Northwood over the Prescott.
The main reason I wanted the 3.2GHz processor is because it is the highest clock speed my motherboard supportedt the time) so I’d be making the most of my motherboard, and an obvious reason being, it fits into the CPU socket of my...

Compaq Evo N800 lasts and lasts and lasts
Review of Compaq Evo Notebook N800v - P4-M 2 GHz - 15" TFT by
JustPMit
Advantages: Reliable, Durable, Great display, Portable desktop
Disadvantages: None
...to say here is that there is nothing in a stupid place (USB ports are around the back where they should be and not on the side where your sticks etc get in the way of your mouse).
Typical 3kg weight makes this portable and with all the connectivity options I've given presentations and ran workshops on a variety of external peripherals including a few cinema systems (fantastic).
Speed has never been a problem with the P4 2GHz processor - even today.
Not had a single problem with the keyboard despite very heavy use.
I've only had to replace 2 things: the hard disk (3 months ago) and the cable for the laptop display.
The only problem with the Evo is that it hasn't given me a single solitary reason for me to buy a new, better Laptop!!! Normally I look forward to that pleasure every 2-3 years but no such luck here - it's still...

Great business machine
Review of Compaq Evo D510 Ultra-Slim - P4 2 GHz by
pob0782
Advantages: small form factor, cheap, fast, reliable, good support
Disadvantages: lack of space to upgrade
...When Compaq was bought out by HP, there was some concern as to the loss of the Compaq brand and a reduction in quality of desktop and server machines.
I am pleased to say that this has not happened. The Compaq Evo D510 is a worthy machine and packs a lot of power into a small space.
The basic specs of the machine are:
2.4GHz Pentium 4, 256MB, 40GB, CD-ROM, onboard sound, AGP Video, LAN, Modem, black case, TFT monitor
Available from £600+vat (even PC World are keeping prices on this quite low) the machine definitely has a lot of features for the price. Although not designed as a gaming machine, the PC will perform (though you may want to change the graphics card for the more demanding games).
The machine comes with a return to base warranty and this is a good all round solution for most people. If you want to upgrade...

Intel Pentium 4 2.4b
Review of Intel P4 2.40B 512KB S478 Box 533FSB by
Rabid
Advantages: Very fast, highly overclockable, quite cheap now
Disadvantages: None
...be placed into 4 year old motherboards (consult your motherboards manual or manufacturers website if you have any concerns about being able to use the newer Pentium 4's).
The older P4's use a 0.18 micron whereas the P4 2.4B uses 0.13 micron, basically this means that the CPU's transistors are more closely spaced together offering higher performance and significantly less heat (which is good).
The P4 2.4B also uses a much faster front side bus, on the older P4's this used to be 100mhz quad pumped which translates into 400mhz, on the 2.4B this has increased to 133mhz quad pumped and now runs on a 533 FSB, this increase offers significantly faster performance and if you can imagine two Pentium 4's both say 2.0ghz and one running at 400mhz and the other at 533mhz then the one at 533mhz would be pushing out alot more speed which makes...

HP Compaq DC7800 *****
Review of HP Compaq Business Desktop dc7800 - Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz by
boaler88
Advantages: Very stylish, reliable high specification PC
Disadvantages: HP software not really needed.
...The hp dc7800 is a brilliant consumer product,
i currently work for a computer firm and we have had quite a few HP deskyop PCs brought in and installed for our clients.
The Hp desktops are very reliable and speedy machines, they tend to come complete with manufacturer software such as:-
- Roxio CD/DVD creator
- HP system software manager
- HP protest tools security software
The hp software is not really needed but the roxio cd/dvd creatpr is very useful.
This PC will be perfect for business use, and possibly a decent gaming machine.
Samll review on the installed hardware
PROCESSOR
- Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz
very speedy processor, reliable and fast, perfect for multifunction tasks.
MOTHERBOARD
- Intel Q35 Express
very fast and reliable motherboard, with a bus speed of 1066Mhz this mainboard would...
