Advantages: HP for word processing / Epson for images

...Which printer to buy? Forget all else, if you want a decent balance between image and word processing then you will probably find that it will have to be HP or Epson. The average HP DeskJet printer provides quicker printouts, excellent document definition, but fails to achieve the outstanding image quality that Epsons deliver. I have had several different models of each printer manufacturer, and I now use a HP DeskJet 710C which has given me, on average, very good results. Still every time I want to print a photograph on photo paper, I still go for the Epson Stylus Colour. Mind you HPs can deliver good picture quality too. One last word, if you are clumsy and have a desk full of things all the time, then go for an Epson. HP ink takes much longer to dry - you’re bound to get your work and your hands smudged very easily!... Read review

Advantages: Auto feeds paper, uses flashing lights & on PC screen that the ink needs refilling.
Disadvantages: Plastic paper tray rather flimsy but thats because when not in use it bends flat.

...I use this printer for all my personal & book catalogue printing. For me it prints very sharp & extremly clear on all occasions it is used & does all I would expect it too without taking too long which is an nice bonus compared to previous printers. For the book catalogue its printing of colour is a great enhancement & makes the clip art stand out well, as is its ability to collate pages. I have used other makes of printer in past but have consistantly found that the HP range is much better & continues to give me the quality & reliability I want. Hence any future purchase's for another printer would have a HP at the top of my buying list.... Read review

...My brother purchased an HP Desktop computer recently from Circuit City. He managed to find a great deal on this printer... free. I was a little skeptical at first because of the "free printer" deal, but I've known HP to be a reasonable printer in the last few years. I have two other HP printers at home... a 732C and a 610C, and I've enjoyed all of them for the most part. The 610C has given me some quality problems, but that's not what this opinion article is about. I've enjoyed the high quality of the 842C and have recommended it to all of my friends for it's ability to conserve ink better than most Canons and Lexmarks. In the long run I think that this printer has been a good deal, and as far as cost, well... print cartridges aren't cheap anymore, as we all know, but saving money on a printer that will conserve ink is worth the extra... ...The HP 840C is my second HP printer, my first one being the 640C which I purchased a couple of years ago. I have had my HP 840C for 6 months now and i'm very happy with it. It has been a very sturdy machine, with good, fast printing speeds, excellent quality printing both on cheap and expensive paper, and also you dont need to use it on best quality to get good results as the standard quality is good enough for most jobs. I haven't seen a better printer for printing out photos on than the photo quality that we can see in this printer when used with HP photo quality paper. Operation of this machine and maintenance tasks like changing ink cartridges is an absolute doddle. I haven't had to replace my cartridges yet however because this printer is very economical when it comes to ink use and you can also use cheap paper for generic tasks... Read review

Advantages: Good quality,easy to set up

...Because we use HP printers I get to see the downside of them very quickly. A good part of my job is repairing them and we've got about 1000. This is the first model we've taken that I've been impressed enough with to get one for myself. It's not just that it's capable of very good quality prints on a range of media but it's easy to set up and maintain. Most importantly though HP have fianlly managed to write a decent print driver for an inkjet for possibly the first time. We have more problems caused by HP inkjet print drivers than any over piece of software. The 950 also doesn't suffer from any of the problems of the earlier models, overflowing ink receptacles, smooth rollers and time spent aligning the cartridges. For the price of about £150 HP have finally got a printer worth recommending.... Read review

...I bought my HP Deskjet 970 CXI in March this year. Compared to other printers I have used it is very professional. It has the option to printer both sides of the paper at once. Very clear, fast and sharp printing. Looks very good. Lovely quality when printing photographs. Includes the option of USB which is very handy when you use more than one printer and USB is faster. The only problem I had was when installing the USB driver. I had to telephone them. Their support was excellent and they helped me out very quickly. This printer allows me to cancel print jobs easily unlike the other HP Deskjet printers I have had.... Read review
