Usually when somebody asks me to find them a laptop for their needs, I can do it swiftly, effectively and find them their perfect laptop. This was not to be the case with me, I sat there for hours and hours going through supplier products. The main 3 I whittled myself down to where Toshiba, HP and Acer. I already had a Toshiba and to be honest, I really thought the speakers on their new version looked naff. Acer, a pretty budget make and often need repair. Hp DV9030ea media entertainment system - Excellent but overheats

Advantages: Powerfull, stylish, many featured, Large display with built in camera and full Keyboard.
Disadvantages: Overheating, noisy fan and short battery life. It's large and Heavy.

...The laptop is a powerfull laptop with a 1.8x2 ghz processor and Nvidea Go 7600 256mb graphics card and looks very stylish but has a terrible overheating problem which you can feel if you have it balanced on your legs; even with space for the fan your always jiggleing it about wondering if it has enough air (The fan is quite noisy). It has a large 17inch display, bluetooth and built in camera and touchpad. Full sized keyboard. Touch panel buttons for media centre and quickplay. 4 USB ports, express card slot with tv aereal I like it a lot but it burns out once a year. The graphics card is fixed to the motherboard so when it goes you have to replace the motherboard too. HP did give me a great fast service on the extended warrantly on this problem (see the website under dv9030ea) but the problem is the pain of having to keep replacing...

HP Pavilion DV2130ea made for everything!!!

Advantages: remote control, in-built camera, HP imprint finish, 120GB, Core Duo processor
Disadvantages: didn't find any jet.

...I bought my HP Pavilion dv21360ea in november last year. The advantage to buy new laptop at this time, is that you'll be able to upgrade to new Windows Vista which will be available broadly January 30, 2007. So if you get a new laptop between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007 you will be able to uprade for free to Windows Vista. I have already order it from HP site. It's really easy to do and the only fees you have to pay are packaging and delivery (which is around 12£). General & Extras The laptop itself is great. Compact, light enough to carry around and powerfull too. A 14.1 inch widescreen display that is HD ready and features HP BrightView technology makes watching films thrilling. DVD recorder makes writing your favorite movies into DVD's very easy. I really like that little add-ons, for example nice little remote...

HP Pavilion dv4145EA Review

Advantages: good speed, wireless card fitted
Disadvantages: no bluetooth, no camera, problem with DVD burner

.... Everything was nicely illustrated in the purchase booklet (what we call as guide notes!) . So as i turned it on, the installation wizard was there to bore me. It took several minutes for me to get the laptop open. I had to install the drivers and all such stuffs. But i am proud I did it. he he. Finally everything was ready for me. It was so fast , so great looking on my desk. I didn't have internet connection that time though. Even though i enjoyed the features on it. It was simply the best. GOODIES: Now i still like it and the most i like on this one is the speed on which this works. It is incredibly speed. May be great power. I had some problems in the past like about 2-3 months ago but i could fix it with the information and the technical help provided on the hp website and the hp user manual. Advantages: great entertainment laptop
Disadvantages: portability

...This laptop is the HP Pavilion dv9820ea Entertainment. The Hp Pavilion models are made mainly for gaiming, watching movies on and various other entertainment needs whilst not compromising the ability to od serious work on these as well. One thing that is compromised though is the portability, entertainment laptops are made to keep at home and not really to carry about with you all the time, so whilst the specification may look good, don?t expect one of these to be very portable. The Pavilion dv9820ea combines two colours, silver and black in order to make it look very up to date and futuristic even. It appears nice and rounded, and its shell makes the laptop feel very stable and robust. The installed ram on this laptop is great, it has a massive 3gb which is the main reason this laptop runs so fast, also the AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile...

The HP dv6238ea (UPDATED REVIEW!!!)

Advantages: elegant, reasonably priced, splendid specifications
Disadvantages: mediocre battery life (6 CELL), WXGA HD display flaws a little under direct sunlight, "quick play" sounds cannot be muted.

As has become the trend, most manufactures including HP based on the new abilities of operating systems have decided to "stay" with harddisk partitioning thus creating a dedicated recovery hard disk and a separate hard disk for user data. By this the users data remains unaffected in the event of a system failure and subsequent recovery using the incorporated recovery mechanisms. This eliminates the need for CD's and DVD's. It is recommended though that the adamant user creates self recovery disk in the event of a defiant malware attack or instability. Instructions on doing this is giving in a leaflet shipped with the dv6238ea. As with all the HP entertainment laptops, the model includes a simple remote control optimized for Vista. Powerhouse laptop that isn't that portable the HDX9430 EA

Advantages: Screen size, power, brilliant graphics, looks, extras
Disadvantages: Size, weight, small(ish) storage

...I bought one of these just over 12 months ago, in that time I have upgraded both had drives and had it back to HP for repair (more on that in a minute). First of this thing is huge, I mean massive, don't think its not a blot bigger than a 17" screened laptop, it is trust me its so big it doesn't fit on average sized peoples laps. Its heavy, it weights around 7kg (about 15lbs in old money I think) thats a lot, you won't be casually carrying this in one hand and your coffe in the other, it is so heavy it generates it own gravity field and sherpas are required to move it further than 15feet. So thats the bad bits, overall its fantastic, the capabilities of this machine mean that I am running Conan: Age of Hyborea at full detail and its brilliantly smooth, the keyboard is very good and quite central with a number pad at the LH side...

A top-quality machine from HP

Advantages: Looks brilliant, huge screen, very powerful
Disadvantages: Size and weight (only to be expected), short battery time

...comparison. When the screen is black, it also serves as a mirror, because it is so reflective. Because of this reflectiveness, the brightness sometimes needs to be turned up in bright sunlight, but this can easily be done with a few presses of function+f8. Keyboard and Touchpad: The keyboard is the standard size, QWERTY thing that everyone is used to, but the difference with this laptop is the presence of the num pad. This means that when typing, your hands are shifted over to the left slightly, which is why the touchpad is off-centred, so your palms don't touch the pad while you type (clever guys at HP). The touch pad takes quite a bit of getting used to, and will probably need a lot of adjusting so that you get it working how you want it to. The problem with being such a big screen is that it takes so long for the cursor to travel...
