Very good
Review of HP OmniBook 900 - PIII 500 MHz - 13.3" TFT by petermantell

Advantages: Good build quality, excellent support
Disadvantages: None really

...I bought this product second hand, and found it to be very satisfactory. The laptop had lasted very well, and was in excellent condition (i.e. the build quality was good). It is a very stable machine as well, and the hardware support from HP is excellent. My only gripe with this laptop is the connection for the external CD drive, which has a flimsy cover over its port. The double mouse is very good and the screen is excellent quality. I would definitely buy one of these again if not another HP laptop.... Read review

Are Compaq really any worst than other suppliers!!
Review of Compaq Deskpro EP 6500 III - PIII 500 MHz by sdsuk

Advantages: Easy to work on, good support
Disadvantages: Rather large footprint

...I have run a IT department for over 10 years and have seen many Computer suppliers in that time. I have now standarized on Compaq throughout the company for Desktops because I find that they have worked hard on what used to be very poor in customer service. We tend to now buy EP series because they suit our needs. We are not power users but use standard off the shelf products like Microsoft Office Pro and terminal emulation software for accessing our Unix system. The speeds are more than adequate for most users, why do you need disc access speeds of .00000001 msec if you are only typing memos and reports with 2 fingers. Service calls , which I must admit are not often, are dealt with in an efficient manner by Compaq Direct. Users Manuals are never opened by most users so why spend huges budgets on them. We currently operate about 120... Read review

Compaq EN Series
Review of Compaq Deskpro EN Space Saver - PIII 933 MHz by huntingtower

Advantages: Support, ease of maintenance, advanced diagnostics
Disadvantages: Can be slightly slower

...These PCs may not be lightning fast but then they're not meant to be. Not to say they're slow just not as fast as the fastest available. Where they excel is support and ease of maintenance. I have had occasion to log fault calls with Dell, HP and Compaq for fault calls and Compaq win. People take ownership of problems there and you're not passed from pillar to post. Logging warranty calls is straight forward - you don't spend half the morning trying to persuade them what the problem is when he is only half way through page nineteen of his diagnosis script - Compaq are a bit better than that and seem to be capable of independant thought. In terms of design the EN is first class- everything slides together and you don't have to take everything else out to fit a drive. Even the motherboard is on rails - handy if the MD is breathing down... Read review

Compaq's are very reliable.
Review of Compaq Deskpro EN Space Saver - PIII 933 MHz by Snowman99

Advantages: Good Solid reliable computer
Disadvantages: Fiddly to upgrade the memory or hard drive.

...I run a charity that gives computers to disabled peole. Mostly, I have had Compaq computers donated to me for this project and I can honestly say that they are about 99% reliable. Of the over 300+ computers donated so far,270+ have been Deskpro EN series, and I have only had 3 callbacks for problems on the units.Normally a plug I hadn't pushed in properly. All the other have proved to be no problem at all. I myself use a Deskpro EN at home, and it has worked flawlessly for over 1.5 years, and its on 24 hours a day. It is also the server for a local LAN in my house, and is the master for Internet connection sharing. Faultless in operation, I would not hesitate to recommend this marque to anybody looking for a reliable unit. Any business looking for long term reliability, and a good strong workhorse should definately consider a Compaq... Read review

compaq systems
Review of Compaq Presario 7477 - K6-2 by jonlell

Advantages: convenient all-in-one appearence
Disadvantages: limited upgradability.

...i pesonally have found package systems such as compaqs to be very anti-upgradable. they are supplied in cases that are tricky to remove and the internal layout of the system is very confused. An example of this is the powerpaq series some of which even have integrated graphics and sound, even in this modern age, making it very tricky to upgrade from the sub standard intel integrated graphics and audio. the systems also appeared to be sluggish at best when playing modern power hungry games such as unreal tournament ona system spec-ed at a prety powerful pIII 750mhz. It is true to say that compaq have vast experience from being around for a vast amount of time, but they appear to continue to make systems for low end home users who have little interest in upgrading the system at a later date. as for customer support they do pick themselves... Compaq now HP supported
Review of Compaq Professional AP200 - PIII 500 MHz by Bill-S

Advantages: Easy access, still enough power!
Disadvantages: Old cases are large, heavy, limited CPU speed

...I bought these desktop from The boxshop in MN, I have a hobby of giving old used PCs a new lease on life and I found the 1 star review sadly lacking in computer knowledge. The PC is old and is far from cutting edge now, and at the time, the mobo dates back to 1998 so expecting 2007 performance is not what one should be hoping for with this Workstation. Compared to Compaq's current parent company; HP, their dual processor Workstations (Kayak) I also bought used... Those are more built around Pentium II support with Intel North and Southbridge were recently heralded by non other then Maximum PC in it's documenting the evolution of Computer technology, and it was nice to know I had the pleasure of using some of the landmark tech. I had an Apple ][ only for many years but fell out of favor with the Mac becoming the only Apple product... Read review

I will never buy a Compaq again
Review of Compaq Armada 110 - PIII 800 MHz - 14.1" TFT by dreganbacon

Advantages: Inexpensive compared to similar spec'd machines
Disadvantages: Trackball mouse inefficient and not easy to use, build quality terrible, heavy with provided battery

...Having purchased my Compaq Armada 110s based mostly on budgetary constraints, I suppose I have to blame it on myself that this machine disappoints. I have owned the Armada for a year and a half now, and have experienced many problems both hardware- and software-related. To dismiss the software complaints, my laptop came installed with Windows Millenium, to which I have had to add several patches to make the machine work consistently. Compaq support people were reasonably helpful about these problems, although utlimately a self-help approach was the rule (they directed me to downloads on the web to try to fix the problems myself, and blamed it on the Microsoft software). The main problem in this department was to do with the display adapters, meaning that my screen repeatedly shut down for no apparent reason. Having 'fixed... Read review

Compaq Evo N600c little soldier!
Review of Compaq Evo Notebook N600c - PIII-M 1.2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by gt5952

Advantages: Durable, loads of fixes on the hp site, quite nifty for its age
Disadvantages: just getting on a bit

...Hi and welcome to my review of the Compaq Evo N600c. Please look for my video review which should be up in the next few days or so. This item isnt available new, but is well worth a purchase second hand. As with all my reviews, items are used in the most demanding places around the world, they dont always survive, but this little baby has done me proud. Without any replacement parts (Not even a battery!) it has survived in several continents and in extreme temperatures and conditions (see below) The Compaq N600c is a hard wearing reliable laptop that can easily kick the rear end out of even the newest of models. Its construction is fantastic, meaning that even when dropped, it usually survives! All bits and bobs can be pulled out and replaced with ease, i.e. the DVD can be removed, and replaced with a floppy, the Hard disk can... Read review

Why Buy a Tecra?
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8100 - PIII 600 MHz - 14.1" TFT by cdawkins

Advantages: Fast, Great Graphics Chip, Light (2.6kg)
Disadvantages: Expensive, Sensitive to registry changes

...Why did I buy the Tecra 8100? First of all what I wanted was a desktop replacement machine, one on which I could do all my spreadsheet and word stuff as well as play games. I am an engineer so I need good connectivity options as well. The choice was:- Dell Inspiron 3800, 5000, 7500 Toshiba Tecra 8100 HP Omnibook 6000 The Dells are very good machines, I used to old an old 7000 series. The 3800 is light and quite quick, the 5000 has all the multimedia features you need, the 7500 has even more. But... The 3800 is not meant to be used as a desktop replacement, it doesn't have the oomph for that. The 5000 and 7000 are great machines but heavy. The HP Omnibook is the machine I would probably buy by choice except that it is very expensive and uses the ATI graphics card The Tecra is not as expensive as the Omnibook and uses the S3 Savage MX... Schools Love Them
Review of Compaq Professional AP200 - PIII 500 MHz by ReviewDude

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Nasty, Slow, Old

...might like to have the tower on their desks so they can access the floppy drive easy and also maybe burn a CD. While you work you hear something that sounds like a hamster on it's wheel. Well in fact it's the poor 14gb hard drive. So this was no good for business use but what about home use? Maybe you want a computer for your kids bedroom which you can purchase cheaply. Well I still think it's rubbish even for that. The limited hard drive space will be filled up in no time if they decided to install a game or two. The graphics card is just too out of date and you really need a more up to date operating system. Your computers security will be a lot higher because Windows XP seems to have more bugs the a bug zapper... Why do Compaq like put their name in big red letters? It really bugs me when a computer changes the design of a tower just... Read review
