Hp DV9030ea media entertainment system - Excellent but overheats

Advantages: Powerfull, stylish, many featured, Large display with built in camera and full Keyboard.
Disadvantages: Overheating, noisy fan and short battery life. It's large and Heavy.

...The laptop is a powerfull laptop with a 1.8x2 ghz processor and Nvidea Go 7600 256mb graphics card and looks very stylish but has a terrible overheating problem which you can feel if you have it balanced on your legs; even with space for the fan your always jiggleing it about wondering if it has enough air (The fan is quite noisy). It has a large 17inch display, bluetooth and built in camera and touchpad. Full sized keyboard. Touch panel buttons for media centre and quickplay. 4 USB ports, express card slot with tv aereal I like it a lot but it burns out once a year. The graphics card is fixed to the motherboard so when it goes you have to replace the motherboard too. HP did give me a great fast service on the extended warrantly on this problem (see the website under dv9030ea) but the problem is the pain of having to keep replacing...

Media Center without an XBOX

Advantages: The media center interface, decent codec support, HD movies stream really well.
Disadvantages: The DVD player is terrible.

...Okay, the big pull of this DVD player is the built in Media Center Extender software, which once set up runs really well. You need to have vista installed on a PC (which needs to be on for it to work) and you also need a good network connection between the two. I have tried both a 200mbps powerline ethernet network and a wireless N network and for me the wireless network performed better for HD movies, but this will differ for most people so just make sure you arn't relying on a bog standard 54mbps wifi connection. The built in DVD play is poor to say the least, it doesn't scale DVD's out to widescreen it simply takes the DVD's basic resolution and outputs it to the middle of the screen. I tried watching an old cracker and had to stop as it was displayed as a 640x480 picture in the middle of my 720p HDTV, believe me this looks...

HP Pavilion DV6625em - high spec, shiny; questionable quality?

Advantages: Nice to use; wonderful screen and features
Disadvantages: Appalling customer service; cracks on lid; poor A/C adaptor reliability

...which was a nice touch. The unit was fairly lightweight, which was a relief after my previous heavy laptop, and it didn?t get too hot. Battery life was excellent and the software ran very smoothly because of the high specifications. There were also handy touchpad style keys to control media programs (ie stop, play, fast-forward and volume control buttons). Unfortunately there are other buttons on that row that will launch a HP Multimedia program, which happened by accident a fair bit. I would also have preferred a physical volume wheel but it?s not really a problem. The laptop also came with a remote-control for multimedia applications ? A top-quality machine from HP

Advantages: Looks brilliant, huge screen, very powerful
Disadvantages: Size and weight (only to be expected), short battery time

Because of this reflectiveness, the brightness sometimes needs to be turned up in bright sunlight, but this can easily be done with a few presses of function+f8. Keyboard and Touchpad: The keyboard is the standard size, QWERTY thing that everyone is used to, but the difference with this laptop is the presence of the num pad. This means that when typing, your hands are shifted over to the left slightly, which is why the touchpad is off-centred, so your palms don't touch the pad while you type (clever guys at HP). The touch pad takes quite a bit of getting used to, and will probably need a lot of adjusting so that you get it working how you want it to. I have taken a personal shine to this laptop immediately and is a vast improvement from my last laptop, which was not very old at all. The m7281.uk Media Center PC

Advantages: All-round entertainment system that keeps up with the best.
Disadvantages: Graphocs card could do with upgrading.

First of all its HP so you know you're going to get the good quality and performance. Especially with a pentium 4 3.2Ghz.
