Portable computing - iPAKing with a punch
Review of HP iPAQ Pocket PC Hx2490 by
bigfatdogs
Advantages: Powerful, fast, sleek
Disadvantages: Getting programs into the system
...iPaking with a Punch
=
I have had my iPak for about 2 years. At first I had difficulty switching over from using a written filofax to the iPaq. The beauty is that the calendar diary on this is absolutely fantastic, it remembers, and it lets you know when you need to do something.
My biggest difficulty and I suppose a bug bare I have with it is that it's hard to get programs for the iPaq. I have in effect what came with it along with a few I have bought from the HP site.
Another problem with it is that its really hungry on power. I find it runs down its charge quite quickly. Its important that you get a case for it to stop it scratching, and get extra pens for it, as they tend to go missing, or maybe its just me.
I have it connected through my wifi and its superb little browser, both at home outside when I want...

Fuzzy photos - a thing of the past
Review of HP PhotoSmart 145 by
mysteryshopper2
Advantages: Read op
Disadvantages: Read op
...Fuzzy wuzzy were 2 words, which sprung to mind every time I tried to print photos from my old photo printer (Epson Stylus C82), using my old digital camera. I saw more dots than on that yellow polka-dotted bikini from the 60’s generation. (NO! I don’t remember the original song & I never wore one either lol). As we were investing in a new, modern, digital cameral, it made sense to purchase a new photo printer at the same time. I wanted something, which would allow me to print photos that actually looked like photos.
After a lot of searching, I eventually settled on the HP Photosmart 145 printer. It is absolutely fantastic and so easy to use and with Curry’s special deal of £89 for the printer it was too good an offer to refuse.
First, let’s tackle the setup.

GET A SMART PICTURE WITH THIS.
Review of HP PhotoSmart 635 by
apatra
Advantages: ENOUGH TEHCIES AND FANTASTIC PICTURE QUALITY.
Disadvantages: YOU GET CONFUSED WITH THE TECHIE FEATURES AT TIMES.
.... And also an interface usb that is compatible with usb 2.0 specifications.
With an optional connectivity, hp photo smart 3.3-volt ac adapter and with 2AA batteries.
Compatible operations: Microsoft windows 98, me, 2000 professional xp professional and hp home edition. Also has HP photo and imaging software.
It weighs 0.41 pounds without 2AA battery and 0.52 pounds with 2AA.
SYSTEMS REQUIRED: Pentium II processor, celeron or compatible 64 MB RAM, 175mb free hard disk space, SUGA 800X 600, 16-bit display and memories disk creator software requires.
FANTASTIC FEATURES I think.
Note this, if you have a HP printer or computer, the software loading pics is even easier.
And if you are having problem with your batteries keep three sets of reachable rayoval ic3 6 total and you don’t forget to remove those batteries...

EXCELLENT PRINTING BUT CAN BE COSTLY
Review of HP 57 - print cartridge by
JAVER1967
Advantages: EXCELLENT PRINT QUALITY
Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE IF LOTS OF USAGE
...HP 57 TRI-COLOUR INKJET PRINT CARTRIDGE
You may have heard of a two car family, well I hate to say it that we are now a two printer family.
My wife who has a laptop was constantly using my printer for her own work and funnily enough, my ink cartridges were constantly running out, so we decided to invest in a second printer which takes HP cartridges number 56 (black) and number 57 (colour).
HP 57 PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
The packaging itself makes it look as if you are getting a larger cartridge than the one you actually get. For those of you that are into minimal packaging, then I would say that there is too much packaging, in the form of cardboard, and depending on where you buy them from, these are then further packaged into a see through plastic holder. The cartridges that I have bought recently come from various parts...

Cartridges
--------------
I have found that in the past the cartridges for certain printers are almost the same price and sometimes exceed the price of the actual printer itself. I thought it would be a good idea to look at the price of Cartridges before I took the plunge and purchased the printer.
Black Ink Cartridges are HP No 21, HP say these cartridges are great for home users and print with great clarity. This isn't ideal for high yield users and printing document after document will probably leave you running to the shops for a new cartridge before you have even learned how to use the printer's functions. Although you will be happy to learn...

Over Priced ???
Review of HP Vectra VLi8 - PII 400 MHz by
Lynx101
Advantages: Componants
Disadvantages: ?
...The first really high spec'd computer I bought was a Pentium II 266mhz Clone. The computer was built of many different componants and all seemed ok. I had the computer for just over one year and it was time to think of upgrading so I bought a PC100 32mb Dim. When I installed the ram it was quite difficult to get the thing in there. I was carefull and eventually got it in their but by doing it a had pushed down on the motherboard too much and wrecked it !!!!. I decided to go out and but an HP machine. Just by looking inside you can see that be paying a little more than a cloned pc you get real quality. The motherboard does not bend. The Hard disks are very quick. Dont buy rubbish...Spend a little more and get the good stuff !!!! Thanks Matt....

Almost an IT antique printing press
Review of HP Deskjet 720c by
peteshone
Advantages: Cheap 2nd hand, reliable, good quality print, kodak photo enhancement
Disadvantages: Hard to find even 2nd hand now, original cartridges expensive
.... Either cartridge can be replaced individually, saving expense if for example you do a lot of B&W printing. It has an external power supply to keep the size down, it is a relatively compact printer for its age.
PAPER
Paper is stored in a 100 sheet feeder tray at the front, and output is also stored at the front. Paper can be plain copier, no special inkjet paper is required although photo images are only worthwhile on special papers.
RESOLUTION
Resolution is a measly 600dpi x 600dpi, but due to incorporation of HP / Kodak Photo Resolution Enhancement technology II (PhotoREt II) which delivers smaller ink drops and more colour shades photo quality is surprisingly good. Also assisting in raising photo quality are the software drivers, HP ColorSmart II, which ensures good colour reproduction by automatically adjusting colour settings...
