I am pleased to say that this has not happened. The Compaq Evo D510 is a worthy machine and packs a lot of power into a small space. ...HP really have got it completely right with this box. If you're looking for a PC based till, then this is the box for you. Using the standard desktop PC as a base, adding some extras, and targetting it at a specific use really has worked here. The RP5000 is very similar to the HP Compaq Small form factor desktops, however, they've taken into account the fact the box needs to be able to cope with the less than ideal situations a shop floor can bring. They have added an extra cooling fan which is thermal controlled allowing the box to be used in small and often confined spaces. Other manufacturers in this area offer solutions with either serial or USB ports. The RP5000 offers both 12V and 24V powered USB, and 4 (yes 4) RS232 serial ports. ...This is one of the superb computers added by HP. One of the fasted computers installed with windows vista because it has 2GB RAM. Double layered DVD rewriter is excellent. The Chassis is well built. It is the right choice for business purpose. This is also good choice for home use also. HP has one problem regarding Drivers i.e. they do not ship driver CD with product, this is the same problem which this product suffers. I would have felt happy if they shipped driver CD with this product. The chassis is good but it should have been more compact for space management. Processor it shipped with is one of the best, fastest, power efficient noise less and unique. I want to recommend this product for all short of people.... Read review

...Hewlett Packard's latest offering is a budget PC that's geared towards budding digital photographers. Until recently, a budget PC may not have been able to run the software needed to edit digital pictures at a decent enough speed, but with the 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 contained processor in this Pavilion, that shouldn't be any problem. This is helpfully complemented by 512Mb of memory and a generous 160Gb hard disk. The memory only takes up one of the four slots on the motherboard, so you can easily add some more at a later date. The Pavilion comes with a 128Mb ATI Radeon X300SE graphics card. This might struggle with some of the latest 3D games at high detail levels, but it's very capable of dealing with anything else. I've used it with a few games and it handled them all brilliantly so until some new games requiring superior technlogy... Read review

...My company presented me with a HP Compaq lap top for work use in May 2005 with the Windows XP operating system loaded on it & this is a tale of those two & half years of daily use. The cost at the time this lap top was on the market was £999.99. My first impression of this lap top was its weight, despite the figure of 3.5kg from HP it actually weighs over 5kg which for carrying around every day is quite heavy especially when you consider the weight of the power lead/adaptor etc to add to that. The general finish is quite good with a decent keyboard & screen; it features three USB sockets, two at the rear & one on the side. On the left hand side of the lap top is a phone connection socket, socket for a 3G card & floppy drive. On the other side you have the CD/DVD drive, headphones & microphone sockets & one USB socket. Advantages: Fast for a Compaq laptop, not bad price, nice size hd
Disadvantages: bit ugly, not very light for carrying around, quite large

...Compaq may not make the most desirable looking laptops, and this most certainly isn't going to make you fall in love with it, but I do like this laptop which I got a while ago for only £700! with 1.4Ghz P4-M, quite fast for a Compaq laptop, and a nice graphics card (mine came with a 128mb radeon gfx card) games and applications run nice and fast on this laptop What drew me to this was the 30 gig hard drive also, a definate bonus for my work, especially at this price. The main problem I have found though is the bulk of the laptop. It is very wide and heavy, not the idea for carrying around. I would probably have not bought the laptop if I had known I was going to carry it around a lot. The laptop comes with the usual software packages, windows XP home ed., MS Office applications, Windows Media player etc. There were not many extras... Read review

...for a long time that hasn't received the usual initiation to my family of computers - a hefty kick in the side followed by much shouting and swearing (Hey, they seem to work after that; even a Packard Bell!) The system has only crashed once, but that was due to the shat software that it came with. Yep, good old Windows does it again! Setting the machine up in the first place is also nice and easy, with all the plugs colour-coded, clearly showing what goes where - ideal for a novice. Another good aspect of HP is you don't have to sell a kidney to be able to afford one. They are affordable to anyone willing to pay for a machine with a decent spec. I would highly recommend HP machines to anyone: Let's hope they can teach Compaq a thing or two!... Read review

...I'd always built my own computers in the past so when it was time for an upgrade I started looking around for more parts. I tended to stay clear of pre made up computers as there were always bits in them that were either A- not good enough or B- I wouldnt need at all. Besides, mosts companies used to fill them so full of thier own junky software it slowed them down! So when hubby suggested a compaq I was a bit dubious. A couple of weeks later he bought me a second hand Evo D500. I looked at the Specs and it was way better than my old box of bones. 512 of ram , a nice p4 1.6 chip 20gig hard drive and a cd rom.... nice The first thing I did was strip it of its case- (i love taking things apart) to find out how easy it would be to add my essential bits and bobs.
