HP Pavilion DV6625em - high spec, shiny; questionable quality?

Advantages: Nice to use; wonderful screen and features
Disadvantages: Appalling customer service; cracks on lid; poor A/C adaptor reliability

...I purchased my HP Pavilion Laptop (model number dv6625em) in January 2008 after my previous laptop finally stopped working (and was beyond repair after 4 years of use and multiple failing components). I did a lot of research in order to find the best laptop at a reasonable price (I had £500), because I have heard lots of horror stories about unreliable laptops, or ones that are unpleasant to use. I chose the HP dv6625em because it matched my requirements and was available from John Lewis. They have a good name as a retailer and provided a free 2-year guarantee, which seemed sensible. I do not have a branch of John Lewis nearby, so I ordered it online. I?m going to write mainly in the past tense, just as a style of writing. I do still own the laptop but I?m not currently using it, as I will explain later. The laptop specifications are...

HP Pavilion dv5

Advantages: Good quality laptop, great appearance
Disadvantages: Games are a no-no.

...A well designed, high quality affordable laptop, the HP pavilion dv5 doesn't fail to please in looks, performance or price. In terms of look and design, flashy is a good word for it. It has a glossy black case which shines in the light, then you open it. The keyboard-surround is split horizontally: the bottom half is very light silver with a white check pattern, and the upper half perforated silver plastic. Around the edge of the laptop, there is a chrome-effect strip which sparkles and shimmers. Even the mouse pad has a finish that is so reflective you can see your face in it. This is the 'bling-bling' of the laptop world. It also feels pretty solid, I don't think you would be able to break it easily and I have faith in it's durability and robustness. It is also quite light, weighing 2.65kg, not bad for a laptop it's size. Ok...

Hp DV9030ea media entertainment system - Excellent but overheats

Advantages: Powerfull, stylish, many featured, Large display with built in camera and full Keyboard.
Disadvantages: Overheating, noisy fan and short battery life. It's large and Heavy.

...The laptop is a powerfull laptop with a 1.8x2 ghz processor and Nvidea Go 7600 256mb graphics card and looks very stylish but has a terrible overheating problem which you can feel if you have it balanced on your legs; even with space for the fan your always jiggleing it about wondering if it has enough air (The fan is quite noisy). It has a large 17inch display, bluetooth and built in camera and touchpad. Full sized keyboard. Touch panel buttons for media centre and quickplay. 4 USB ports, express card slot with tv aereal I like it a lot but it burns out once a year. The graphics card is fixed to the motherboard so when it goes you have to replace the motherboard too. HP did give me a great fast service on the extended warrantly on this problem (see the website under dv9030ea) but the problem is the pain of having to keep replacing...

HP Pavilion DV2130ea made for everything!!!

Advantages: remote control, in-built camera, HP imprint finish, 120GB, Core Duo processor
Disadvantages: didn't find any jet.

...your pavilion series dv2100 it looks like it's full of presents. Besides genuine Windows XP Media Center it has all the software you will need to use all the features of this laptop. Microsoft Works (preparing documents), Sonic soft (burning and copying CD's & DVD's), Adobe reader (reading digital books), HP Photosmart Premier (organizing & editing photos), Cyberlink DVD (watching DVD movies), QuickPlay Direct (specially dedicated autoplay tool), Norton Antivirus 2006 (protection from internet threads - although license is only for 60 days), Help & Support (specially designed support for HP laptops). Overall I was really impressed by this laptop. I've done a lot of researching before I decided to buy it. I would say it was the best configuration and performance for the price I paid. If you're into new things and want to do...

The Very Sexy HP Pavilion

Advantages: Remote control, touch controls and an integrated 1.3 megapixels web cam
Disadvantages: The battery life and the Windows Vista operating system

...I recently accquired the HP Pavilion dv6331eu in an exchange with John Lewis for my old laptop, which had broken down. I am currently writing this review using my HP Pavilion and I must say so far so good. I have taken a personal shine to this laptop immediately and is a vast improvement from my last laptop, which was not very old at all. This laptop has been expertly designed and finished to have an extremely pleasing cosmetic look and style even before the lid is opened. With its black exterior, polished black lid and screen mount and the silver keyboard surround it looks very classy, elegant and expensive. The presentation is complimented with the touch controls for sound and quickplay to emphasise the top of the range essence that it beams. The final cosmetic feature of this laptop is the handy slim remote control. I personally...

HP DV9655EA, The Modern Life

Advantages: Everything, AMD Dual Core, Graphics, Looks, Performance, Specs
Disadvantages: None

...The HP DV9655ea. As a small business owner (I.T) I have to have a Laptop. It's as simple as that. My old laptop was a Toshiba Equium M70 on XP. Being in I.T meant that I had to have the latest OS from Microsoft in order to help clients when they need help with Vista. Usually when somebody asks me to find them a laptop for their needs, I can do it swiftly, effectively and find them their perfect laptop. This was not to be the case with me, I sat there for hours and hours going through supplier products. The main 3 I whittled myself down to where Toshiba, HP and Acer. I already had a Toshiba and to be honest, I really thought the speakers on their new version looked naff. Acer, a pretty budget make and often need repair. After going through specs after specs, I chose this laptop, Down to the build quality, reliability...

DV6552 Laptop - Great Features

Advantages: Good speakers, good sound, overall reliability, many extra features, good value for money
Disadvantages: Battery life, quite heavy

...I have now owned by dv6552 laptop for 18 months. As a university student, I use it non-stop - for writing notes, browsing the web, listening to music, uploading photos etc. It has lasted really well, and despite the inevitable technological developments always going on, still seems up to date compared to newer models on the market. I love the look and feel of this laptop; it is really sleek and a lot better looking than other laptops available. It is easy to use and of good quality. The 15.4" screen is really good, and colours look great on it; fantastic for watching videos or viewing photos. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers are also really good; I have not needed to buy any others, and regularly play all my music through my laptop. The volume also goes quite loud, which is useful. My laptop has been quite robust and durable...

HP Pavillion DV 6355

Advantages: Remote, Bright and Sharp Screen, Lightweight, Large Hardrive
Disadvantages: 1GB Ram, Only 3 USB Ports, Webcam Incompatability with Vista

...HP's piano lacquer Pavilion design with subtle wave pattern, provides the laptop with a nice appearance and the silver keyboard deck looks sharp and sleek. The glossy black exterior however, is a fingerprint magnet, but HP provide a cleaning cloth to compensate for this. The only downside is that the mouse buttons are soft and squishy, not giving a firm 'click'. The 15.4-inch glossy widescreen is of the new, brighter variety, with better colour reproduction. The screen's 1280 x 800 pixel resolution makes for comfortable viewing on an LCD this size, however higher resolution would be preferred. Above the screen you'll find an integrated webcam, which at 640 x 480 pixels has a lower resolution than other models however does not work with Vista and HP have acknowledged this!!! A little downside with the lid is the lack of latch, meaning...

A top-quality machine from HP

Advantages: Looks brilliant, huge screen, very powerful
Disadvantages: Size and weight (only to be expected), short battery time

...This is the first computer that I have bought just for myself - in the past I have always shared other people's or used their old ones. I therefore spent a long time looking at many different laptops before deciding on the dv9340. I didn't really need it to be very portable (luckily!), as it is mainly being used at my desk at home, but I wanted to have the capability to take it with me if necessary. I have now had this computer for about a month and a half, so have had time to get a good feel of what it is like. I have arranged my review into several different sections, and if you would like more details on an section or think there is an area that I have missed out, please leave a comment and I will update the view with some more information. First Impressions: When I first opened the box, the most striking thing about this...
