One thing that is compromised though is the portability, entertainment laptops are made to keep at home and not really to carry about with you all the time, so whilst the specification may look good, don?t expect one of these to be very portable. The Pavilion dv9820ea combines two colours, silver and black in order to make it look very up to date and futuristic even. It appears nice and rounded, and its shell makes the laptop feel very stable and robust. Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: The heatsink and fan

...as the user can install these devices much more faster. The Graphics Card is fairly standard, it would not be the greatest performer in the gaming entertainment category. Though as a good budget manufacturers Graphics Card it certainly does handle itself well when playing games. For people that like upgrading the motherboard can not be used to upgrade Graphics Cards. So in effect upgrading this computer is not going to happen. 80 giga byte harddrive is again factory standard, though quite low in terms of the latest computer desktops available on the market these days. Though again upgrading this aspect is not a problem as external Hard Drives with much bigger capacity can be used here. The office packages contained included Microsoft Works, which I am sure few people use. The Office suite must be purchased seperately...

...A well designed, high quality affordable laptop, the HP pavilion dv5 doesn't fail to please in looks, performance or price. In terms of look and design, flashy is a good word for it. It has a glossy black case which shines in the light, then you open it. The keyboard-surround is split horizontally: the bottom half is very light silver with a white check pattern, and the upper half perforated silver plastic. Around the edge of the laptop, there is a chrome-effect strip which sparkles and shimmers. Even the mouse pad has a finish that is so reflective you can see your face in it. This is the 'bling-bling' of the laptop world. It also feels pretty solid, I don't think you would be able to break it easily and I have faith in it's durability and robustness. It is also quite light, weighing 2.65kg, not bad for a laptop it's size. Ok...

...I purchased my HP Pavilion Laptop (model number dv6625em) in January 2008 after my previous laptop finally stopped working (and was beyond repair after 4 years of use and multiple failing components). I did a lot of research in order to find the best laptop at a reasonable price (I had £500), because I have heard lots of horror stories about unreliable laptops, or ones that are unpleasant to use. I chose the HP dv6625em because it matched my requirements and was available from John Lewis. They have a good name as a retailer and provided a free 2-year guarantee, which seemed sensible. My essential travelling companion -my hp pavilion 2000x laptop

Advantages: Small and powerful , tablet form and touch screen, speedy, two batteries

I feel it was quite expensive compared to what is available now; I think I paid about £600 from Staples for the laptop and three year warranty. It is not exactly a net book but it is a small laptop. The screen size is 12.5? diagonally and the keyboard is a decent size with a laptop type mouse pad in the middle front. I have weighed this (very important when travelling) and it weighs just under 2kg with one battery and just over that with the larger battery. Disadvantages: only 2 hour battery life

Takes a while to get rid of all the freebie/trial software if you don't want it, and lacks the comfort of the restore discs, though there is the option to make your own, the restore function works off a partitioned drive, so get onto that backup job asap. GFX are not top of the range but having said that, it copes with most games except the most up to date stuff. Nice crisp picture on the screen, although light reflection off the glossy surface can be distracting. Wireless aerial is good, picks up signals as easily as the Belkin external aerial I tested out on it. Not tried the LAN connection and there's always the good old 56k modem. Card reader and firewire port are useful as are the little touches such as the wireless and mouse pad switches. Nice to see an entertainment device fitted with HDMI as...

Core processer giving it the higher clock speed needed by HTPC?s. The higher clock speed allows programs like Photoshop and I-Tunes to run correctly without lag and generally giving it a media heart. Hp DV9030ea media entertainment system - Excellent but overheats

Advantages: Powerfull, stylish, many featured, Large display with built in camera and full Keyboard.
Disadvantages: Overheating, noisy fan and short battery life. It's large and Heavy.

...The laptop is a powerfull laptop with a 1.8x2 ghz processor and Nvidea Go 7600 256mb graphics card and looks very stylish but has a terrible overheating problem which you can feel if you have it balanced on your legs; even with space for the fan your always jiggleing it about wondering if it has enough air (The fan is quite noisy). It has a large 17inch display, bluetooth and built in camera and touchpad. Full sized keyboard. Touch panel buttons for media centre and quickplay. 4 USB ports, express card slot with tv aereal I like it a lot but it burns out once a year. The graphics card is fixed to the motherboard so when it goes you have to replace the motherboard too. HP did give me a great fast service on the extended warrantly on this problem (see the website under dv9030ea) but the problem is the pain of having to keep replacing...

...Well the Acer packed in and with the warranty the store gave us credit (apparently the Acer that we had had become obselete and there was none in stock). So with the £400 or so store credit my mother wisely (and under her own guidance as far as I know) picked the HP Pavilion DV6000 (as far as I'm aware theirs no difference between this and the T model though if there is, I'm sorry). Quite why My mother (darling mother of mine) decided to ever get the pile of fecial matter that Acer claimed was a laptop I was never quite to sure, as everything in it came to peices, the keys flew off, the screen was...well dead, the AV charge wire was..erm..well dead too. Why couldn't she have gone after a real solid, well worked peice of kit like this first time round Im not sure. So HP's...what do I think of them? Well I'd basically take a bricky out...
