HP Touchsmart TX2 Multitouch and Windows 7 Ready Tablet PC

Advantages: Great support for Windows 7 and Multitouch functionality.
Disadvantages: A little pricey in comparrison to standard machines.

...As a developer interested in writing multi touch applications for Windows using Windows Presenetation Foundation and Silverlight I was keen to explore the touch capabilities of this laptop which I boiught shortly after its' release. At first the multitouch support was poor, (and was even worse under early beta versions of Windows 7). However, the drivers have improved beyond measure and I now run the machine under Windows 7 (64bit release candidate) and use it as my primary development platform for both Silverlight (2/3) and WPF development. ...Having read the review of this HP TouchSmart IQ770 I was doubting whether or not to buy it. However I am very glad that I did, I absolutely love it This PC has a lot going for it, it is very stylish and modern looking, excellent 19" TFT screen which can be moved up and down to suit most peoples height. The keyboard can be slotted just under the pc into its own niche which, if you need it, gives plenty of space on your desk. The keyboard and mouse are both wireless and you have to configure them to pc when you first set up. I must admit the keyboard can be a bit tempremental in that it will often not type the key you hit, or will type it twice, but must also that as the keyboard is quite small, it is sometimes down to me as I hit the wrong key. I also feel that the keyboard needs to "warm up" before it will start to behave...

...well, this device if it had a metal case would be very efficient at cooking your breakfast not just its own hard drive. although i must admit that hp were kind enough to replace its hard disk drive twice in less than a month. 5 stars for that HP! but really in my own personal opinion this machine is heavily overpriced considering its performance. although it does look nice its comes with windows vista home premium installed which makes light work of this pc's lack of resources. and not forgetting the temperature issue, i have at this very moment checked the temperates and would like to say that under a very light load, (ie, only running mozilla firefox and zonealarm security suite and windows obviously) This pc will sit quite comfortably at a CPU temperature of 64*c and a GPU temp 54*c. personally i wouldn't expect to see this high...

My conclusion is that I find that this is a good value for money computer and one that I find that I will have no immediate need to replace for a long time. ...I have been a fan of the Ipaq since the days of the old Compaq 3600 (way back in the summer of 99!). Since then I have had the Ipaq 5500 (the finger print reader) and now onto my third the new HX4700 (the one with the track pad!). Being familiar with the Ipaq's of old, the first thing I noticed when I unpacked the box was how thin the new Ipaq was, very thin, when compared to my old 5500. The looks though may not be to everyone's tastes, but it does the job. I have noticed though that HP seem to be getting more and more stingy on the "included" accessories. No more slip on case, spare pens nothing! With the 4700 all you get is the one stylus, a docking cradle and a plastic flap/cover for the screen. Hmmmm not looking too good so far then. The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 is now reasnobly cheap for a PDA and has exellent programs for work purposes like pocket word and exel plus many more and others wich can be brought separately. The graphics are outstanding with just about no faults. This is backed up by a processor speed of 400Mhz wich is fast compared to others on the market, but isnt fast enough to download music files or movies from the internet. this brings me on to my next point, the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 can conect to the internet via the normal method, dial up/ broad band or by certain mobile phones, im afraid i dont know how this works...
