A great workstation
Review of HP Workstation xw4600 - Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 GHz by
davisha
Advantages: Great Build Quality
Disadvantages: none
...Pretty good machine - we use it for graphics work and it handles everything well. Plenty of expansion space for additional drives. quality build with excellent case. Hard to fault it really. we added a high end graphic card ( at £350) and it became a dream machine. Renders video and Adobe Dreanweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator with ease. My colleague swears by it and not at it. Wish I could say the same about my Dell laptop.
There are some other good workstations out there but I would stick with HP. The workstation quality that was so apparent with the Compaq brand has not disappeared with the HP takeover. This machine will run and run - expect no less that 3 years usable life from this. When it eventually does give out don't throw away the case. It's almost worth the purchase price itself:o)...

Compaq now HP supported
Review of Compaq Professional AP200 - PIII 500 MHz by
Bill-S
Advantages: Easy access, still enough power!
Disadvantages: Old cases are large, heavy, limited CPU speed
...I bought these desktop from The boxshop in MN, I have a hobby of giving old used PCs a new lease on life and I found the 1 star review sadly lacking in computer knowledge. The PC is old and is far from cutting edge now, and at the time, the mobo dates back to 1998 so expecting 2007 performance is not what one should be hoping for with this Workstation. Compared to Compaq's current parent company; HP, their dual processor Workstations (Kayak) I also bought used... Those are more built around Pentium II support with Intel North and Southbridge were recently heralded by non other then Maximum PC in it's documenting the evolution of Computer technology, and it was nice to know I had the pleasure of using some of the landmark tech. I had an Apple ][ only for many years but fell out of favor with the Mac becoming the only Apple product...

HP DV6000 - Great value for money!
Review of HP Pavilion dv6000t by
oxonian00
Advantages: Sleek, solid performance all-round.
Disadvantages: Slightly short battery life.
...I really like this laptop and would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget notebook to give them access to the Internet, decent games and a workstation. I picked up the DV6000 in the UK for around the 400-pound mark and it has served me well as a desktop replacement while working abroad.
It looks good and feels good with a tactile silky texture, has a 15.4 inch high-resolution screen that is easy on the eyes and has decent in-built speakers which I found fine for gaming.
It has good specs for a notebook, which can handle even fairly demanding modern games (it has an Nvidia GeForce Go 7500). By way of example, I played Neverwinter Nights 2 on the DV6000; whilst I did have to turn most of the graphic settings right down, the game ran fine and was fully playable (and Neverwinter Nights 2 is known as a fairly demanding game...

Precision 350 Workstation
Review of Dell Precision Series by
Rookgun
Advantages: Quality build, quietness, guarantee.
Disadvantages: Cost
...not to write the appropriate drivers. W2000 is not offered by Dell on anything less than a workstation, so to some extent my hand was forced there.
There was a minor hassle over payment, initially refused by my bank (I was told by a Dell employee) because the sum was 'out of character' compared to my usual buying habits (excuse me? I wonder how many people shell out two grand every week on a computer), but that was quickly cleared away and the Dell was built and arrived within a week of that phone call.
So what is it like? Brilliant. OK, a lot of folding paper, but worth every penny. There has, for example, been a lot of fuss in the PC press recently about noisy machines, and even in my homebuilt systems I have had to swap out fans to try to minimise the incessant whining. It gets wearing. I had no idea what the Dell would be like...

Whos your PC daddy?
Review of HP Workstation xw9300 - Opteron 250 2.4 GHz by
BloodySpike
Advantages: very fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Bit expensive!
...it on trade price of £2,050 but you can pay up to nearly £3,000 for it. See what i mean by a bit expensive. Other then the price this is a good work station
So to sum up, this is a very fast and so far reliable Workstation, but not one for family use, just for business use Im affraid, unless you have a couble of grand lying around. Ad far as family PC goes you could get a really fast and top of the range one for less then a grand. I infact build my own at home, which cost less then £400.
So I recommend this for business's only....

A GREAT TOOL FOR BUSINESS
Review of HP Compaq Mobile Workstation nw9440 - Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33 GHz - 17" TFT by
johnphilip
Advantages: Very fast, reliable, does the job it's made for
Disadvantages: Outer casing on the TFT panel could be stronger.
...at the business market, and to the end it does perform rather well. The combination of the very fast 2.33Ghz Core two Duo processor and the 2Gb of RAM installed as standard makes this a very amicable work tool.
For every day MS Office applications the machine performs very well and remains stable. I tend to have several office and other business applications open at the same time, including Autocad.
To date no matter what demands I place on the machine, it copes extremely well with no signs of lagging or worse freezing.
Display....
The 17" TFT panel is very clear and a pleasure to work with. I have used laptops in the past where the display has a somewhat washed out appearance. The HP display in contrast remains nice and bright and produces a very sharp image.
A big benefit I have noticed with the display compared to my old laptop...

One Touch was easy peasy
Review of HP SureStore DAT 40e 20 GB 40 GB by
rene.millman
Advantages: Good points. Obscenely easy way to rebuild a corrupted server.
Disadvantages: Bad points. Limited hardware and software support. Make sure your operating system can read all partitions.
...Those of us who have had to spend a late Friday afternoon rebuilding a really important server, longing to get to the pub, will no doubt be yearning for something where we can just press one button and get the machine back up and running and doing all the things it was supposed to do before it went base over apex.
Until recently disaster recovery has been a lengthy, time-consuming process of locating operating system (OS) disks, application disks, backup tapes, and configuration details.
The new Hewlett Packard SureStore DAT40e could be an answer to those prayers, for its much-touted industry first, one-button disaster recovery (OBDR), a clever system which fools your server into thinking the tape back up drive is really a bootable CD-ROM drive.
Booting from a tape drive is not new. In fact, most dedicated UNIX workstations...

HP OFFICE JET. ONE OF THE BEST MACHINES.
Review of Hewlett-Packard 7140XI Officejet by
Hakam62
Advantages: ALL IN ONE
Disadvantages: NONE
.... The software installation was quite easy, barring a bad ethernet cable (our fault) and the inability of the 7140xi software to work with a computer with an HP 7550 connected to it. We had some hope of retaining that configuration, but again, not a significant issue, since we were supposed to be replacing that printer. The software identifies the network printer and continues. All workstations came up quickly with no problems. Overall, scanning, faxing, copying and printing work well from both the console and the control panel on the unit. The scanning function is interesting since it allows you to identify your target computer for the scan. This does seem to get hung up occasionally, but still not sure. Maybe I'll try a support call, but it has been nice not needing one to date. The software control from a user's perspective works well. We would...
