...I read a couple of these, and now it's my turn to give it a go.
1)What is the first interesting thing you see when you look around the room?
It's my 17 year old son, Ray, exhausted after a day of school and too many late nights at work. He's lying facedown on his bed, hugging his body pillow and breathing gently--fast asleep.
2)What can you hear at the moment?
The voices of my three younger daughters, asking and answering questions, advising each other what to do, about a spray can of something, in the dining room; my six-year-old son Randy's voice outside, talking to neighbors; Ray's breathing as mentioned before.
3) What is on your computer desk?

Still Holding It's Own
Advantages: Reliable, looks stoosh, lasted over 4 years of daily use

...WHAT'S THIS THEN?
It's a computer. Not the keyboard or mouse or monitor, just the boring box thing that you press "on" and, like the Post Office, it's the small thing that makes the big things happen. I bought this in March 2000 for a whopping £999. I say "whopping" because when you look at the specifications of the machine, you'll realise that that sort of money is a lot to pay for a machine of this limited capability. Howver, in my defence, this was possibly the most highest, affordable spec available back then. You know how whooshy the world of PCs are. I'll spend the same today and it'll be obselete by 2008.

Advantages: Fast, Fast, FAST!!! (Oh yeah... and easy to set up and use, too.)

...Hewlett-Packard (HP) Pavilion 4550Z eighteen months ago. During that period, I read countless computer reviews, compared notes, and narrowed my list of prospective purchases down to two brand names: Compaq and HP. Having owned both manufacturers’ products before, I was always completely satisfied with them.
For the past few weeks, my wife has been encouraging me to replace my HP desktop system with a notebook computer. So, last weekend, right before that massive nor’easter blew through Maine and lambasted us with 16 inches of snow, I marched into our local Staples store, happily clutching the $1,500 that I’d saved up, steadfastly intent on walking out with a shiny new notebook computer.
Any notion of buying a notebook was quickly dispelled by a close examination of what I could get for my money. "Bang-for the buck...
