MDA Vario

Advantages: Excellent grapics and business management capabilities
Disadvantages: Large and cumbersome. Missing the basics that come with most new phones.

...The T-Mobile Vario is in effect a smart phone incorporating a pocket PC with some interesting features. It was probably designed to try to counter the stronghold that the Blackberry had on the UK marketplace as a business machine capable of running an appointment diary, accessing the internet, sending and receiving emails and of course being used as a mobile telephone amongst a range of other features. As a working machine the Vario is very good at what it does. With a sliding keyboard it is possible to type relatively quickly and accurately and also has a number of touch screen features with excellent graphics. The touch screen also incorporates a keyboard or it can be scribbled on with the stylus which has a number of ways of recognising the graphics and words written onto the screen. As a phone it is practical, albeit...

MDA Vario II

Advantages: Big Screen, Easy to Use
Disadvantages: Battery life

...-Basics- To look at the MDA Vario II you have a very stylish and sleek mobile phone. Looking at my phone you have a large screen (2½? by 2?) in full clear colour with only minimal buttons underneath it, give it a gentle push to the side a full QWERTY keyboard is revealed with easy to use buttons whilst on the back you have a 2 mega pixel camera with a flash and mirror for self portraits. On the edges the phone has various short-cut buttons, a limitless scroll wheel, a memory card slot (microSD) and a stylus holder. Within the phone you have the basic platform of Windows Mobile 5, and within this you get a large amount of features including; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, MSN messenger, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, an organiser, and many more. All of these are easy to use and can either be used by...

Review of T-Mobile MDA Vario II

T-Mobile MDA Vario II

Advantages: All round PDA, compact
Disadvantages: Low battery Life for heavy use.

...My girlfriend recently upgraded her contract with T-Mobile, and in the process chose the MDA Vario II. I'm going to get one as soon as my current contract expires. Its that good. Whilst being larger than a normal phone its fairly compact for a PDA, which, in my opinion is a good thing. The screen has a good resolution, is bright, and I've never had any difficulty in seeing/reading anything from it. It comes with a large range of features on it - such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, MSN, a calculator, calender, and laods more. In addition to this you can add programs yourself. All you need to do is search the web for the "MIDlets" you want, and then either download them directly to you phone, or, if you want to download them to your PC, and then transfer them across to your phone to install them. With T-Mobile it is...

Htc TyTN II

Advantages: Faster, incorparated gps
Disadvantages: size a little bulky

...HTC TyTnII is a value for money phone. It has a special function of the qwerty keyboard, which slides underside of the phone. Allthough its a little bulky, it provides with quite good features. The HTC home plugin has been incorporated in the phone on the today screen. The phone has a special function of 3g, Video conferencing, which is absent in the TyTn. The qwerty keyboard provides easiness in typing word documents and notes. The email in this phone has been at par to the blackberrys. The Incorporated GPS in this phone is pretty accurate. The GPS can also be used on Livemaps. The Traffic Tv on this phone, lets user view realtime traffic flow in specific areas. The newly incorparated OS6 in this phone is pretty faster than regular WM6 os on any other wm powered device....

HTC TYTN II what a phone or is it a laptop!

Advantages: Great features, Good connectivity
Disadvantages: Can be labelled as big(size) for a phone!

...I have just got hold of one of these off the internet for about £130 its overall an excellent device that will do everything a laptop does. It offers great connectivity it has on-board GPS, IRDA, Bluetooth, 3g and WiFi. The GPS is excellent very handy addition it is alos not restricted so you can install your own prefered software such as Tomtom, garmin etc. The Windows Mobile 6 OS that mine runs is extreamly user friendly very quick and an overall plesure to use and work with well done microsoft! The mobiles general specifications and features are: Windows Mobile 6 Tilted 2.8" 240*320 QVGA touch screen Sliding QWERTY keyboard built-in GPS 3 mega-pixel auto focus camera VGA camera for 3G/UMTS video-calling HTC Home menu screen Tri-band UMTS with Quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps HSUPA...

Review of HTC TyTN II

HTC TyTN II best phone in the world

Advantages: Does everything in an ideal form factor
Disadvantages: Battery won't last 2 days without a re-charge.

.... For example, this is also called the MDA Vario III by t-mobile. That unit has a smooth, shiny back. That makes it slide around on a table. The HTC unit has a slightly rubberised back, which doesn't slide and is easier to hold. Also, synchronisation with WM6 and ActiveSync 4.5 is awkward and takes a lot of coaxing. Also, don't use the provided version of Sprite Backup, it'll duplicate files on your machine and if you have 6000-odd PIM items, you'll get a 30 Mb pim.vol file that when duplicated will grind the machine to a halt. Use version 6, available direct from Spite, and you'll be fine. Took me about a week to set the thing up, but once done, it's great....

Review of HTC TyTN II

A Vario Good Phone!

Advantages: Features, Design, QWERTY keypad, Google Maps, Internet Usage, Build Quality Etc etc
Disadvantages: Cost, Headphones, Rebranded Colour Scheme

...I have been due for upgrade since September 2008, but only one phone had caught my eye; this was the HTC Touch Pro. I saw it back in June 2008 and noticed that it would be released in August, so I started searching to see if T Mobile would be taking it onto their network as that could work out perfectly timed for my upgrade if they did. I knew they usually rebranded HTC phones as T Mobile phones so I was hoping that they would do the same for this. I was pleased to find that T Mobile had taken on this phone and it would be rebranded as a Vario IV, to replace the (now) dated Vario III. I couldn't find any information regarding the date for this phone so I rang up head office and spoke to somebody in the customer service directors' office who said it would be released at the beginning of October; not quite as perfect for me as such...

Review of T-Mobile MDA Vario IV

T-Mobile MDA Vario II

Advantages: Nice size/weight, bright screen, very connctable
Disadvantages: Short, light stylus

...I've had my Vario II (also known as HTC Hermes, HTC TyTn, Orange SPV M3100 among others) a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with it. It's currently running Windows Mobile 5 (which it comes with as standard), which handles all tasks fine. The screen is nice and bright and very easy to read, despite being smaller than a normal PDA. It's a nice size and makes my old Acer n10 seem big and bulky. Loads of connection options - IrDA, bluetooth, wifi, usb2, GPRS/3G mean you've got loads of was of using it. Being on T-Mobile it also comes with MSN Messenger (other networks remove it but you can get it back with an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6) which along with email, texts and mms mean it's easy to keep in contact. It runs Tomtom 6 nicely (although it needs a small patch available on the net) and gives you a Transflash/MicroSD slot...

Review of T-Mobile MDA Vario II

More HTC wow!

Advantages: Thin but big, 1GHz processor, runs Windows, loads of extra software.
Disadvantages: A little too sensitive, Not as many colours on screen as other phone

...Well I got this phone and wow...Its big the screen is big, the processor inside is even bigger. Its hard to explain the smoothness of the phone once it has started, however compared to my iPhone it is smooth and that is saying something. With Windows Mobile 6.5 as the operating system the amount of software and customisation available is really out of this world. The fact that the HTC HD2 is quite smart, ie when you pick up the phone to answer a call the ring volume goes down. With lots of little touchs like this it makes the user experiance quite outstanding. The fact that the 1ghz processor inside really makes the whole phone run so smoothly. Add the fact that Windows Mobile 6.5 has a huge back catalog of programs most of which work without the need to adjust any advanced features to make it work, sort of put the other...

Review - The HTC Hero

Advantages: Too many to list in this small space...
Disadvantages: A little sluggish

... The HTC Hero I test and review a lot of mobile phones, but in a mobile phone market dominated by Apple, Blackberry, Samsung and Nokia, I can't help but have a soft spot for HTC; I think it is a British thing, a love for the underdog? But as much as I admire HTC, I can't help but worry that in trying to take on competitors like the iPhone their new HTC Hero is punching above its weight. So I turned it on to find out? Appearance When I was told that I was finally going to get my hands on HTC's latest handset, I thought I'd better do a bit of research? but when saw the publicity pictures I feared the worst? It looked a lot like its predecessor the T-Mobile G1, with that Jimmy Hill like chin. This was a bad start for me; I love the design of all of HTC's handsets, except one? the T-Mobile G1, so I wasn't expecting...
