Visit the award winning Deep in Hull.
Advantages: Lots of different areas and displays. Informative
Disadvantages: Car parking fee
...The Deep opened in March 2002 amid a blaze of publicity and since then it has welcomed more than 3 million visitors and has won many awards as a visitor attraction. It is also an internationally important research facility and has become a symbol for the city of Hull.
The Deep is one of the deepest aquariums in the world, and for the city of Hull it has changed the skyline of the city. It has a lovely mix of aquaria, interactions for not only children but adults too, film footage and live demonstrations. As you walk through the Deep, you will notice that it takes you through the journey of the solar system and how they began and what this meant for the sea. It looks at colourful tropical reefs, the Antarctic, sandy seashores and the deep ocean trenches. It is a registered charity and is dedicated to conservation and education.

Surely it's about the fish?
Advantages: Good sharks, interesting building
Disadvantages: Too many videos and gimmicks, not enough fish, dark central tank
...I hadn't been to Hull for a long time and I wasn't expecting to be back again for a long time - it's not exactly the sort of place you pass on the way to anywhere else. So knowing that the one thing I really wanted to see was the new 'Submarium' (nonsense name, I thought) I battled the one way system and a temperamental sat nav system to find it.
Firstly, if you too are trying to get there with a Sat Nav system, it can be tricky. There's no road name given in the address. I plugged in Nelson Street which is apparently very close but once you see the brown tourism signs, ignore your Sat Nav and follow them. It's the kind of place you can see but, like a tantallus, you can't quite grab it.
First impressions - I'd love to say they were 'Wow! What an amazing looking building?' but in fact my first impressions were 'Gosh, is the weather...

Homely Hull
Advantages: Very friendly city. Well planned
Disadvantages: Rather isolated
...Hull in Humberside was my home for five years whilst I did my undergraduate and graduate studies. I found this somewhat unfashionable city to be a very homely, friendly, much under-rated city. It is an exceptionally well planned city and has a nice mix of ultra-modern,offices and commercial buildings with attractive, historic buildings. It is also a city with fine parks and outstanding shopping.
The maritime flavour of this historic port city has been enhanced with the construction of a magnificent marina. Then there is Queens'Gardens,a converted dock,in the city centre, which is a colourful, lovely, place for people to relax in. The city has a large number of lively pubs which ooze character and strangers always seem to be made welcome in this most welcoming of cities. The Old Town with streets such as "The Land of Green Ginger" is well worth...

A corally fish.
Advantages: cute, soft
Disadvantages: retired
...From an early age, my friends and I were addicted to collecting TY beanies. For those of you who do not know (where have you been?), TY Beanies are a collection of little teddies in all forms of animals and teddy bears. Once you start a collection they are quite addictive. You find you are always looking for new ones and cannot stop buying them - havoc for your wallet, heaven for your collection!
One of the Beanies is a fish, who goes by the name of Coral. Its such a beautiful name - I was obsessed with sea coral as a child so this is a delightful treat for me. Coral is very attractive to look at too. She is coated in a delightful mix of rainbow colours: blues, yellows, pinks. She reminds me of the Rainbow Fish book every child will have read at some point, something else we can relate to with this fish. She is not as pluffed up as...

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN THE HULL AREA?
Advantages: Clean and comfortable. Good Value For Money.
Disadvantages: Long Wet Walk From Check In to Lodge. View From Front Rooms
...WHY DID WE BOOK THE INNKEEPER'S LODGE - HULL?
In this instance it was a purely business decision. The previous night we had stayed in the Innkeeper's Lodge at Chester (North East), the Hull Lodge was ideally situated for my business appointment at Brough.
From previous experience we have found accommodation in Hull problematic, it is not a city exactly overflowing with a good choice of hotels and Bed and Breakfasts. We now use Innkeeper's Lodge's regularly in our travels and know that we can rely on the quality of the room and that the service offered is of a more than acceptable standard when compared to other lodge type hotels.
HOTEL DESCRIPTION / OUR PERCEPTION FROM HOTEL PUBLICITY
As with all of the Innkeeper's Lodges in which we have stayed, the Hull one is very well, and honestly, described, both in the new (2007...

No fish at the end of the line
Advantages: No longer smells of fish, even Warty Doris
Disadvantages: Sometimes smells of failure
...Hull doesn't get a good press. Not long ago, it topped a list of crap towns. The Audit Commission rates the council's performance as 'poor'. The city's schools regularly sit at the bottom of national league tables. And its people have been pronounced the fattest in the UK. So, when, in August 2005, a Channel 4 programme dubbed Hull the worst place to live in Britain, it all had such a weary predictability that residents barely batted an eyelid.
So is it all true? Is Hull the worst place in Britain? Well, yes and no. I've lived there for over 20 years. If it was really so awful, I wouldn't have stayed. But there's no doubt the city has suffered in that time, and not just because of me. Traditional industries began their decline long before my arrival. Fishing and its associated trades hardly feature in Hull's economy now...

Where dreams are made....and broken....Hull IVF Unit
Advantages: Wonderful, compassionate staff. Slightly above average success rates.
Disadvantages: Location. Lack of car parking.
...Having been through infertility, & subsequently IVF myself, I have read many other accounts relating to the journey of achieving something that most couples take for granted, but what at times can seem like the impossible ? a baby. I have gained so much insight from other people & have drawn strength from their stories, so I thought I would share mine & hopefully pass on some hope to other couples in similar situations.
There are many IVF reviews on here, so I thought I would try & cover the hospital at which I myself received treatment (the Hull IVF unit). Since treatment can vary from hospital to hospital, I hope this will be of use to couples planning treatment here. Firstly, a bit of background information to set the scene?
We began TTC (trying to conceive) back in September 2005. Although current guidelines state that...

Fab fish fingers!
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I love fish fingers, but I'm pretty fussy about what I eat, and whilst with many products I'm happy to just go with the cheapest brand available, fish fingers for me are always Birdseye.
Most cheap fish fingers tend to be made from the mysterious 'Minced White Fish' which has the texture of mashed up cardboard and tastes like licking a sweaty armpit. You're probably thinking I'm exaggerating there, after all, nobody makes a habit of licking armpits . Well, I did once while a little under the influence - and it was much nicer than a cheap fish finger!
Okay, so now we know why I fixate on Birdseye - I know when the pack tells me it's cod fish fingers, its nothing but cod . However, recently I saw they were now offering a salmon version - and I figured I should definitely try them, since they were on offer at a pound a pack .

Fish Fingers
Advantages: nutrtitious, tasty, versatile
Disadvantages: a bit pricey
...I do not usually buy fish fingers but wanted to get some for my son to try so I purchased a pack of Bird s Eye Omega 3. I paid £1.69 for the box which contains 10 fish fingers made with 100% fish fillet (Alaska Pollock). I choose these particular ones as I wanted to give Jake the best quality I could buy in a supermarket.
The Fish Fingers are really easy to cook, under the grill or in an oven for 12 ? 15 minutes, turning occasionally.
The first time I tried them with Jake, I just cooked him one and four for me. While I was waiting for his fish finger to cool I made myself a fish finger buttie. It did not take long after biting into the fish finger to figure out that the fingers are not actually made from a whole fish fillet, but rather from chopped up fillet shaped into fingers. This was actually exactly what I expected so I...

Fabulous Fish
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I love fish fingers - and must confess to being somewhat fussy about them. Whereas with many other items, I'm happy to buy the shops own economy version - fish fingers for me HAVE to be Birdseye.
This is mainly because many economy brands are made from the mysterious 'Minced White Fish', which tastes pretty disgusting, and leaves me concerned that I don't know exactly what's in the product.
Birdseye have been advertising a lot lately- and it's all positive - food frozen within the hour, no additives, preservatives, colorings or e-numbers- which means I can be guaranteed that I, and more importantly my daughter, are eating good quality food.
Birdseye fish fingers are made with 100 percent cod fillet - none of this random minced white fish business, and they come with two coating options - battered, or crumbed. While the crumbed...
